[Theory] Kog'Maw is a baby Baron Nashor

So I've done some a lot of digging and research into the Void and Kog'Maw because I'm honestly interested in all of that stuff, and I want to know more about where my cute little puppy that only sometimes eats people comes from.

#In game

There's a few similarities that you can notice in between Kog'Maw and Baron just by looking at them both side by side in the physical game itself. For this purpose I'm going to be using the updated Baron Nashor model, as that is the one I have the 3d model for, and it's the newest one so the more accurate of the two.

Visual aspects

So there are a few just purely visual things that, at a closer glance can be correlated in between Kog'Maw and Baron Nashor. These aren't just speculations based on fan-art, I went into the game files and got the physical 3d models of both Kog'Maw and Baron in order to try and spot any similarities. If you look at the color scheme of the two, they both look very similar in scheme alone. In analyzing each part of them both, I'm going to go from the top down, starting at the head and moving to the body.

I'll start with the head. The first thing I noticed was that both Kog'Maw and Baron have 4 tail like extrusions on the back of their heads. Baron's being aligned vertically, whilst Kog'Maw's are aligned horizontally. One difference from the two is how they use them. On Baron they seem to be just decorative, moving around slightly when Baron's shooting, but on Kog'Maw they move around a ton, even while he's idle. An explanation for this can be that, as Kog'Maw grows older he doesn't need his for the purpose of defending himself, so after not getting used and Kog'Maw growing longer these tail things spread out, becoming aligned vertically. The next thing is the eyes. Baron has a lot of eyes, while Kog'Maw only has two, there's evidence that shows there could be a third spot for more eyes that are growing next to the smaller of the two eyes on Kog'Maw. This could mean that as Kog'Maw grows more, he starts to gain more eyes. Baron's particles that he shoots out also resemble Kog'Maw's q, and the animation is similar as well.

Moving on to the body, It can be argued that Kog'Maw's belly looks a lot like the Baron Nashor's belly already. But I want to focus on the hands more. Kog'Maw has hands with two primitive claws on them. Baron on the other hand, has two mouths on his hands, with his hands being closer to his mouth than Kog'Maw's to his mouth. While this one is a little more sketchy than the previous claim, it is possible for that, over time, Kog'Maw's primitive claws evolved into actual mouths that he can use to chomp on things. Keep in mind we're talking about Baron Nashor. And the Baron Nashor in Summoners Rift isn't even the actual Baron Nashor! (More on that later). Also when Baron spawns you can see a definite tail section that has a form like Kog'Maw's. Baron also has shorter feet and more feet than Kog'Maw does. But not enough so to classify him fully as a worm, as during attacks he stays mostly above ground.

##Attacks

Baron has a TON of abilities, passives, debufs, and attacks. So what I'm going to do is go from Kog'Maw, and find Kog'Maw's attack in Baron's attacks / debufs, or find the upgraded version of it. If I can't find one I will try to give a reasonable explanation for why no such ability exists in Kog'Maw's grown up adult form. Note that some of these are really sketchy, but this is just to provide some fluff and some evidence before I get into the lore.

Let's start with Kog'Maw's Q, Caustic Spittle. It has a passive and an active. The passive is that with each level Kog'Maw gains permanent attack speed. This wouldn't be seen in Baron Nashor as there isn't a way to measure this since with each level Baron's attack speed is capped at .75. The active on Kog'Maw's Caustic Spittle is that he launches a corrosive projectile in a direction, dealing damage and reducing their armor and magic resistance. The reduction of armor and magic resistance is the main part of what makes this spell good. Baron also happens to have a passive, Voracious Corrosion, that also reduces the target's armor and magic resist, but instead of on an ability, Baron has it on every auto. It is possible that as Kog'Maw grows up, he eats so much that his basic attacks turn into his Q. After all, Baron is the most powerful creature in Runeterra.

Moving on to Kog'Maw's W, Bio-Arcane Barrage. This one is the only ability that I couldn't find a partner ability in Baron. A possible explanation for this might be that while Kog'Maw needs his W in order to deal damage from afar, Baron might not need it because again, the most powerful creature in all of Runeterra.

