I've liked the lore we've gotten since the retcon. Shurima, Sion, the Harrowing, the Journals documenting Rek'Sai, they really got me interested, so yes, I can safetly say I like the retconned lore thus far. No guarantees that will continue of course, but for now, I'm happy!

Am I happy with the way Riot's handled the retcon? Not really no. While I get their reasoning and I'm in favour of supporting this new lore, I feel they haven't handled it well at all. They clearly weren't prepared for this and it honestly, in retrospect, seems like a decision they'd had for an excruciating amount of time and just finally wanted to get off their chests. I'm glad it's cleared up and this stuff is out in the open, but I would've been more in favour of them delaying the retcon's reveal so they had stuff better prepared.

That's my honest opinion.

The old lore was just more League-like, this new stuff is actually very clichéd, it's only saving grace is the presentation. Which I think is what too many people are focusing on, I mean if the older lore had that benefit, how would we view them then? Also, a lot of plot-holes of the old lore, were fixed in the JoJ, but they still haven't linked them, so we can't call them out on a lot of the stuff they're bull-shitting.

Although I love the art team, they are the ones responsible for most of the praise the new lore receives. (Rebirth excluded, that was well-done but it was in the works for months before-hand.)

dammit, voted wrong because the poll was awkwardly worded.

Honestly though, to me it feels like the retcon hasn't even happened yet.

We got a lot of promises and loom and doom and gloom early on during Ascension, but then...

Well, I stopped using the League website or the client to check out champions, and started using the Wiki instead.

I learned what Factions was, and still have to read up on all the old Lore before I try getting into it again.

I feel nothing for the new lore because I haven't read anything of it. I didn't read any of the short stories released on the forums because I was more interested in reading old League Judgements.

So, before I go on for half a page about stuff I'll say what I've been thinking lately.

I feel like the retcon could easily be backed out of, since they haven't actually changed anything yet (I know they did stuff with Xerath and some of the other Shurima champs, but they haven't yet touched the Summoners, the League or the IoW). It's been so long without an update on what the new setting they're developing alongside the game, and the few things they have released haven't been exclusive to the old Runeterra, that if not for the constant discussions I'd almost think the retcon was only a weird dream.

I feel like there's still hope that eventually a new dev blog will come out, or a message, or a forum post, or a tweet or anything, either subtly saying that the retcon was retconned or just posting some new lore directly referencing the stuff they said they wanted to retcon.

The retcon hasn't happened yet Riot, you can still save the beautiful world you got us invested in, just because you said you were going to scrap it for a new one unrelated to the game it's relying on to get people to read it doesn't mean you can't change your minds.

Please do, please do change your minds.

Can't answer honestly with the binary poll. What new lore are we comparing the old one to? Problem with the "New Lore" is that they rushed the announcement out before the cake was half baked, so we're not seeing all the changes. I like some parts of Shurima, with Azir while despising what they did to Xerath and Skarner. Sion was fine. Same with Rek'Sai, but there are a ton of loose ends that need to be reconciled before I can tell if the new one is "good".

The issue with the way Riot's been handling lore lately is that they don't tell complete stories. They basically give a teaser of a story, talking about how things are "mysterious" and suggesting links to the rest of the universe, but then they never go back to it. Next champ, totally new relationships, totally new world elements, all left "mysterious". At best, we get hints about tenuous connections to other champs (Gnar and Velkoz), but it's almost always just the "what", nothing substantial about the "how" or "why" or "when" or "where" that helps develop the world of the narrative.

The short Novels they keep sending us are GREAT

But the LORE doesnt exist at the moment. Some novels without any ties to one another is not A LORE, lets just clear that up.

Would have liked if you posted a middle option saying "I like the retcon for specific things bot not for all things".

Old lore. It was somewhat cliche and derpy, but at least it related to the game I play and sometimes they would actually finish a plotline. New lore is even more cliche without the IoW and goes nowhere. "What is bard anyway?" Idk you're supposed to tell US rito.

I'm in the "If the retcon was done well, then I'd be all over it, but I feel like it wasn't, and I have a hard time accepting some of the stuff pushed out"

The old lore I reread over and over. I've read some of the new lore once just because it feels like it's put out less than major content, or it's hidden somewhere and I can't find it.

The only thing I really like that's come out of the New Lore is Sion and MAYBE Azir. However, that's it. I much preferred the older lore with the IoW and Summoners. There was no reason to really retcon them out of existence. They weren't perfect, but they could've just been altered instead of just wiped away without a care in the world.

Sneak Dog3/3/2015, 3:49:31 PM1 votes

The poll is too binary. I think the raw quality of the new writers is better and these writers might be more comfortable with their new limitations than with the IoW. I dislike the loss of immersion though.

In what *should *be unrelated, Riots seemingly lack of care about characters is also preventing me from enjoying the new lore. Characters get changed freely to fit the new lore.

But if Riot somehow unchanges the changed characters and creates new immersion, I'm happy. I don't trust Riot to do this at all, but it does mean I don't think the old or new lore is flat-out better.
