i dont know if they arent canon anymore, but if they are....i think Riot should put some context on which ones were, when did they happen or what was the world before them.

even the oldest nations in modern Runeterra seem to be relatively recent when compared with the whole Rune Wars which seem to have at least "recreated" the planet.

the oldest race that seems to know if them is the Brackern. but there must be some more content on it, if they were capable of ravaging the planet there would be presence of the places and the secondary effects that happened after them.

i dont know, i like the idea of keeping them as some kind of archaic event. but i feel the lore department should give some more insight into what happened.

or at least have some champions that predate the Rune Wars completelly. Skarner may be the only one right now...

For those not in the know; Rammus and Skarner's new lore both make mention of the Rune Wars, so they are indeed still canon.

And yes they definetly should go in to them more. The context we've been given implies that Shurima was involved in the Rune Wars since the Shurimans knew of the Brackern before their hibernation, but that's only a small bit of information. Important, but only a small step.

As an extra note Jaredan talked a bit about this on his AskFM, saying that right now, Demacia and Noxus don't have the required runes that can cause the damage seen on the scale of the Rune Wars, which lends to the idea that the Rune Wars are wars specifically named because of the use of continent devestating runic magic, where as before they were just named Rune Wars and the rest left to the imagination.

Interesting developments I say.

This is an idea that's floating around (or maybe I just made it up I dunno) for what to make the Darkin, that would differentiate them from the Aspects on Targon. And as current fan theory is that the 3 darkin mentioned are going to be Aatrox , Kayle , and Morgana when their lore is redone, then that would give a great in. Perhaps the war between Kayle and Morgana (and that whole society) was the Rune Wars. That would give an awesome Niche for those 3 that make them pivotal players in the world, while also giving an in to learn about the past. Honestly, the more I think about it the more I like the idea.

that's good to know. and its true, the Rune Wars are similar to what would basically be a "Nuclear War"..the effects of magic must have caused mayhem across the whole planet for a time and left scars on the world.

but they dont seem to be found anywhere. and that's strange.

we know for example that in the distant past Lissandra and the watchers were causing what was basically an ice age, and at that time Shurima wasnt a desert. maybe because of the climatic shift caused by the increasing icecaps.

we know that Noxus was founded on what was previously Mordekaiser 's citadel..

and that in the past the Shadow Isles were "the Blessed Isles" and there was an old kingdom from which Kalista was born.

however. all these mentions belong to modern history.

even Gnar 's lore seem to point that he existed at least during the age of the vigilants, or a little bit before. im not really sure.

my best bet would be that somehow AurelionSol 's story may refer to a Targonian Empire that existed way back in the past. maybe even before the Rune Wars.

that empire may have been a casualty during the wars. leading to the current Targonian Society we have now, and the loss on power to control the Star Forger.

another theory i could take is that Icathia was either part of Shurima early on history or that it is much more ancient than we know. and would be logical to think that the Rune Wars may have caused the appearance of Void Beings on the planet after them...

the Rune Wars may even have become the place of birth of the Vigilants too.

but the truth is that we dont know, and the impact of them is not present in the current lore...a bit sad tbh....
