Players Guide to Riot's Lore Retcon Strategy

1. Champion lore that was actually grounded in Runeterra and had many champions with interconnected stories that evolved overtime no longer exist! Now we have vague lore lacking essential story details that could otherwise enrich a champion's history, and establish that champion's their place within Runeterra. Only broad and thematic, yet mostly unexplored ideas seem to be produced post retcon.

2. Each champion bio is less than a full paragraph, with the odd exception. Riot makes excuses why the full lore isn't available. If the full lore is avaliable, it's posted on the forums, with the sub-par summarized version getting the spotlight on the lore client...despite the fact that it tells you literally nothing about a champion.I disagree with Riot here. The summarized lore doesn't give you enough information to get a rough perspective on what a champion is about. It gives their extremely summarized story lacking any of the heart or emotion that is essential to understanding what that champion is about.The 2-3 sentences of summarized lore champions are getting is useless.

3. Notice that LoL factions is producing better lore than Riot. Sadly acknowledge that Riot has given up on producing high quality lore and seems to be merely going the motions these days. Feel disappointed.

4. Realize that lore decline within LoL isn't due to the staff's ability to produce quality lore, but the management structure.

5. Acknowledge it probably isn't the Lore team's fault. From what I've heard lately, they have it pretty bad at Riot, with their creativity on a leash, they aren't free to write the lore of Runeterra anymore, but are assigned to specific projects to write narratives for. Lore is planned by people unskilled at writing lore. That sucks.

I guess we'll never get that cohesive narrative that only a good team of writers and decent editor in chief can provide.

According to recent RIot posts, the lore writer's don't seem to have the freedom to write for the world, but only for the specific champion's/projects RIot's trying to sell/retcon at the moment!

I guess Riot is a business after all.

I'm really sorry for any perceived/intentional hate that I may have sent your way in the past Narrative team. It was undeserved. You guys were just doing your jobs, following Riot's...and maybe Tencent's agenda.
