@Riot, from the perspective of a player, your new lore direction creates a confusing experience!

Seriously, how is a new player supposed to know the difference between the new lore and the old lore? It's taking Riot so long to update the lore, that it seems like it is going to remain in this weird state of old lore/new lore both being cannon for quite some time.

Personally, I find the new lore direction boring and generic.

With the removal of Summoners and the Institute of War, I don't really find anything engaging about the world of Runeterra.

It's just a generic fantasy world now, there isn't anything that defines it beyond what you'd expect of a fantasy world.

I don't even know how to view Runeterra as a whole anymore! It just seems like it's a bunch of champions in different places doing different things! Different factions used to be connected through champion interaction...we haven't had much of that in awhile.

Sure, some of the champions are still interesting...but many of those are currently being re-written to fit this stupid retcon... which means that we would be foolish to get invested in them. Why get invested into something that is going to change?

Riot, have you figured out how you're going to pervert Jax's lore yet?

Seriously Riot, if your goal was to retcon Runeterra in order to make its lore more interesting, then in my opinion, you've already failed.

Runeterra has become really boring since the lore retcon. Champions feel much less connected, and it's hard to care about any of them when they could get retconned whenever Riot feels like it.

Why get invested?

It's just getting harder and harder to care about this game's lore.

There are folks that are still fighting for the return of a decent Lore for this game. Congratulations for you. The Narrative Team may have risen to the dominant power, but as the Black Rose, the Institute of War shall rise once more.

Soon

Agreed. The narrative department made this decision entirely internally, wrote a dev blog and moved on. Now I'm here just thinking that's it? That's all you need to retcon the very premise of your lore? No Q&As, no community suggestions (there's this certain trap....), just one single dev blog.

Well, I lost faith in narrative after Trundle got retconned, the IoW is just the continuation of retconning everything unique and different in this lore it seems. Now all that remains are a bunch of classic factions isolated in classic conflicts which all have been done countless of times before (justice vs might, pirates vs zombies, sand empire vs sand monsters).

I can't care about the lore knowing that my remaining favorite characters could legitimately be gone tomorrow. I could log in and see an announcement that one of my favorite characters got removed from the game and replaced with a new one. Given narratives secrecy and Trundle/Xerath, this is entirely possible and just plainly stupid. I'm not excited to see the next piece of lore, I dread its coming. I fear who will be the next one to be removed or changed to fit Riots newest story exactly as they envision it.

The lore department seems to be the most un-Riotlike department of all the departments at Riot I know of. I don't understand how this came to be. The rest of the departments are doing awesome things. Heck, Riot is acquiring its own tier 2 internet network right now, skins is pumping out the high-quality skins and the new champions always have some awesome unique mechanic. Narrative just seems to actively against gathering player feedback on changes (because they can't tell us their changes beforehand and can hardly change every story based on feedback afterwards), actively against open communication with the fans (a major lore-shattering anouncement is made, no Q&A or player interaction about it though, just move along to the new lore) and due to the previous point just arrogant (The decision is made, can't change it). Is the lore being outsourced, is there something seriously wrong with the way I perceive them or does Riot just not care about this?

The newest login screen is just another reminder that despite the lack of lore updates and despite us still being summoners with summoner spells, mastery pages and rune pages, summoners don't exist anymore. Just another insult to injury I suppose, 'best to show those old lore fans that we truly are removing the summoners from the game'.

From the perspective of a sane outsider... the Lore direction is lazy...

They will claim the Retcon was a tough bold choice... As a comic book reader I say it was lazy at best.

Notice... PLZ NOTICE... Fantasy LCS got a board in a week.

But fanfiction and RPing, two groups that had been thriving for years, where not deemed important enough to warrant support.

They Are Not Interested In Lore Fans.
