What species is Rivershaper?

So, RITO's newest game, League of Runeterra, features some never before seen characters ( not just playable champions) and one of the is Rivershaper,an Ionian card.

"We are proud children of the First Lands, and the streams of her magic flow through our vastayan blood as they do through our realm."

He's appears to be part of the Vastayan race.There're three vastayan tribes of the sea:

  1. Marai (Nami 's race)
  2. Raylu
  3. Makara ( carnivorous ever-smiling)

He doesn't like really sinister or carnivorous,but that doesn't mean that he doesn't feast of aquatic flesh,but no human? What do you guys think? What race would he be a part of?

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if he was a marai. I mean the ones in the comic really look a lot like Nami and I think that the designer of this comic didn't know that the vastaya are shapeshifters or undererstimated just how different the individual members of the same tribe could look like(just compare Xayah and Rakan).

Though a new kind of vastaya would also be possible because I don't think that this tree about the vastaya lists all of them anyway, for example in "silence of the dammned" there is a mention of "skard vastaya",that don't appear anywhere on the tree, so there might be more "tribes of the sea" that we don't know of.

Daaaamn, I hadn't checked out any of the card game's artwork yet, but this character looks SO fucking cool. I really wish Riot would add him into standard League, he's an absolute fuckin cutie. This is just an educated guess here, but he looks like he could be some off-species from the usual Marai we've seen so far.

Look at the tissue on his hands, and the forming of the veeeery small portion of his tailfin we get to see under the shell belt. He looks nearly translucent, like a gooey texture instead of the hard-formed scales we see on Nami. He looks more akin to what you'd see on invertebrates instead of fish, its all very smooth and fleshy, like a worm, or a jellyfish.

If any Rioters read this thread, by any chance can we get this guy in League? He's uh, cough cough interesting to look at, and no I'm not just saying that because he's hot I mean cool, ahem.

Marai we know about and don't live near Ionia. Makara are most likely shark like based on description (there is a theory that Shark Aatrox is one of those holding his sword), so out of the 3 Raylu seems the most logical choice however, only 3 types in the sea and all 3 fish like, no crustaceans? I dunno.

That said, the Sea isn't a River. Eduard Santangelo's drawing might have been just based on what he observed as there appears to be a few tribes of the sky and Rakan and Xayah, even though they have wings are part of the Lhotlan tribe (land based). That leaves only 5 to 6 tribes for ALL other types of creature to walk. Wukong is Shimon. Ahri is unknown. But none are listed as river.

Well, he's called "Rivershaper". Rivers aren't really a marine thing, more of an aquatic thing (marine being ocean-related, aquatic being freshwater-related). So I think its possible that this a species of freshwater Vastaya that we don't know about yet. Not sure.
