Rakan, is too good for Xayah. (Rant)

Disclaimer: I'm not a big lore buff, so feel free to correct me on anything im wrong about.

Lately, I've been noticing more and more people taking shots at rakan, and his "infatuation" with xayah. The reason I use that word instead of love, is because it seems like there is a meme where rakan is just treated as xayah's fling. In yummi's interaction video, she makes a joke about rakan being xayah's pet. Obviously this is a tongue and cheek joke, and its not to be taken seriously. But I think riot is trying to hint at something and in all honesty, rakan sometimes gets treated like second fiddle

in most of rakans lore, and interactions, he always talks about how amazing xayah is. About how he will follow her no matter what, no questions asks. Now while this may seem like he is just some obsessed teenager with no thinking capabilities. The fact he is willing to go to such lengths to keep her goals alive, says something. While in her interactions, its mostly about herself. Her own plan, and her own ambition, rakan is just a passing fancy that she happen to meet. And while there is the occasional joke that rakan and her make about each others death. I feel as though rakan gives more about xayah than she does him.

Now this by itself doesn't make rakan super special, or anything but In the recent star guardian lore, it states how rakan is willing to give up his life to save xayah, even if it turns him evil. while in return xayah only wants to bask in it, and give into her lust for revenge.

While Rakan is shown to be the typical overzealous lover who doesn't think things through. I genuinely feel as though he legitimately cares about xayah and her own happiness. As for a couple character in league, it saddens me that xayah's interactions don't come across the same.

While others may find rakan annoying, irritating, and mildly amusing. I legit think he is too good for xayah, cause she is not apperciative enough about him and the sacrifices he is willing to go through to make his lover happy.

I honestly feel the same way.

I don't think Xayah isn't taking it seriously, but I think that Rakan is moreso invested in the relationship. Rakan is important to Xayah, too, but Rakan is the more loving and open of the two. Xayah is also far more close-minded, stubborn and kiiinda racist. So in canon, it seems like Rakan will be the more reasonable one, seeing that humans can be good and bad too, just like Vastaya.

I'm honestly hoping tension arises in their relationship so that Xayah can grow and better herself because of Rakan, and Rakan can learn to think for himself more, even if it means disagreeing with the person closest to him.

I won't say Rakan is too good for Xayah, but I will say that Rakan is a self-sacrificing, loving person, and Xayah is ambitious and spiteful (in canon AND SG). I think they could both learn from each other. And I think that Xayah has always been a bit of a bitch, ijs.

Rakan in his less joking tones he have in his voiceline not only seems to care about Xayah, but also preserving the history and future of his own race that is dying out. He seems really serious in the relationship that people in the community overlooks or simply does not understand.

Xayah more than Xayah loves Rakan. Of course, Rakan also loves Rakan more than Xayah. I think that Rakan is just more romance and love oriented in general, so she comes off as way more standoffish in comparison to him.

Rakan is just a weird boy who likes bad girls.

It's an incel fantasy geared towards female incels, I guess. Where instead of "nice guy finish last" you get "nice girl finish last" or something like that.

But really though, Xayah and Rakan is a relationship between an overly edgy girl and a guy who thinks like a brick. What a horrible match made in heaven. I ain't gonna touch any of the 2, they can keep at it among themselves all they want and I personally won't want a piece of that.

Yeah, he's too good for her! He should leave the woman he loves more than anything in the world so he can be unhappy and alone.

That's just how raw attraction works, usually one person puts the other on a pedestal and desires them to an extent that they are willing to prop up the relationship themselves. Cathay makes herself emotionally unavailable and Rakan reliably chases because he's smitten with her. That's what Xayah and Rakan represent: a passionate wild free flowing love. Not married with kids duty bound co partners that delegate and etc etc. It's just more fascinating and more realistic depiction of love because these one sided relationships are the norm. Not always to a crazy degree but it's rarely 50/50.

Opens up an interesting and a honestly a bit of an obvious quandary for Rakan as a character. Namely how far is he willing to go for Xayah, who's a bit of a zealot when he doesn't really believe in the cause as strongly as she does? If she suddenly goes full "remember no Russian" on a bunch of humans will he cross that line for her?

(IMO Xayah isn't actually THAT bad for Rakan as she does love him back to some degree and isn't blatantly manipulating him. Still it's clear he loves her more and that's the key dynamic at play.)

I see what you're talking about and I also have to agree on the account of Rakan putting out more effort (into the relationship) that Xayah does.

It's clearly seen in game when Rakan says, "I got you!" And Xayah replies with a, "Thanks!"

But there isn't ever a time the gesture of saving one is returned to the other. I supposed that's in part of Xayah not having any inherent defensive or supportive abilities outside passives like Rakan's special case of having more E distance towards her and that they can recall together. And the opposite is true with Rakan lacking in frequent offensive skills.

Although a rare occurrence, It would be nice to see if casting Summoner Heal on herself and Rakan would invoke some kind of interaction between them. Where Xayah actually takes care of her partner as a gesture to say that his actions don't go unnoticed.
