Whats a Summoners Cup with no Summoners?

I like to think that summoners are from a different dimension summoning copies of the real versions in rune terra to fight on a battle field they have made from the world runeterra and do this for many reasons fun, to settle disputes, sports, conflicts ect. but ultimately you have to have studied these spells and the ability to summon champions to do this. But if you summoned the real champ instead of making a copy then have no control over it since it is its own being instead of it being a puppet you made. But ya its kinda lame how its not directly tied in with the world but I like the explanation I did for myself it makes me feel better :).

It doesn't work for me... if I'm summoning copies then it isn't the real thing...

plus why would the copies want to kill each other.

Garen would never kill Lux... without the trappings of the IoW the whole game logic falls apart.

The IoW was the narrative knot that held, what can at best be call, a weak plot of sallow characters together.

Worse. Riot could reasonably implement the institute in a new highly trimmed down form, completely unlike its previous form. I can even imagine them announcing the removal of the institute entirely to create a new one in the new lore and have lore about building up an institute that stops a major threat (void, rune magic, shadow isles). Because announcing they keep it but in this new form is basically the same as removing it and adding something new.
