Ryze of the apocalypse
It just hit me and it makes too much sense. Ive never really thought about Ryze. He was just another Jax/Shaco/Eve type champ. They're in the League but have no real back story. As i was reading one of CupcakeTraps response about Brand and Ryze. Thinking about those two champion lores, in that order clicked in my brain of who/why Ryze is. Rune Wars were akin to nuclear warfare. Causing great catastrophies throughout Runeterras history, the destruction from warring factions using rune magic became so horrible that every faction all came together to form the Instatute of War to prevent future Rune War outbreaks.
Rune Warfare was so scary to even the likes of Zaun and Noxus that they would make a pact with their enimes to never use those weapons again. What terror in our own lives would cause nations with an alignment of 'saturday cartoon villain' to hand over their most dangerous weapons? A tangible feeling of impending self irradication. Rune Wars were a threat to ending the world.
Ryze is a rune mage. The only rune mage. The last rune mage.
The scroll on his back probablly contains the secret sause, the chemical X and everything not nice, to unleashing the forbidden and forgotten art of rune magic. Why doesnt Ryze destroy the scroll? Who knows? Perhaps its indestructable? Perhaps the loomimg threat of the Void makes Ryze believe that world ending magic might be the only weapon to stop the Voidborn invasion.
Thoughts?
