So, as the King of Masks, does that mean that you hold dominion over people with masks, or only the masks themselves? Also, do you happen to know (off the top front of your head) how many champs and skins have masks? I could go through and check myself, but I wondered if you knew already ;)

Tik1154 votes

If you mean full face masks and on default skins?

Bard Jax (Maybe, Shadows and stuff) Kassadin (I think? Iunno is the top half of his face the mask or no?) Kindred Thresh (Iunno i mean, he's mostly a green spooky) Shaco Viktor (Iunno i mean that could be classed as his new head)

So thats 3 - 7, 8 if you include the new champ

I'm not sure if I'd include Thresh, but I'm having trouble working out if I'd include what Kennen and Akali are wearing. Shen though - surely that counts? Are half masks included like Urgot and Malzahar?

Helmets are also a problem. [zombie-brand-mindblown]

Tik1157 votes

Ok if we ignore the ones who are spooky spooks And seperate it between full masks, Half masks and full helms (Which ironically, J4 and Panth and such arn't proper full helms sure they cover most of the face but its not akin to say the Medevil helms) we have

3 Full masks (Bard, Shaco, Kindred) 9 Half masks (Malz, Kass, Singed, Swain, Akali, Zed, Shen, Kennen, Yorik) 2 full face helm (Naut Azir) 6 Helms covering most of their face (In regards to armour thickness and how much of the face you can see) (J4 (only just), Tryn, Panth, mord (Very debatable) Olaf, Kayle, 6 Helms covering part of the face (The Armour is much slimmer and typically doesn't have as thick jaw gaurds) (Kalista, Sej, Nami (or is that a Tiara?) Shyv, Syndra, Voli 4 Eye pieces (Jax, Yi, Heimer, Corki) 2 with a bit of the helm covering their top half (Aatrox (?) Liss)

Viktors is kinda up in the air, on one hand its placed over his head but at the same time it's cybernetcis soooo, add 1 more if you are that person Nocturne is ignored cause...erm.....is he pure darkness or does darkness wear clothes? Urgot is Urgot which makes it hard to deside (I mean can it be called a mask if it's basically grafted onto his face?) and Spookies ignored because its debatable if it's their clothing or them as a being, except maybe mord and Karthus And no mention of hoods cause...they're hoods

Also excuse my poor spelling and grammer, I'm a lazy idiot

He seems to know everyones weaknesses from the teasers with vi, sona, garen, and zed. Maybe through those weaknesses he fights his enemies. we will have to see in the times to come. summoners rift will be his masterpiece.

Sharjo24 votes

I feel like weakness isn't what he is focused upon, but flaws. Using bullets and sorcery he does what he believes to alleviate that flaw and make the person "perfect". The teasers themselves would be indicative of this, but right now I can't put anything solid down in terms of theorizing. I'll do so later.

EDIT: A note because I'm curious, does the gun remind anyone of Lucian's gun in terms of the patterns on it and its material? It's probably nothing but it just makes me wonder...

Decrit4 votes

It reminded me a LOT the weapons of lucian, even thought his do not use bullets while in this case both the barrel and the projectile appear to be quite elaborate.

Sharjo1 votes

See a part of me wants to think me was of the order Lucian is in, but then I dial it down and wonder what guns are like in Demacia, and if the origin of the weapons is the only similarity.

Stars Shaper9 votes

The weapons are too different. Actually, Lucian's weapons are not even guns but stones which can focus light beams in different shapes and power which got modeled in a comfortable way to be used which resemble what we call a gun.

By what we can get from the champion sneak peek he sounds like some1 who has an obsession for his art and how he envisions it, so the actual gun he wields might be his own creation too.

What style of masks do you like? In fact, what's your favorite? (I'm no mask expert, but to have such a strong opinion on one is interesting to me).

I admit, I think it's quite striking (if a little one-color for me personally) but I'm super looking forwards to someone out there 3d printing it or otherwise making it a physical object. I know a few people have made Kindred masks, but this one, with the engraving, seems like a bigger challenge.

Skelenth4 votes

Viktor has one of the most awesome masks ingame. Especially with the Creator Skin. The masks of the blood moon skins of Kalista and Thresh are really awesome too

personally i'd think trying to get a convincing weathered, natural wood carved look would be harder to achieve than a clean monoline engraving on a smooth geometric mask. Although Jhin's mask seems to have a lot more complex shapes comprising it. Overall trying to make both masks would have about the same difficultly but for different reasons.

You're probably right. It's also possible that the organic shapes of the Kindred masks will forgive some mistakes, while the more angular and humanoid mask we see above would be easier to model (for papercraft or 3d printing) but less forgiving of any slipups.

Maybe they're better suited to different skillsets of crafty-type people. Those who do well with precision crafting, and those who do better with freehand. Either way - I love seeing propmakers at work.

You're misinformed. It would take less than 2 days to prepare the video you saw. And that's all it is- a video. Meanwhile, they can just be beginning working on him. That would also take little time, considering all the scripts are there already. They can produce a new champion in less than a week if they so desired.

It takes YOU weeks to produce a video. It doesn't take weeks to produce a video. Like- it took my neighbor a year to finish putting up his siding, but I could do it in less than a week. But, it's not only this. I've posted handfuls of discussions in Concepts, only for the ideas to be salvaged from like a junkyard. Had you already been thinking about employing these ideas, you would have said something to that degree- yet Riot remains silent in the Concepts page- that is, unless someone has the software to make a decent visual.

