@Riot: I love Varus's new lore.

Just a small letter to Riot saying I love Varus's new lore. I had little connection to his old lore. I felt it was forgettable.

His new lore was beautiful to watch and read, and I"m glad to have seen it done the way it was.

Some people may disagree but I hope above all else it won't be retconned, for it was truely one of my favorite examples of how capable Riot is at telling a story.

EDIT: Gotta say, it's sad to see the downvotes on a post about someone liking the changes. But what ya gonna do v0v

If it wasn't for what now feels like a sad attempt to just shove and include a gay representation in League of Legends by force, replacing a typical father figure (of which we don't have an abundance in league at all) his original fans would not be so pissed. Sure the story is flashy, it is a story of it's own right, but it doesn't sit right. A lot of the outrage is being generated exaclty because they replaced the old Varus altogether. Nothing about his new foundation says "a vengeful Father and Husband struck with grief and with nothing to loose". That is his and has alwas been his core identity for pete's sake.

Agreed. His new lore is emotional and i love how the characters feel.

There's nothing wrong with liking it. Obviously this was Riot's intent, to release something to be enjoyed by fans. If you enjoy something, that is perfectly fine, who am I to tell you otherwise?

But I also don't think it's fair to shame people for disliking something. I think a lot of people have legitimate criticisms for the Varus lore and how it was handled. And that's good. Anything should be criticized to some extent, even stuff you like, because that's how we understand what we like and what we don't. What's good and what's bad. And how to improve. Riot shouldn't just expect criticism: they should encourage it, because they can use it to learn and produce even better content in the future. Obviously some will just hate to hate, but to chalk every criticism of a work up to that because of a few people is foolish. Most of these posters want the lore and every other aspect of the game to be really good, and that's why they are so disappointed when it _really _ doesn't hit the mark for them. They are as passionate about it as the people who liked it.

That's not to say everyone has to rush to their keyboards and type up a huge essay nitpicking everything to death, but everyone has a right to, just as they have a right to say they enjoyed it. Just don't dismiss dissenting opinions just because you don't agree with them. Many of the critics will even admit there is some merit to the new Varus lore, but that doesn't change the fact that there are certain flaws preventing them from enjoying it like you are. And that's ok. You might disagree and say those flaws are no big deal. That's ok, too.

Like what you want, just be willing to empathize with those of us that have legitimate criticisms.

Same, I don't think all the rage about his lore is warranted at all.

What's exactly that you like about the writing? Legit asking - since to me a flashy music video and comic appear as just a shiny layer of glitter intended to mask the lack of substance within the story itself. Main characters aren't developed any better than a family killed off-stage in old lore; two hunters' character development stops at "they are gay and in love", the Darkin is the worst kind of cliche demon: He enjoys killing and torturing because he's evil. Humanity defeats and imprisons him for that. Now the demon is loose and seeks to eradicate all humanity because of imprisonment. And let's not forget the good old "love and friendship triumphs over evil" Deus Ex Machina every B-list anime loves using to resolve itself when it runs out of ideas.

Old lore wasn't perfect. But new one isn't any better. There's simply no character or substance to it, aside from a mishmash of awful cliches.

Varus's old lore is just a combination of cliches. Badass makes deal with devil to avenge his dead family? Every dark hero/superhero in the past fifty years has an iteration of that background.

I'm kinda neutral against it. Like, I'm not upset Varus' lore is changed, but neither I am ultra mega fan of it. It is a nice piece of lore (better than old lore IMO) sure though.

Only thing I don't like is how they chose Varus to be first gay representation. Like there weren't 10+ characters that could easily be. And I'm worried Valmar and Kai will deny or delay next (if there is any) characters.

Why? Because I don't want every single character to be gay. Neither Riot and community. There should be few, not many. So kinda disappointed that they will be "we already have gay champion shut the fuck up" excuse even though gay one is not Varus but Valmar and Kai.

It is a bit disappointing our first gay couple is huge tragedy background new characters, and not even champions.

Maybe you can imagine what it feels like to those that had their old lore retconn'd.

I won't hold anything against you or anyone for truly liking it though.
