So in season 1 there were ranked rewards but you had to be in the top 25% of elo to even get a bronze reward. I personally played then but i wasn't good enough to be in the top 25% so i did not receive rewards. I think riot should definitely make an icon for all season 1 players regardless of if they were in the top 25% of elo. I sent riot an email and they suggested i post it up on these forums if i wanted it to happen so please comment on it so we can make it happen.

but they gave a free skin to all players.

Wonder why they limited the icon to only the top 25%. That's a small number of players (even more so when you think how many may have left since then as well as how the game has grown).