You're creating concepts in their forums. You're playing their games. Do they need to have copyrights? Did anyone force you to creat this champion? You probably did it for fun, but currently you're just crying a like baby for copyright that there isn't.

Also not like they didn't copied your champions. Their skillset is no doubt far superior than your bullshit. And last but not least, they already said this champion has been in develop for a really long time.

Do you believe everything you're told? Riot Day 1: We're making ChampionX Forum Day 3: Champion Concept Riot Day 5: ChampionX will be like this... Forum Day 7: Artwork for new Champion! Riot Day 9: ChampionX will look like this...

You're naïve. Riot says ABSOLUTELY nothing about champions, other than "we're making one". Then, they slowly release more information. This relationship is a "Time-Hole", magicians use this trick to make you think they can read your mind. It's when you're distracted by time frames, and information is tossed around freely- then you place this information in the wrong time frame- so when that information comes out, it appears they were ahead of the time. Here's an example:

A card trick: I will read your mind. Pick a card, and memorize it. No matter what I ask- you have to remember this card. Q1- Think of a color, and I will write that color on this paper. -I write down the card I made them choose, ask their color and crumple the paper. Q2- Think of a City, and I will write it on this paper. -I write the color from the previous question, ask their city and crumple the paper. Q3- Think of a person, and I will write the name on this paper. -I write the city from the previous question, ask the name of the person and crumple the paper. Q4- Think of your card, and I will draw it on this paper. -I write the name of the person from the previous question, ask the card and crumple the paper. Then I ask the person to retrieve the crumpled papers, and read them. They will believe I read their mind.

That is you- lacking any real observation skills to maintain an intelligent position in such affairs.

Meanwhile you're blindly assuming that this new champ is an imitation of your own when based on this 1:30 video, virtually nothing coincides with your concept (and yes I read it, she's a... unique, if somewhat bland supporting type of champ) except the tree/plant imagery that showed up part way through the video. This champion is certainly not based off of your concept in the slightest (it's a dude that shoots people, not a nature spirit healer/debuffer), and if you were trying to farm upvotes or hijack the thread, it's backfired hard. If you weren't, then I'm sorry you're just arrogant, ignorant, and misinformed.

As an actual artist and designer, I can tell you from first-hand experience that a design (as in a real, innovative/creative and unique creation) takes days and days of brainstorming. That is only to get the initial conceptual work done. Then you have to prototype several versions, then you have to finalize the design. Okay, now you have a design that you like, that takes a week or so to get finished. However, that is still only the initial design. Now you go to producing the design, which takes a fair bit of time depending on resources required. Then you have to continue testing, and fix problems that you didn't find initially. Sometimes, and this is actually a frequent occurrence, you have to scrap a concept and choose a different prototype. Once you finalize that part, you have to polish your creation (which in the case of a champion in LoL would be things like VFX, VO, and fine tuning the models and textures. Then you have to market it (which as you can see is already very far into the process, and in this case is directly analogous to these "deadeye" teasers). Once you market it you test it (PBE) and then once the initial screening is complete, you release it to the general public.

This is no "Time Hole" this is just the standard design process. Hopefully this sheds some light on how this whole system works.

Hey,

Sorry to rain on your parade. It does take months to develop a champ. It does take weeks to produce a video such as this one. No, we can't produce champs in less than a week. I think you're a little misinformed on game development.

So, I love that you're on the forums, and I love that you're commenting, and I love that you stepped in to correct this guy. But there's one thing that does make me sad: you're on the red tracker. And because this is early in the thread's lifespan, and because it's currently the most popular Mind of the Virtuoso thread, that means this thread is going to continue to get the most attention and most upvotes, and so will this particular comment chain. So basically, your comment has doomed most of the discussion in this thread to be about champion development, instead of about the video itself, which is kind of sad.

But wait -- all is not lost! If you, or other Rioters comment elsewhere in the thread, you'll bring eyes, and upvotes, there, too! You can help shape the thread back on topic.

I see you're a composer. Did you work on this piece? (the music is amazing). Any cool stories about how it came to be? Don't reply to me here, because it's in the same comment chain as the guy above, but I'd love to hear more from you. (Suggestion: in reply to the original post).

Cheers, Hyrum

Not just game development... Development in general.

Its true that these two may seem similar, but Jhin doesn't relate to any of his champs selected, there's only two images of plants, and he made a girl while this is a dude with a mask (who was said to be very creepy).

As someone who's dabbled in animation and in making games, I understand that this video alone took a lot of time to make.

First: exhibit A is the amount of texture put into each random person (as they didn't use Garen, Sona, Zed, or Vi). Not only their designs but their bodies.

Second, after taking up drawing, it takes a good number of hours just to draw and color lips as realistic as the ones seen. On top of that, they were animated (with smoke coming out).

Third, nothing seems recycled from anything I've previously seen which means that although theirs barely motion happening, there was a lot of work done just to make the characters.

Fourth, even if live actors were used to make this, the amount of VFX (visual effects) and scenes are enough to be about two and half to maybe even three weeks of work.

I could go on, but there is no possible way, that his post could had been read and within about even two months would a champion like this be made, tested, approved, and then get teasers.
