What is your favorite faction ?

What is your favorite faction and why ? In my case it has to be Ionia. The art of the nation its self is so gorgeous, look at the Placidium or the Navori images. The Champs that come from there are also incredible, as far as the story and in game appearance goes ( Irelia's lore, Varus's theme, Syndra's lore, the kinkou trio and their lore, Yasuo's lore <3 and his in game dialect, and Karma and her everything). I find that it is the place that has the best history and funnest story to read ( The invasion part especially)

I love Shurima and Zaun.

Shurima because I like the contrast of this ancient and powerful Empire that had incredible reach and civility but that fell hard. Now the people who live there have the stories of all that past glory, but are more interested in just surviving in their harsh environment - no time for fancy empires. Throw Shurima rising again, and you've got a pretty mixed up situation!

Zaun because it's a bunch of people trying desperately to improve their lot, but being a bit iffy in places on the exact morality that will get them there. They've been pushed around a lot by other factions (specifically snobby Piltover - no matter how utopic their nation seems from the outside) but they've not given up and have remained astonishingly independent.

It is a toss-up for me; I like Zaun and I like Bandle City, for very different reasons.

Zaun has this Blade Runner, 1984 feel, just without the replicants and Big Brother being replaced by greedy corporations. It is gritty, yet maintains this core of hopeful advocates for technology that work in the shadow of irresponsible manufacturers. It is a place of ideals where innovation and discovery for their own sake have supplanted consideration for the consequences. Characters run the gamut of good and evil, such as Ekko who is jaded, but at least tries to do the right thing, Viktor who holds no ties to greater forces and works for what he believes is the benefit of all peoples, and Singed who works only for himself, even at the expense of others.

Bandle City is this quaint little community of sapient hamsters that has carved for itself a utopia in the harsh world of Runeterra. We have not seen much, but I like to think they have a society that is both rural and progressive, somewhat akin to modern day practices in cultivation and civilization; they appreciate the conveniences of new technology, yet strive to incorporate it in a way that does not spoil the world's natural beauty. Despite all their cheer and enviable society, yordles are nonetheless alien and perhaps a bit frightening. They require a community, or at the very least sufficient contact with another, or their minds slowly break down. It is this duality which makes yordles so fascinating, that they can be so warm and funny, yet cruel and indifferent if pushed too far. The more negative aspect of their psychology is suppressed, but still present, as seen in Tristana pyromania, Teemo pragmatism, Heimerdinger indifference to the world outside his lab, and Lulu amoral interactions with others.

That hardly dips into the consequences of a yordle that has gone entirely off the deep end. Veigar

Other factions are quite awesome in their own right, but Zaun and Bandle City remain my personal favorites.

Sharjo7/16/2015, 7:56:21 PM9 votes

For me I like the majority of the factions, but Noxus really stands out to me, in particular the more "traditional side", with fellows such as:

Darius Draven Katarina Riven Sion Talon Urgot

I hope Draven and Urgot actually count here.

Noxus is a nation of strong men and women who became strong through persistence, dedication and unwavering will. While some are born to nothing and other are born with everything the truly strong are those who command the most respect. Even if you are a forgotten orphan you can rise up to claim what is rightfully yours, as long as you have the strength to carry a weapon and bury it in to the fools who would try to stop you.

The thing that really got me about Noxus was the dichotomy between it and Demacia, in many areas but particularly in war. Demacians are organized and conscripted; they are numerous but they're aren't bred for battle as Noxians are. Sion and Darius are prime examples; soldiers who turned the tide with action and will power, who did what hundreds of Demacians couldn't do. Noxus values the worth of individuals as long as you can prove yourself.

Like wise justice is in the hands of the strong in Noxus. If you have the will you can bring it down on any you see fit, and those people are just as free to do the same to you. Of course a civilized nation has laws in place there's no shame in killing someone. The act of actually killing is in itself a sign of strength; only the strong can truly commit such an act.

