@Rioters, How Much Does Player Sentiment About The Old Lore Affect Your Current Lore Decisions?
Lore doesn't feel like it matters to Riot beyond new champions releases anymore... and to be fair, it's been years since it did.
I'm just kind of curious about how much player opinion on the Story and Art boards actually matters to the Rioters involved in creating Runeterra's lore.
Do we matter? If so, how much? Can player sentiment against horrible feeling decisions change/affect your approach/decisions about lore?
Because based on what you've released in the last year or so, It really doesn't feel like player opinion matters anymore.
It's easy to say that you care about player opinion, but especially when it comes to lore, it's been a really long time since you've actually shown it RIot!
To be honest, it really felt like lore fans have been continually thrown under the bus by the lore team at Riot.
First, Riot pretty much ignores the lore forums for months/years.
Then, out of nowhere, they announce the Retcon which destroyed most of the lore of Runeterra in one feel swoop.
The Dev Blog in which the Retcon was announced was met with highly negative criticism from the community.
The first Riot post is at more than 500 downvotes!
The lore boards were later removed from the old forums without warning** before they were immigrated to the new forums** for some mysterious reason**...Riot eventually fixed this, but only after the community protested.
...The narrative team continued to not talk to us....except for Riot Opeli...who made some pretty controversial posts including: "why is it imperative that a 5v5 game is deeply connected to our characters?"
A Rioter literally asked why the game "League of Legends" should be deeply connected to its characters. What a great design philosophy! /sarcasm. Seriously, why wouldn't any game want its gameplay to be tied to its lore?
I've got no hate for Opeli, she was just doing her job...but it feels like she was a product of RIot's new approach to lore.
Riot keeps telling us that they care about Runeterra these days, but they never deliver on the quality or quantity that they did during season 1 and 2.
Seriously, if a company is becoming more successful, and not delivering a champion release every two weeks, and not releasing lore updates in the form of a newspaper every two weeks, you would think we'd have **something **pretty good to replace it.
The problem is, that we haven't.
Content releases have gotten further and further apart (this includes visual updates) and the quality of lore has not increased, and arguably, has pretty much been destroyed.
It* seems* that the bigger Riot gets, the less they care especially when it comes to their lore. (Please prove me wrong Riot! Please!** Actually release some content that proves this thread wrong!** I would love that!)
I'd love to care about Runeterra's Lore again!
It would be great it was worth caring about again!
Post retcon, the lore is in shambles, and it's being left that way for quite a while.
Riot now, we are lucky to have one Rioter: Bioluminescence who is actually willing to talk to us on the story and art forums despite the fact that he/she doesn't actually have much concrete info to share. I don't think that he is actually even on the narrative team, yet he's one of the only points of contact we have with RIot on the narrative threads.
That seems like something must be going pretty bad at RIot HQ in the lore department, as they seemingly don't exist.
Hopefully other Rioters, who may actually be in the Narrative department will someday gain the balls to talk to us players about controversial issues, like the Rioters of old used to.
That would be awesome to see RIot gain back one of it's defining traits it used to have:** developer involvement with players in order to make a great game!**
@Riot, can we work together again? Or are your Rioters going to continue to placate us with nonsense and non-answers in order for you to easily disarm questions and ignore constructive criticism which could help make your game better?
