There is something that bothers me about Wawick VGU

And tell me if it's just me but... when I see him I can't help but remember that he's not a wolf anymore, every time I see his model I remember more and more that he's more a chimera than a wolf and the ears have started to look too much like a bat's for me... why can't he just be a wolf? :S it wouldn't be such a stretch if Singed experimented with wolf DNA as opposed to fox/bat :S

for clarification's sake:

I don't think he looks like a bat or a fox, he still looks and sounds and even runs like a wolf, visuals are fine, the problem is that when you read his flavor story (the one where singed experiments on him) they call him a chimera, this makes me (yes, me, I recognize it's a personal problem with the choosing of words on that story) feel like he's just not a wolf anymore and I start seeing his outlier features stray more and more away from those of a wolf, I guess it's a matter of perception but even if he was 100% wolf and then lore says that he's a cat for example, you'd start feeling him like a cat instead of wolf.

What I'm trying to get at is that the word chimera should be a lot more ambiguous because it defines him as something and modifies any views you might have of the character. In the past, warwick wasn't just a wolf either, his lore made him a chemist of sorts so you saw this savage wolf jumping at people but you couldn't shake the idea of him drinking potions... does that make sense?

Why settle for just a wolf when you can make a super predator?

Plus it adds a couple of extra details to make Warwick stand out from other Werewolves.

but that's the thing, he isn't really a werewolf anymore :S

he does look like one in part I guess but it feels... muddy?

Eh he looks enough of a werewolf to me. Just a bit cooler than normal.

Yeah, I really dig the larger ears and tail. Adds a ton of character as well. His ears actually twitch and adjust constantly, looks great in game.

Indeed. The extra features just make him seem more beastial and feral, more like a savage monster than just specifically a wolf, but is still highly recognisable as a wolf.

Not only this but league's cast is NEVER just a stereotype. Most of their Archetypes have this certain twist that makes them all the better!

We don't have this benevolent nature spirit Ent in Maokai but a vengeful Treant The Lich isn't just that but basically a death priest with an air of drama and a voice to kill

Making just cardboard cutouts of character archetypes would be really boring and would inhibit the character artists to work their magic.

Honestly I prefer it this way. Having tropes sucks. Using tropes as the building blocks for something better is good.

I mean we get stuff out of this like serpent brahman worshipping hindu priestess from the carribean who beats the shit out of you. We get a magic man in a sack who's the protector of the whole fucking universe. We get ancient singing crystal scorpions. This is good.

he is indeed recognizable as a wolf yeah :P and his visuals are all in line with this thought, it's his lore the one that steps all over the concept of a wolf champion, for all that matters, he could just have wolf dna that went awry or enhanced thanks to chemtech... it's the word chimera the one that feels... out of place, beyond everything warwick has always been THE wolf character, now you keep his look but then you write it off :S

I mean you could easily just say "lots of animal dna was put in, but Wolf came out on top for the most part". It's not hard to explain or understand and nothing about it IMO muddies who Warwick is.

well, lore does affects the way you see a champion, generally you don't see teemo as satan but then you read his lore and the weird idea that under his smiley face there's the source of all evil pops up...

same goes for warwick imo, you see league's wolf character (one that is chemically enhanced that is, pretty unique take) and then you go ahead and find more information about him and it turns out that he isn't a even a wolf, he's a chimera... of course, for other champions this is also the case, Rengar for example is never called a werelion (we barely know his origins btw) but it's left in the dark, it's up to you to decide whether Rengar was born like that or was modified by magic or whatever... with Warwick you are plunged into the concept of a chimera

Because in his lore singed experimented with many different predetor's DNA, why stop at wolf when you have so many efficent hunters in the animal kingdom.

I mean... of course I understand this rhetoric but... I guess it's just that I'm a wolf lover and I kinda wanted just the wolf champion... that's not to say he doesn't look cool, hell he looks a lot like a badass werewolf but then his lore steps on that x_x it's hard to explain I guess

While he does have batears and a foxtail,they really don't make him look that chimeric. I didn't even think that the tail was that of a fox until it was pointed out and even his ears still have wolf features.

yeah my problem with him is not his look, it's implied lore but considering that his full lore hasn't been released I think I'm jumping the gun here, though on his color story is it stated that he IS a chimera and not a wolf

the problem is that by calling him a chimera, stuff starts to distort and you kinda stop feeling him as a wolf and more as a beast? yeah that's the best way I can put it

Uhm actually his full lore is already out and it doesn't call Warwick a chimera at any point(though the word werewolf isn't used either).

And Singed only called Warwick chimeric before he knew what Warwick would eventually turn into.Singed didn't know at that point in the lore that he'd be this wolflike.

yes, at the moment of the post I hadn't read his full lore, I agree, there's no mention of him being a chimera anywhere nor is he called a werewolf either but that's appropriate, as I said on another post, Rengar is never called a werelion, he is but a hunter and there's nothing else to add there.

I liked his lore, he is a chem driven beast that happens to be characterized with wolf like features, he isn't your typical werewolf and that's very awesome on it's own

Also, he isnt a werewolf anymore. He is a chimera now. I prefer it this way better. A lot more original than "another werewolf"
