Summoners are a part of Runeterra. Riot Games has established that.
Don't go back on your game's history, go forward.
Riot, if the Institute of War is restricting your storytelling ability, write it out. Don't pretend it never existed.
Respect Runeterra's history.
Respect the Institute of War.
Respect the League of Legends.
And most of all, please, respect Summoners.
Technically with this new lore, Lee Sin needs a big lore change, because as it stands Lee Sin tried to become something that doesn't exist? Sona is also pretty much talking to herself in her mind(Schizo maybe) there's many more that include something similar to " blah blah blah Summoner". I also don't like the new lore.
There's no reason that the fantasy of summoners can't exist within the very specific context of Summoner's Rift, but the Institute of War was just baggage that needed to be dropped before it did longterm damage to the lore of the game. Better to pull the bandaid on year five then wait around for years and years until it became an even bigger mess.