One other thing I really like is the conflict internally in Noxus between the Black Rose and the true Noxian way. The Black Rose is deceitful, traitorous and rely on magic to do what they do. They lack true Noxian strength, and the struggle between the dark shady side and the strong warring side of Noxus is really compelling to me. Which is why Swain's cool, because he exemplifies true Noxian strength but isn't afraid to rely on those old alliances with LeBlanc if the situation calls for it. He's in control of everything despite what some might believe.

Also another thing; I really love when humans are depicted as being insanely powerful in a physical sense despite being ordinary humans. As such Noxus is really cool to me because it has many examples of humans showing physical prowess that would be impossible for normal humans. Their soldiers aren't as numerous as Demacia's, but they're ten times stronger.

Zaun is my home.

I've spent my life dealing with some nasty genetic diseases and allergies for which the only balm is a strong constitution and plenty of distractions (games, drawing, reading). I've been in an out of facilities and had hundreds of treatments - many of which were experimental. As a child I had to stay out of the sun, off the grass, couldn't play sports and it's only thanks to modern advancements in medicine that I finally have a decent life. Scientific advancements have given me a chance.

When I was a child I had recurring nightmares which I learned to overcome using lucid dreaming - the technique of becoming aware you are dreaming and thus empowered to shape dreams. To this day I love to dream, and build towers in my mind. Perhaps from here I got the idea of experimenting within my realm of influence? When I was 6 I tried to convince myself I had an imaginary friend I believed was real (failure). When I was 8 I tried not speaking for 12 months which I actually managed with a hefty book of flash cards. At the age of 12 I deliberately developed a speech impediment by reversing techniques used to fix one. When I was 15 I tried to overcome appendicitis with positive thinking and meditation (failure and almost death, would not recommend). At age 18 I tried to create a Kindlejack 2.0 by writing down exactly what kind of person I wanted to be, staying away for 56 hours reading it over and over then going to sleep and waking up as that person (it didn't work but the effects were pretty interesting). My favourite was when I was 21: In order to tackle crippling shyness I introduced myself to everyone at a new college as a character that was an extroverted version of my normal self and maintained it indefinitely while on campus. Eventually I became more social all the time while the character at college toned down until I arrived at a happy middle ground. Experimentation is everyone's right.

To me, Zaun is freedom. Zaun is progress unfettered by law or public opinion. Zaun is opportunity for creativity without judgement. Zaun is a place where I can just do my thing.

As a faction, Bilgewater is my favorite. I love the imagery of boats and docks, and being by the water, so there's a lot there that appeals to me. I also like Bilgewater's lawless feel, where people do what they want - especially because what they want is varied (unlike, say, Noxus, where everybody seems to just want power). Bilgewater just feels more alive and believable to me than some other places.

I also like a LOT of Demacian champions, even though Demacia itself isn't that interesting to me.

For me, Ionia comes an easy first because I love the strong feel of culture and spirituality it has attached, and a huge part if not all of the roster has very compelling lores (Irelia being chief among them, but including Soraka, Varus, Lee Sin, and Karma). I also find it interesting that outwardly Ionia seems so perfect, but then you look at Syndra in particular, who basically got locked away by Ionia's highest figures as a child.

I could go on a long-winded rant but I'm short on ime so I'll say that Piltover and the Freljiod also interest me a lot, though the other city-states are mostly great. I think Biglewater is lacking but we'll likely see some details there soon.

Noxus is my favorite. A city built on Strength and Power, those who are strong rise, while those who are weak fall. Swain's rise to power in his lore and the whole disappearance of Kat's father really puts things into motion. What if Swain and Leblanc made her father disappear 0_0

The Darkin If they even count. They seem so mysterious and just shrouded in mystery. I love it. The one character we know is a Darkin, Aatrox (He's also my favorite champion). I really enjoy the idea of their only being 5 of them. To me it seems like the less characters there are in the faction, the more detail they can put into the relationship between all 5.

Crowe Stalker7/16/2015, 7:26:15 PM3 votes

Zaun, because most of my favorite Champions lore-wise come from there, especially Viktor. THE GLORIOUS EVOLUTION SHALL COMMENCE AS PLANNED! Ekko is only a nuisance (even if a relatable one) he shall not stop the future of Mankind.

