........Riot went out of their way to record over 7 minutes of various taunts growls and other crap.... ........................... ........................ And i fucking LOVE IT. FINALLYYY. WELL DONE RIOT.

This is how a MONSTER should sound, not Khazix with his witty remarks or Kog being a puppy. The Void are MONSTERS, Homicidal evil hungry monsters. AND FINALLLY RIOT MAKES ONE SOUND AS SUCH. WELL DONE RITO, WELL DONE. Standing Ovation Edit:

NO, we cant. It breaks the feel of the monster. When i think of playing a monster, i think of playing a Beast, an ANIMAL, something that acts on instinct. It may be intelligent, extremely so, but it dosent reach that level where it talks.

Cho'Gath should not be like that. Have you ever played him or read his lore? It's amazing how he actively talks to you, the summoner. He is an intelligent plotting voidborn, not just some mindless rampaging monster.

It may be appropriate on some champions. Not just on any given voidborn though, they aren't just a mindless force looking to devour the world by force, their plots are a bit more intricate than that (though their goal might still be exactly that).

Not a fan of this direction one bit. The Voidborn are NOT just homicidal monsters incapable of speech, they are essentially otherworldly conquerors that command vast legions. Every other champion from the Void is capable of speaking English, so it makes no sense why they'd suddenly retcon them to be voiceless.

Additionally, Summoners have a mental link to the champions they summon, so even if the champion doesn't speak their language they can still understand them. There's no reason why Rek'Sai's dialogue should still be growls then. Immensely disappointed with Riot's decision :/

Summoners no longer exist (Which I don't like btw), so that isn't a reason anymore.

They don't exist in the lore, but they still are in the game (the whole lore change wasn't deleting the league of war, it was removing that concept from the world of Runeterra)

Rek'Sai is probably just a wild, animalistic beast or whatever from the void. The rest of the voidborn are pretty intelligent. I don't understand how it doesn't make sense that she doesn't have a voice? Why do all void characters have to have voices? Why isn't Riot allowed to make a monster that doesn't know how to speak lmfao, like have you ever actually watched a monster movie, or played a game with monsters in it?

Omen was scrapped years ago. You know, the time when they could hardly give champs more personality than a couple of annoying lines. Their character development has gotten 100% better since Omen was scrapped. You can't really compare champs now to champs today. There's no way in hell they would've been able to design Rek'Sai back then. I wouldn't even be surprised if Rek'Sai is based off of Omen.

why doesn't it make sense for her to be voiceless even if the other voidborn are able to talk? Its not like every living being on earth is capable of speech,why should everything from the void be able to talk? Not to mention how Vel'koz mentioned how some of his voidborn companions are very primitive.

Also summoners can communicate with their champs telepathically,that doesn't mean they can actually understand what the champ is telling them. Karma for example says something in an old ionian dialect when using her ult(and yes she did that already before the rework),but it doesn't get translated for us,because karma is thinking in this language,which only causes the summoner to hear the same thing. The same goes for gnar and rek'sai,they simply don't think in the same languages(or even with words) as the summoners,thus the summoner doesn't get a clear sentence out of them.

Because it doesn't really add much to her lore or character I think. It cuts off a major means of expression for the sake of being unique. I'm all for being unique, but not at such a cost.

Vel'Koz doesn't even seem to have a mouth to speak with and he's from the void, so her not being designed for speech isn't really a valid argument.

Hecarim speaks English. His lore is still "some force of destruction wants to destroy everything". There are plenty of other champions like that as well. Quite simply, not all champions are going to be deep or sophisticated. Some are pure shallow beasts.

To me, a pure shallow beast is a boring beast. Why should I care about a pure shallow beast when there are other, deeper beasts? I'm sure there are more pure shallow beasts than deep ones, so why are we playing and learning about a pure shallow one?

Why do we learn and play Garen rather than one of the many soldiers under his command? Why do we learn and play Trundle rather than one of the trolls he leads? Why do we learn and play X rather than the many Y? Because they are special and interesting.

nonono, they should not be redoing and VOs based on narrative. they have supposedly separated game from lore, so that should not be driving any changes in the game, per Riot's few talks on this subject. Champions will still call you "Summoner."

I strongly, strongly agree! If we're still Summoners 'in the game', then let us be Summoners in the game. Sadly, I doubt this will change Riot's mind. They've been excising Summoner references and such for years.

Just because something is a monster, does not mean it cannot be intelligent to some degree.

The fact that she doesn't speak doesn't mean that she can't be intelligent.

