Easy Way to Reflect Character Progression In-Game, While Making It Easy Money
Lemme explain. There's a lot of hub-bub about the fact that the narrative has not exactly gone anywhere with the lore since the hard reset in the Shurima Event. Or that it, kind of, never really ever went anywhere. However, the Narrative team seems super interested in bringing character progression and arcs into League's lore (or, at least, that's the pulse I think I'm reading on the boards).
Let's play with a hypothetical real quick, just to try to demonstrate what I mean.
In the future, a lore event has Ekko save Jinx and bring her back from her madness. She in turn vows to help him attain his goal of "a better tomorrow for Zaun". Great. That's awesome character progression. But it means jack shit in-game. Jinx is still insane in-game. She's still all about destruction. Ekko still makes fun of her for talking to guns.
That kind of stuff takes me out of it. Who cares about the lore if it means nothing in the game? Who cares about progression outside of the game if it doesn't affect the champions inside?
Of course, practically, it can't. Lore cannot dictate entire champions. Players play Jinx for her character fantasy--insane chick who makes things go boom. Which is fine. And her progressing within the lore should not automatically mean she needs to be re-done from the ground up, and basically become an entirely different champion, design/VO/fantasy-wise.
But it doesn't need to.
The absolute easiest way to tie in Jinx's character progression in the lore into the game? Release Reformed Jinx. The absolute easiest way to reflect lore progression in-game is through skins. She dons street fashion similar to what Ekko wears and her voiceover is normal-ish (obviously she'd probably still be a little crazy, maybe when she gets excited
). Super simple. Easy money. 1350-1820RP in the bank.
Simple decision makes so many people happy. The people who want to play a Jinx who has been affected by the events in the lore. The person who simply falls in love with the new skin, but doesn't care about the lore. The people who want to keep Jinx how she is now, who now can breathe easy since they don't have to buy the skin. The Narrative team is happy because their product has a concrete, visible effect on the actual game. And Mr. Rito is happy because his pockets get lined with that sweet, sweet RP.
Would love to hear thoughts on the idea.
