Does Darius wield some kind of magic in him?

How does his passive work lore wise? This can't be some kind of bloodlust because Darius is well known as pragmatic, cold blooded warrior. But how making opponents bleed gives you power in general? May be it has to do something with old Aatrox lore? Remember how Aatrox could make entire army fight better with some kind of furious inspiration. (Then he did it to Tryndamere) Because if Darius is just an ordinary human being then how can he fight demi gods and other mighty magical things with just an axe? Yes we have some other simple humans in this game but at least they have hextech weapons or at least they are ranged Pls dont tell me about because judging by their abilities they have magic in some ways.