I don't like it as we learn nothing about her in her own words, just as we know nothing about Gnar in his own words. Everything must be told to us outside of the game.

I didn't say that. I would like to know a champion's thoughts though through their own words and not just what is told to us. I know nothing about Gnar except for what has been told to us.

I'm not sure if i like this lady's growl-only VO (note: I still have to listen to it), and that's the reason: VO is such a powerful tool to give a champion depth, to make her interesting, to tell something about her. She's a female void monster, she's the second non humanoid female champ ever (other being anivia). Reducing her to "brainless hunting killer monster" is... a wasted opportunity, Imo :(

I liked the idea i read in another thread, where a user suggested to just make her scream, except making her say something (even just "DIE!") when she ults. This means she CAN talk, che just doesn't want nor need to

It's kinda weird, and I feel like this is a problem exclusively because no other monster lacks speech. I mean, Riot finally releases an actual female monster, and then she's the only monster without speech... why? This feels bizarre without a precedent, and just increases the likelihood of people assuming (or in many cases INSISTING, it turns out) that she's a he/it.

It's also a bit disappointing that she looks like Skarner, has animations like mega!Gnar, and doesn't get a smaller hurtbox when she burrows despite her visible area literally noticeably decreasing.

Loving her kit, though, and at least we have a female monster that isn't Anivia after all those years.

But intelligent, sentient monsters are far scarier than ones that just growl at you. What's scarier, a random monster killing you or a monster that knows exactly what it's doing and is going to take huge amounts of pleasure making you suffer? Alright, fear is subjective, but there's something deeper in a being when they can tear you apart and laugh while doing so.

the thing is intelligent monsters also offer the idea that you could reason with them. But with this thing,there is no reasoning,you could try to talk to it,but it will hunt you down either way.

Is speaking a language the only way for us to assumes she is intelligent? Surely there are more ways for us to tell if Rek'Sai is intelligent? Like the fact she remembers all of her tunnels entrances must show that she has intelligent right? As well how she can accurately pinpoint where things are when she is underground must mean she is intelligent. Just because she doesn't speak a language we can understand doesn't mean shes not intelligent, personally i think it shows how sophisticated she is because she basically saying, "Ya I know what your saying and I could easily speak it my self, but I consider your language to pointless."

It's not so much that it's a sign of intelligence as it cuts off the means for her to show her lore to us. When we hear what a champion thinks about the world they are in and the champions and items they interact with, that gives us insight into what the champion is like. Without it, we mostly get told what they are like, not shown. Her only speaking in growls is unique, but not very helpful in telling her story I think. Why is she different from all the other void champions that communicate with us? Even if she doesn't speak a human language, we should be able to understand them as we are connected to them I think. She's hardly more 'alien' to us than any other void champion. Is she basically saying that? Or is that speculation? We can't tell because we don't know.

I find myself imagining an encounter between Gnar and Rek'Sai....

Rek'Sai: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWREWWRRWRRWWWWRRRAAAR

MiniGnar: GADA

Rek'Sai: RAWWWRRRGGGRRRR

Rek'Sai lunges at gnar, jaws gaping ferociously. Gnar nimbly leaps out of the way and tosses his boomerang at Rek'sai, hitting her on the snout. Rek'Sai swipes Gnar, sending him flying. Rek'Sai tunnels into the ground and prepares to erupt around his prone form and devour him. However, the moment Rek'Sai bursts from the ground, Gnar transforms!!! MegaGnar has arrived MOFOS!!! Gnar wallops Rek'Sai on the nose stunning her and causing her to back away. Gnar then throws a boulder at her and leaps into the air preparing to crush the fearsome beast.

MegaGnar: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWRRRWRW

Rek'Sai: GRRRRRARWRWRAAR

Queen Rek'sai just hasn't bothered to learn how to speak inferior Runeterran tongue....it's nothing but the barking of common dogs compared to a higher language.

Ironically, I disagree. I think having constistency would benefit the lore department greatly. While I have no faith in narrative ever since Trundle was unceremoniously retconned and replaced, I think the best course of action for them would be to figure out what they want their lore to be (what type of stories do they want to tell), how they want to relate the lore and the game, figure out what the world is and then make everything consistent with this vision.

If you have a solid clearly defined foundation to work from, it will greatly easen anything one tries to build on it.

However, due to having the old lore, this all is greatly complicated and honestly rightfully met with resistance.

I think the second half of her VO is for the Eternum skin. It has the same echo-y effects as Eternum Noc.
