Was it really necessary to tie such a cool character like her to Gangplank? This is the first character to have "relationships" which don't fit her at all. She would be much better as a solo character who dedicated her life to her religion instead of a crush on a grumpy pirate king. It really ruins her in my eyes, although I really wanted to be 100% positive about her, that seems like a big flaw to me.

All of her lines give me the impression that she takes the Carpe Diem approach to life: she does what makes her happy when she wants, and the rules be damned. She fights, she drinks, she eats, she cavorts, she makes merry, because all of those things are forms of motion, and her god is motion and life: she worships by living life to the fullest.
LordHippoman1 votesHave you listened to her lines yet? She's absolutely devoted to Nagakaborous. She only mentions Gangplank a few times, and usually in a dismissive way. Any relationship she had with GP was likely fleeting at best, and is certainly gone now.

In this case, meaning she doesn't disdain a romantic company, but that doesn't mean she gets too close to one man in particular, it's simply not her way. She doesn't feel any regret in doing this since she's just enjoying life. I really don't see how this would ruin the character.

I was just hoping that this game would have a cocky or strong badass female character who doesn't have these "I'm a woman, so I must charm/romance/be involved into romantics" stuff, but I guess that my hopes crash right there. I really had hopes in Illaoi, but the lore ruined it for me.
UomoAfide3 votesYou're mistaking the occasional romances (not love be careful) as a weakness. It looks more like a female character with no regrets on living the life the way she does, i don't see why this make her volatile. Sure it doesn't make her all serious and all that, but that doesn't mean it's a wasted character. It doesn't mean that she is the kind of seductress, or man-eater kind of female. From the voiceover you get the feeling she is the kind of woman who lives life the way of Nagakabouros. Romance doesn't define her, it's just something she doesn't seclude herself. At least, that's the feeling i got from listening her lines.

Like Miss Fortune's charm, while she's a great character and could deal with anything without those "lovers" described in her lore. Like Fiora, who's lore now based on the wedding and this time it's Illaoi. I feel like reworked Poppy is going to be the wife of the yordle king or something, which she left because he beated her up. I'm kidding of course, but I can't hide my emotions about this, even though I might sound like feminist, but I'm a 18 years old male.
UomoAfide2 votesNo no, it's ok, i get what you say. I just wanted to point out what were the strong points on Illaoi's character. While i could agree with what you say about female champions backgrounds, i also feel compelled to note that League has still a lot to do before being free from social constructs typical of our culture, like the need of a cause for a female champion story that is not necessarily related to a male character. Personally i don't have any problem with the current situation, but i can understand people would like more diversification on that matter. We should be happy for now, Illaoi proves that females can finally be more diversified from the usual cute - sexy stereotype. It's just a small step for the moment, but you gotta start somewhere eventually to bring change.
