To clear up who is Vastayan, and who is not.
I've seen a lot of misconception about who exactly is Vastayan, and I thought I would just explain it real quick.
Right now, the only champions we have so far who are explicitly vastayan are
Xayah and Rakan - Obviously
- Either Xayah or Rakan (dont remember which) has a voiceline that refers to him as a Vastayan. His origins are already pretty vauge, so it keeps the rest of his lore intact. He still lives in the Kumungu Jungle. He probably migrated there due to the wider variety of prey in the bigger continent of Valoran.
- Eduard Santangelo states that she is Vastayan.
The only champions we have so far who are implicitly Vastayan are
- Though she hasn't been mentioned yet, the piece in the journal concerning shapeshifters was no doubt created for her.
- Another shapeshifter. His story literally wouldn't change at all. He is already given mysterious origins, and we know Vastayans have an affinity for magic.
- The origins of the monkey people are poorly explained, and easily retconned. His story would mostly remain the same. He would simply meet Master Yi in Ionia instead of in Valoran, which actually makes more sense.
That's it. Everybody else who wasn't listed above is a separate race, unless they get retconned, which is unlikely, although possible. As Eduard puts it, the Vastaya are not individual species. If a race is explicitly given a name, they are not Vastayan.
- Is a member of the Ursine, a race that lives in the Freljord, far from Ionia. They aren't even human/animal hybrids, they're just animals. The only thing human about them is that they are intelligent, and they can speak.
- Is the last of the Minotaurs, a race that used to live in the Great Barrier. The Great Barrier has not been mentioned in the new lore, but we have no reason to believe it does not exist anymore.
- Is a Marai, a seadwelling race. Her lore is still completely intact.
- Was once human, but was converted into what she is now by Vilemaw.
- Was a man who was transformed into what he is by Singed, who brought out the metaphorical beast inside of him, not the literal beast. Has probably never even been to Ionia.
- A mutant rat. He is one of a kind, and is obviously unnatural.
- Though a human/dragon hybrid, in a completely different situation. Vastayans are specifically the creatures from ionia and their descendents. Dragons (as far as we know) do not inhabit Ionia.
