So, with Taric confirmed as an aspect...

Now that there is a confirmed change to where Taric hails from, I can't help but be a little nervous. It was a slight disappointment when Pantheon changed from "Badass Normal" warrior to an empty shell of a human being possessed by a spirit of war. It's a cool change, but I very much liked the old Pantheon lore (although I really enjoy the changes to Diana and Leona!)

I'm not sure what angle they're going to go with in terms of Taric's lore. Is he going to be like Leona, where he coexists with the spirit? Or is he going to become totally dominated by it? I'm probably in the minority on this, but I really enjoy the sort of quiet dignity that goes along with Taric. As a champion, he is a guy that is motivated by his desire to heal and protect people. His reason for joining the league wasn't for glory or power, it was so that he could...Just help people. A down to earth individual that liked to distance himself from revealing too much about his personal life. All in all, he was (at least to me) a relatable character with a clear motivation, one that really resonated with me as a support player (I like protecting people! That's why my favorite supports are people like Braum/Alistar, with Bard being a major exception).

Now, when Poppy's rework happened, they completely changed her character. And don't misunderstand me, I think the rework to her lore was ultimately for the best (she became a more interesting, three-dimensional character as a result) but there really wasn't much of her original personality left. I know there are a lot of people in the community who want Taric to go to Mettaton levels of "fabulous"--and Aurelion's line about Taric being the aspect of 'tackiness' worries me that the resolve that initially drew me to the character might get erroded. Suppose, for example, taric's new backstory is his body being taken over like Pantheon's was--only this time, what's taken over him is a flamboyant spirit that's intent on DAZZLING the world? That might be awesome for some people, but I'd like to cast my 'vote', as it were, in the other direction. I hope that, even if taric is still a kind of "charming" individual, that he'll retain the general sense of purpose and dignity that I (and hopefully others) enjoy about him as a character.

Tl;dr I hope that Taric's new lore isn't that he's taken over by an aspect like Panth was, and the Spirit is so flamboyant and garish that it erases the general dignity and knight-like aspect of the character.

I totally agree with your post. Taric is by FAR my most favorite champion, and while I understand that the community thinks of him as a "joke" champion because a few of his lines are funny, if you really think about it, Taric is a very serious character. He sounds so serene, so solemn... There's a type of sadness to his voice. A white knight trying to help everyone, a paladin, a "Don Quixote" if you will. Nowadays everyone's lore is something like "Selfish blah blah unlimited power blah blah", but Taric is just a genuinely chivalrous character.

I'm with you. I hope they flesh him out but don't make him a joke/broodmaster 900/complete pushover.

From what I remeber Riot said that they wanted to preserve a lot of the charm that Taric had and since this applies also to the errand knight acrhetype I don't think that being completely possessed would fit into it.

I don't like the entire direction they're going with champion lore. I don't like the idea of "gods and spirits" manifesting in the mortal plane. I actually like mortal champions more and I think that the "gods and spirits" types should only be limited to a handful.

Considering that Aurelion Sol insults Taric by calling him tacky, and past comments regarding Taric by Rioters, I think it's more likely than not that he'll keep his humanity.

I think he'll be a targonian aspect that has taken over its host, like pantheon.

I mean that would actually be more in line with his old character, since old taric did come from a different "world" as well, which would also apply to him if he was an aspect of Targon.

Though I dunno in which direction they'll take his character, because we already have a dedicated healer(Soraka) and protector(Braum ) in the league,so having even more of that wouldn't really add that much,it would be kind of repetetive(that was a reason for Poppys lore change,as the whole "her parent was killed"-thing was already done with MissFortune).

On the one hand I totally agree with you but some part of me really wants that flamboyant spirit of GEMS you mentioned.

Oh but if they change his taunt I'm out. YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN GLASS WAITING TO BE SMASHED
