@Riot, Let's Talk Openly About Your Recent Story Releases, And How They've Been Received.

From what I have seen on the Story & Art boards, the highest upvoted threads are about problems with the Retconned lore that Riot is erasing, despite the fact that they cant seem to replace it fast enough, or at a high enough quality to replace the old lore.

@Riot, if you're going to to Retcon Runeterra's lore, you have to at least create it to be as cool and iconic as the old lore, or else it's just a downgrade.

Keep in mind that the Story & Art boards is a microcosm, one that at this point is much more welcoming to the critics than the endorsers. Strong, negative opinions are much more likely to propagate in this little echo-chamber. This board isn't the whole picture, and Riot has the best tools to evaluate how their content is received holistically.

Just because there's strong negative voices here doesn't reflect on an event's success as a whole, by any stretch of the imagination. They probably value how their stuff is received here, but it's still a very small subgroup, taken into consideration proportionately. I love Riot's new stuff, but this board isn't a very attractive platform for someone like me because of the strongly opinionated haters that has already claimed it. Please don't assume the loud critics here are representative of any larger group or general opinion.

The above is related to the quality of content; the slow progress is just an unfortunate reality of the situation that they've obviously tried to fix as quickly as they could, which turned out to still take frustratingly long. Stuff like that just happens, though.

Every single thing Riot has done with the lore since around about the end of season 1 has been crap. EVERY single thing. They say they scrapped the old lore to make room for new stuff- only they haven't produced any new stuff worth mentioning. They make big, attention-grabbing "events" based around new champ releases where they retcon a whole bunch of champions into different regions such as the 'Freljord event' when they released Lissandra, the 'Shadow Isles event' when they released Thresh (or was it Elise? I can't even remember any more, which is the entire point) and the 'Shurima event' when they released Azir- only for these "events" to be literal nonevents. Not only have they failed to do ANYTHING meaningful whatsoever with LoL's story, they've made a concerted effort to erase what good thing they had done in the past.

Hey Riot? Let me spell it out for you. Not even every single thing you've done with LoL's narrative put together over the last 3 or so years manages to be even half as good as the Journal of Justice was. We've told you over and over again what we wanted from LoL, narratively speaking, and every time you've responded "no you don't, THIS is what you want" and given us something else we don't give a shit about. How can you manage to continually get everything so wrong so many times? Now here comes the 'Bilgewater event', another pointless load of nothing that means nothing, adds up to nothing and will have absolutely NO impact on the game's narrative beyond more pointless champion lore retcons that will accompish nothing more than pissing fans of the exiting lore off.

The ones who hate the retcon are more likely to go to the boards and complain about it than the ones who like or are indifferent to the retcon. Not to mention that the hate threads drive the ones who don't hate the retcon away,simply because its annoying to the non-haters.

Add to that,that they simply didn't add much lore after the retcon and there isn't much reason why someone would actually post something positive about the retcon,because they haven't even started to reestablish some things.

This actually part of my point. After retconning most of the cool events out of Runeterra, there was nothing ready to immediately replace them.

Heck, it's been almost a year and Lore still has yet to be re-established.

Heck, Riot's still stumped by the supposed "tech issue" preventing them from displaying its complete champion lore.

It just feels like Riot decided to retcon things without any kind of plan on how to do it in a smooth and player friendly way.

It still bugs me to think of the cool champion's that have had their lore butchered into near non-existence, leaving us to hope that Riot will at least get their lore back to where they used to be soon*TM.

I agree with you completely. The Lore boards have become so acidic for those that are at least level headed about the new lore, which means you are left with the acidic people on them....not a good outcome I must say.

I gotta agree here, the stuff Riot is releasing through the Bilgwater event is pretty good.

To be fair though, Graves and TF never seemed to be tied to this Bilgewater in any way, and I'm a bit confused on why Misfortune and Gangplank aren't involved at all in this event yet.
