Don't look at his current kit. Don't look at any Volibear lore that existed prior to the release of Ornn.
Pick one or two things from his current kit that you think are iconic, and make a completely new champion from there.
Volibear can be one of the best champions in the game if you give him a Mordekaiser/Aatrox-level VGU based off his current lore.
PLEASE don't do this. None of the Volibear mains want a horror bear. We want our loving armored polar bear as close as possible to how he is right now.
This concept should be saved for another champion. It was also mentioned that the writer of Silence of Damned specifically wrote about a specific state of Volibear that doesn't reflect his state in current League of Legends. It shouldn't be interpreted as his permanent form or how he would appear in game. That writer also isn't involved in Voli's update afaik.
I also think posts like this are rather unempathic for the people that have played and loved Voli for years. You wouldn't want your main to be completely overhauled into something unrecognizable. Think about it.
I've gotta agree with Voli here. He should be more badass than he used to be, yes, and fearsome in the way that bears in general are fearsome. But having a cultish abomination bear isn't what people are looking for when they want Volibear to live up to his concept. His rework should help him better fulfill that fantasy of being a powerful bear god of storms and war.
However, I would definitely approve the abomination concept as a skin, perhaps in the Omen of the Dark universe. Or even Voidbringer.
Honestly? I think Volibear doesn't need anything more than a substantial round of numbers buffs and a few kit tweaks. Buff his base attack speed so he does on-hit synergy better, buff his move speed while charging towards enemy champions so he's less easily kited (or give him Ghost while the ability is active), give some of his Execute power to a scaling on-hit passive. I think all he needs is to just be more threatening when he manages to close in on you.
I agree with OP, The Volibear from silence of the dammed is more interesting and more thought out then just "armored thunder bear" that we currently have. A eldritch horror monster god is alot more interesting and has more room for design.
So voli is the first out of the four to get a vgu? Honestly i want horror bear. But i love the badass warrior god voli too. I’m at a crossroads.
Did he not make an appearance in a recent Udyr/Sejuani story? I believe he doesn’t quite look like the horror version present in Silence.
That shouldnt be volibear though. Volibear should be the thousand pierced bear. He should look like a bear thats been through countless battles and won but not like some eldritch horror creature. Eldritch monster Volibear was more of what he looks like from the point of view of those wishes to subjugate which of course means he has to be as intimidating as possible. But normally Volibear is a warrior who thrives in battle and should also be kind of a dick. Which is shown when he fucks with Ornn and tries to bully him into building weapons for him.
As for the kit I think volibear has to keep his flip and roaring and if possible his regeneration in some way. Perhaps they could modernize those skills and do something else instead of his bite and ult.
So i guess the point to my rambling is that Volibear shouldnt be a champion whose primary thematic is to instill fear but more of a god of battle whose body is coursing with power and relics of those who have tested him.
Edit: the biggest change I want them to do to volibear is perhaps change his name from volibear to Voli or just Voliber. Make it so his name isnt just “ HEY HES A BEAR AND HE HAS BEAR IN HIS NAME.”
