What if Annie was from Demacia?

And she and her parent were on the run from Demacian Government and they were chased into a forest that is on a one of the magical ley lines which give them the edge to fend off the Demacian. The Voodoo land could be like a safe haven for Witches and Warlock in Demacia.

An unforgiving barren wilderness, the Voodoo Lands were colonized by political and social outcasts from Noxus, known as the Gray Order, who sought to leave their neighbors in peace as they pursued dark arcane knowledge. The leaders of this outcast society are a married couple: Gregori Hastur, the Gray Warlock, and his wife Amoline, the Shadow Witch. Though survival was a challenge at times, the Gray Order's colony managed to thrive in a land where so many others would have failed.

This is taken from Annie's lore if you replace Noxus into Demacia and it would still make sense. They are political and social outcast because they know magic.

I really like this idea. Something slightly alternative could be making Annie a refugee from Demacia who fled to Noxus. This adds a representation of Noxus that has yet to be seen since there are already many stories of non-Noxians fleeing or hating Noxus, but none who willingly joins it.

It would be cool if Annie had Demacian origins. Maybe her family were part of a fringe clan near the border that the central Demacian authorities routinely suppressed for magic use. The clan could even have been there before the Demacians showed up.

They could further develop this by delving into the origins of Tibbers. Perhaps in Demacian mythology, or Annie's faction more specifically if they do predate the Demacians, bears holds certain protective significance. Animal spirit worship, something like that. Tibbers could have been intended as more than just a teddy bear toy. He could have been a gift meant to symbolize protection, given to Annie by an old relative that met a tragic end at the same time Annie's people fled Demacia. (Ok, this is sounding a bit like the Trail of Tears...) Annie's magic helps Tibbers come to life, but Tibbers has emotional significance to Annie beyond that - reminds her of mom or grandpa or something. [Possible tie to another Champion - a sympathetic Lux lets Annie escape while Garen or someone else is trying to round up magic users in the area.]

But where does Annie and family end up? I think Piltover/Zaun would be the best place for Annie's "current" location. Piltover is a major trading town, so fleeing on ship could likely bring them there. Maybe one of Annie's surviving parents, seeking a place where her daughter could develop her magic unharmed, heard rumors of such possibilities in Ionia. They tried to get there, but could only afford passage to Piltover. The parent worked for a while, trying to raise money to continue the voyage, but another tragedy happened. Factory accident or something. So now Annie is left as a magical orphan in Piltover/Zaun with only her magic and Tibbers to protect her.

How are they living on the border of Demacia for hundreds of years and surviving without being noticed by authorities long before your suggested idea that Garen finds them? Not to mention that all Demacian soldiers are trained scouts, so the chances of Garen to be the discoverer is a hugely convenient coincidence just to get Lux involved. But then perhaps the Order isn't really "close to Demaica", which would raise concern about raiding barbarians from the North or reavers from Noxus looking to add more power to their armies. IDK I guess living unopposed in the wilderness of Valoran would depend entirely upon just how expansive the neutral territories of Valoran really are.
Demacia would’ve been built within the reach of the anitmagic environment as humanly possible. So the plausibility for a clan of generally gifted mages to live on the fringes of that makes no sense, especially if they pre-existed before the kingdom. As the proto-Demacians, definitely a lot more fearful of magic than current Demacians. They would have kicked out the Order way back then rather then centuries of years later so that Garen can do it and it would make less sense if a Des Ex Machina was protecting the Order from Demacia's awareness for so long.
Also taking into account why would an occult society live so damn close to this region anyway? Surely their power would be at such a disadvantage? Okay you could argue maybe not everyone from the Order was magically gifted but then I would argue what about the Order makes them outsiders? If her parents are normal then Annie would have been born a Demacian. But now we're getting closer and closer to the tone of Lux's lore, which brings me to my next thought...
This whole idea that Demacia could have a strong presence on Annie's lore seems to share the fundamentals of Lux's entire inner conflict with Demacia. Similarly Diana has emotional conflict with her home domain as well. Oh and Syndra too, she's another strong female who's entire character and personality is built upon being unfairly at odds with the people surrounding her. Although Syndra's lore is outdated and subject to heavy changes, so I guess she doesn't count. But regardless that's 3.. maybe 4 powerful females struggling against society they're born into. Riot should do something a little bit different is all I’m saying.

Anyway don't take me obviously poking holes into your concept as a passive aggressive response. I quite love your idea about Tibbers and for that alone I’ll give you an upvote. Yet I still think this entire thread about Annie's heritage has no narrative significance in practice. All it would do is further perpetuate the idea that the community here has ran with is that Demcaia is.. 50s America or something. Like Demacian's are always on the edge of their seat looking for filthy mages. Well news flash all the major nations are the same, all on the edge in case of threat. So by no means is Demacia a "bad" or "fanatic" as any where else in that world.

TL;DR: I would say read my opinions please but in any case I will just say that I need more convincing for why tying Annie's family background to Demacia or having them live close to it would be such a great idea.

Well one Demacian story mentions the "annulment slums", outside of the kingdom, where Demacia's magic users are sent to. It would make total sense for Annie to be from there!

I personally don't think it should matter where Annie's parents came from or whom they might be hiding from. The obvious flaw in Annie's outdated lore is she seems to be the side note in her parents story. Wasting time explaining why Annie is where ever she is for what ever reason that is, takes away from specifically her and she has been missing out for 3+ years now.

Demacia, Noxus... Piltover. None of their desires or their disdain towards Annie will have any bearing on the child, nor the progression of her character. All Narrative needs to do if you ask me is establish that Annie lives among a self-reliant society of outcasts. Tucked away somewhere out of the prying eyes of most.

I think Annie's lore revolves around her parent was because she is only 6 years old and there isn't much they could tell about a 6 years old. They probably intended to introduce her through her parent and then build on it but they never got to it.

If you look at the art book you kind of get a sense of what they might of planned for her.

Through the art book I think they intended her to have a dark story arc early on in her life. It is possible she orphan herself with her power and end up alone and only having Tibbers as her companion.

Again. It doesn't matter what excuse Annie's parents had for leaving which ever region they originated from because it will hardly have any significance on her story. Even less so if the parents are dead. So what is the point in introducing and explaining in full detail some background history if there is no pay off. Demacia will have no reason to go looking for Annie's family and Noxus will have some punishment for deserters.

Just causally re-established the outcast society that she lives with and move on from there. Keep the idea that her parents have exiled themselves in an effort to carry on their own lives and hint that they could be protecting their daughter from those with ulterior motives. That should be all that's required.

Also the excuse that there's not much to tell from a 6yr old's perspective is a valid point. But adding story filler and fluff just to thicken out Annie's bio feels like missed opportunity to me. I would implore the Narrative team to take the challenge and think more outside the box as i know they'll make Annie's LU work without using the history of the parents as a crutch to tell HER story. If that takes form in her being an orphan then I have no problem with that, however that still makes it completely redundant to connect Annie's family history to Demacia or anywhere else.

I absolutely LOVE this idea. We don't exactly have that many Champions that represent how Demacia isn't this perfect gleaming city of righteous knights in armor. In fact, the Art of League of Legends book suggests a new tone for Annie that strays away from "BEATEN BY A LITTLE GIRL" to more of a "Misunderstood little girl with destructive power"

Personally, I would prefer that this facet of her were to remain, with some modification. Perhaps it could be made as some political purge, maybe more political maneuvers and power plays in Noxus.

If it became as simply "exiled Demacians", then there would not be much more room for elaboration as to why Annie's parents went to the Voodoo Lands.