I love Noxus and the Frostguard the most and equally Noxus Represents strength and Cleverness with champions like Darius who refused to be defeated by his life on the streets and rose above all the weaklings and then there is Talon who just like Darius refused to die on the streets he chose the path of the blades shadow killing anyone who got in his way of life Then there is Cassiopeia for the sake of her ambitions she is willing to do what it takes same with Leblanc . Katarina 's loyalty to Noxus is unmatched to anyone but Darius as for Draven he is the most spectacular champion in the whole league buzz off Taric he true exceeds every other adc when it comes to bringing the pain his personality is truly enjoyable to play with overall Draven truly does it all with style Swain the true tactician i would really love to see a chess game between him and Lissandra as he's the only one i think is truly a match when it comes to tactics now Riven i do pity her it was swains brief lapse in judgment that caused her to lose some faith in Her vision of Noxus but we all know she just needs a little love from a certain general Darius ;) (Darius X Riven Forever) next is the frost guard Lissandra is a woman with a plan within a plan and won't let anyone stop her she is ice born she transcends a normal humans limits you can never win against her she is the epitome of patience she will wait as long as it takes Trundle that greedy troll is as clever as he is greedy making friends with the true Queen of the Freljord Lissandra he also possesses quite a bit of wit "you have a problem with me? join the club!"
overall Noxus shall rise and Demacia shall fall

For me it is a toss-up between Bilgewater and Ionia. I like Ionia's spirituality, but also its diverse range of champions. (Syndra, Karma, Yasuo, etc). It just feels like there's a lot of character there and different motivations.

As for Bilgewater, I'm just a sucker for pirate motifs, and many of the champions from Bilgewater are just plain interesting.

FRELJORD. Braum Nunu Olaf Sejuani Volibear SHURIMA! Azir Leona Nasus Renekton

I love the Freljord champs, specifically the winter's claw, but all of them to some extent. It's nice to have a faction that has its own civil disputes within the league, yet still hangs together, plus I love the gameplay of them as well. SHURIMA!! is just plain fun to shout.

Also, I feel obligated to mention http://leaguefations.net because... well it's fun. A lot of fun. So check it out and consider playing.

As far as lore and story goes, I gotta say that I love Noxus. The whole badass military deal and all the ongoing stories with the internal politics with Swain's rise to power, the old Noxus supporters and aristocrats, and Riven and her reformists. It's a pretty exciting story.

From a theme perspective, Shadow Isles wins hands down. The whole spooky scary vibe, the endless legion of undead, the invasions and epic clashes of the Harrowing, are all just awesome. I also really like how there is this huge aura of mystery around it, with only bits and pieces of what goes on in the Shadow Isles and what it is like being released at a time. There has been a ton of theories and investigating into all the little details, and it's just exciting to wonder how close you got to the truth.

I love Ionia due to its level of spirituality but my favourite faction has got to be the Freljord.

I may be a bit biased on this one but I'm pagan and my...patron deity is the goddess of winter, death, witchcraft but also a new start and to be honest Lissandra reminds me of Her quite a bit. The cold has always comforted me and I thrive when winter comes (I get horrible rashes from the sun due to my pale skin). As Lissandra says in her quotes -_ The world began in ice, and it will end in ice_. I like her character a lot. She knows how to win a war. She is a brilliants strategist and pasient and know how to deceive and bid her time well and I admire her qualities.

Ashe is young and naive, true, but I share her...utopic views of the world. I like peace, I wish it was possible for it to exist everywhere, but the very notion of this is foolish as it is in humans nature to strive for power and greatness. Nevertheless, a remarkable ideal and, had I not felt so drawn to Lissandra and the...Ice Age she promises to bring, I would have joined the Avarosan, without doubt.

As for Sejuani....I admire her stregth and endurance, her will to live and determination (plus she's really pretty but that is completely besides the point)

As I said, ice is comforting, the tribes are nice and I love how the result of the incoming war between the tribes can change the future of Runeterra.
