Was Mordekaiser born with that name, or did he adopt it?

I just thought about something.

Morde was a kid once, right? That means that his parent(s) saw him and said, "Aww! What a cute baby! Let's name him fucking Murder Emperor!" (that's the literal meaning of Mordekaiser)

I'd assume it's a either a title or a nickname he got from back when he was a warlord.

His original name has probably been lost to the ages after his resurrection on the Shadow Isles.

Murder Emperor. Is the direct translation.

Seems like something a peasant would call a Tyrant with a reputation for murder.

If I wanted my kid to be feared across the world, I would name them that as well.

In my headcanon, I believe that Noxus is actually Mordekaiser's true first/last name. The reason that they would want to name the nation that is to remember his defeat and whatnot.

Keep in mind that the german language likely does not exist in the lore of league of legends,so "mordekaiser" does not necessarily translate to anything within the world of runeterra.

And Mordekaiser might be his last name, not his first one.

Okay, it's triggering me more than it should, but everyone keeps getting it wrong. Mordekaiser does NOT mean Death Lord, but is more literally translated to Murder Emperor. Which is miles cooler than that edgy joke of a name.

insert Heavy Metal REEEEE here

I want to say "No" but this is a universe where Gangplank's name is straight up just "Gangplank" and some cruel parents named their son "Tobias Foxtrot". So, I mean...I don't think we know for sure.

I like to think that in the game world Mordekaiser doesn't translate to death lord or whatever, and that it is his real name

Salson7/31/2018, 8:49:02 AM1 votes

Well, Sauron was originally called Mairon. Seeing that he's Morde's inspiration, this theory doesn't seem unlikely.

Maybe his father or mother was an evil king with the ability of looking at the future or something... so he or she said: "This boy is destined to rule over Valoran, lets call him DeathLord" ... i mean, its possible.

HalcyonDweller7/31/2018, 4:50:30 PM1 votes

Pretty sure he adopted it. Adopting a cool title is one of the first things lich's usually do after conquering death.

SugeMinPikk7/31/2018, 6:02:45 PM1 votes

Pretty sure mordekaiser means "death king" or "dead king" so uhhhhhhhh probably a title

“Ja, ich bin Mordekaiser. Ja, Morde. Tote. Kaiser. Nicht ein spiel.”

Just like Mufasa and Scar (from the Lion King). Their asshole dad Ahadi named his first son Mufasa, which means "King." Then he named his second son Taka which means "Trash". Not only that, after Taka gets gouged in the fucking eye by a buffalo, Ahadi declares that his second son should be called "Scar" to constantly remind him of the incident.

I mean, my name is Mordekai (it's a Jewish name) and I'm from Israel, it's a completely normal name here (Mordekaiser is Jewish confirmed).

"Aww! What a cute baby! Let's name him fucking Murder Emperor!" I think he might be related to Bakugo from My Hero Academia.... https://pm1.narvii.com/6480/8027caf95a9b218db3bc647069e253e1dc70ccd5_hq.jpg