So Kog'Maw's E is Void Ooze. It's a linear AOE skillshot that applies a slow scaling up to 52% at max rank. Baron has two abilities that take the two sections of this ability, the slow and the AOE damage, and upgrades it. Baron's first ability is Acid Pool, in Acid pool he spits out 3 pools of acid, dealing damage and making an area that slows people walking into it. Sounds familiar? Baron's second ability is Acid Shot. In Acid Shot Baron shoots out an acid field that does damage in a linear AOE.

Finally Kog'Maw's R is Living Artillery. It's a snipe ability that can sorta be paralleled by Baron's Acid pool. But I've already used it in Kog'Maw's E. I'm just going to skip over the detailed analysis of why his R isn't in Baron's kit and move onto the fun part.

#Lore

So first off I want to go over Baron Nashor's origin story, and why multiple times earlier I've said stuff about how Baron is the most powerful creature in Runeterra. That's not just based off of in game. In "The Journal of Justice: Volume 1 Issue 13", this is said about Baron:

The many neutral monsters on the Fields of Justice are constructs inspired by real creatures from Runeterra. The Baron Nashor you see on the map is actually an incomplete facsimile of the true Baron Nashor, who is now the subject of myth and legend. The story goes that Baron Nashor was a ferocious worm that ruled the Serpentine River, which flows through Summoner’s Rift. He was such a fearsome and powerful beast that even the armies of Demacia and Noxus steered clear of the river, unwilling to chance an encounter with the Baron.

When Summoner’s Rift was constructed, the Baron vanished, leaving no conclusive evidence as to where he went or why he left in the first place. Obviously the rumor-mill has churned out many explanations, but all we know for sure is that the Senior Arcane Architect for the Summoner’s Rift arena was said to have crafted the version you see today from no more than a molted scale and interviews with those who had seen the beast and lived.

So from that we can conclude that the in game Baron is just a scaled down model of what the actual Baron is like. I'm going to use any and all parts of Baron's out of Summoner Rift's lore for this part. The Serpentine River which the Journal refers to is only mentioned one other time, and that is in Twisted Fate's lore. Although nothing about Baron is mentioned there. Further on it says that both the Demacian and Noxus armies were afraid of the actual Baron. Further enforcing the idea that the in game Baron isn't the actual Baron Nashor. It was stated during the LAN Q@A about Rek'sai that Baron is from the void (Link to it is here: http://forums.lan.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=83554&page=42#post554420). But at the end it says that Baron Nashor vanished.

It's generally known that Kog'Maw is just a baby that was summoned by Malzahar and is roaming the world eating everything in sight. (Ignoring the laws of physics too). But I want to focus on one of Kog'Maw's in game quotes. "Terror coming, Daddy coming". Just think about that for a second. No other champion that has been released has come even close to looking or acting like a grown up Kog'Maw. If Kog'maw was a baby Baron, this would mean that his Daddy is Baron Nashor. And in the previous paragraph remember what it said about how "When Summoner's Rift was constructed, the Baron vanished." It would make sense that Kog'Maw is referring to the fact that Baron hasn't arrived back at Runeterra yet, and that one day the true Baron will eventually return.

TL:DR Kog'Maw is a baby Baron Nashor

JoJ is kinda outdated and not necessarily canon I think...pretty sure I saw a Red post saying the current Baron is the real Baron and no longer just a re-imagining since SR is no longer part of the League.

People have wanted Kog'maws "father" forever, I doubt Riot even cares anymore. Same thing with Katarinas dad, hes never joining the league either. Or any of the other half mention characters from years ago :P

You kinda contradicted yourself. If the baron we know is just a construct made from the ideas given by the molted skin, then your visual and attack comparisons would be inaccurate in that you compared it to the "fake" baron rather than the real nashor.

Some points were good, but others were pretty sketchy as you said. My final conclusion is maybe.

Baron has more in common with Rek than he does with Kog, visually speaking. Both spit acid, though, so I'll give you that.

Arguably, given the way creatures are apparently birthed in the Void, I'm not sure if there strictly exists a baby anything.
