Riot please: Scrap those SG skins. (long-ish read)

Heya guys. I know this won’t be even taken into consideration by Riot, but I still wish to share my thought on those skins, as Star Guardian is my favorite skin line, and as a HUGE fan of magical girl genre. Call me an autist or w/e for caring so much about the genre, it’s w/e, idc, I really need to express my frustration over those skins I was so eagerly awaiting.

PREFACE

I thought the first “team” of Star Guardians, Lux, Poppy, Lulu, Janna and Jinx, were actually good, and very befitting of the Mahou Shoujo fantasy, with outfits that were actually matching, personalities that were for a good team dynamic, and all of that. Now, while I think that SG Ezreal and Soraka are overall acceptable (although I do have a couple of minor issues with them (their hair and VFX xd), nothing too big), I think that the Ahri, Syndra and Miss Fortune ones were mistake, and it’s not even complaining about how many skins a certain one got over the past few years. So let’s get started.

AHRI

Ahri is not really the one I have a problem with the most, it has little flaws, but those couple of flaws are very, very big, big enough to warrant it being remade from scratch.

The very first one is that, I think, out of this new “group” of Star Guardians, she is NOT the one who should’ve gotten the legendary skin. Because out of this group, her base lines aren’t the ones breaking the “magical girl” mold the most. Yet, the new lines she was given, were overall really poor quality, she straight up act like an unlikeable bitch, and that makes very, very unfit for her to be a leader. Because I’m very doubtful someone would enjoy being led by someone with that much misplaced smugness as SG Ahri has. Traditionally, the leaders of magical girl groups are either very peppy and clumsy, so much as to sometimes give the viewer second-hand embarrassment, or shy, quiet, cowardly, gaining more and more courage as her character develop through the series. In both case, the leader is very supportive of her teammates, and try her best to help them, and sometimes even try to help her foes out of their bad situations. Leaders are meant to be genuinely nice, and supportive to people. Lux fit that, perfectly. SG Ahri doesn’t.

Second: the hime laugh. The hime laugh trope is usually slapped on rich, haughty, very classy but overall dislikable kind of girls, and Ahri only fits two of those adjectives, guess which ones. It just makes it very, VERY obvious that this skin was to make quick money off of weeaboos by shoving as many anime stereotype they could into it, besides the obvious “it’s for Ahri, the ultimate weeb-bait champion” part, completely disregarding the quality that’s supposed to be put into a 1820rp skin.

MISS FORTUNE

Similarly to Syndra, who I will talk about more further down, I think that MF’s personality isn’t befitting to be one of a Magical Girl. At. All. Being so explicitly sexy, a walking pair of tits and ass is the one absolute “no” for a magical girl. The nudity found in the magical girl shows is most of the time here to be artistic or represent purity in some way. With a few exceptions (ie: Puni Puni Poemii). Also her hair looks bad on this skin, srsly change it riot xd Lastly alike Syndra, it really feels like she wouldn’t have much presence in the team, given her independent nature overall.

SYNDRA

Syndra wouldn’t be too odd in this skinline if she weren’t part of a team, if she were an independant magical girl, who while not specifically fighting for the bad guys, not necessarily fighting for the good guys either. But she isn’t. Her presence here makes no sense. But IT COULD make sense, it could’ve made sense, if she were the one to get the legendary-tier skin, with new voice lines, to actually explain what she’s doing in a team. But as she is right now, Syndra doesn’t seem to be the kind of person who would let herself be ordered by an insufferable Ahri. She wouldn’t let herself be ordered around at all.

CLOSING

This new team of Star Guardians make for what would be, realistically, a very, very dysfunctional team because of the poor choice of composition, and lord knows teamwork is the most important thing for that kind of team. Skins obviously created with not actual thoughts put into it for quick and ez cash.

Personally, I think that Taliyah would’ve been one of the most fitting champion for this skinline instead of Miss Fortune. Kayle would’ve also been good-ish for it, if she didn’t get a Pentakill, sorry I mean HEXAKILL now, skins this patch (srsly wtf).
