But they are also descendants of humans, and humans typically don't fall in love with their siblings unless under dire circumstances. Even animals don't see out relationships with their kin unless there's absolute no other animals in their species around.

I'm thinking it's romantic too, but him fighting for her could mean anything along the lines of him taking action for a reason relating to her. Maybe he's there to protect his maybe sister as she fights for her cause? It doesn't necessarily mean they're in a romantic relationship... although I'd definitely say that's the case from the way he's looking at her > ___ > That look on his face says smut on the mind to me...
