Kinda surprised that Nunu got new icons. I thought he is pretty high on the VGU list,so he does seem like a likely candidte for the next year.

Just because they do icons, doesn’t mean they won’t get a vgu soon. I imagine it’s the same as a gameplay update.

Well Gameplay updates are usually only given if there is only a low chance of the champ getting picked for a VGU anytime soon. Remember that Swains GU came ~2 years before his VGU will be released(and they purposefully avoided Evelynn for the assassin update because she was a likely candidate for 2017)

They’ve also said that Aatrox receiving an update wouldn’t affect his chances of a vgu.

my hopes are high that these are just like the splash art of warwick, urgot and eve in the past. they were updated but still, they got their vgu's. And look at nunu's Q, look at his sleeve. It looks like a diff color. Maybe this is teasing us his vgu in the future. Maybe his updated ability icons are just experiments for his initial vgu in the future.

There was still much more time between their splash updates and their VGU. Like, were their VGUs already worked on in that time? I don't think so.

Updating icons when the champ is already worked on for an update seems like wasted effort.

Additionally, I read that the next VGU is mostly played at top and jungle. Does that apply to Nunu? Does anyone play him in the top lane? I thought he is more likely to go support than to go top.

You know my stance, I hope it's Rammus. :P Got played in jungle and top in the past and fits the bill just as well as Nunu.

well if you ask me, nunu is viable/played top by some people though. not too long ago, a player in my opposing team played nunu top. And yes, nunu is better to be played as a jungle/supp too because that is his main role. Look, he is even the lowest played top champion.

And btw, i thought rammus was played jungle/supp too and not top(but maybe some plays him there like nunu) and can i see the post(links may help).

this is an evolving game, were all things must be updated. so even though they will rework some one, it doesn't mean that champ will not have any updated things given to him. I also think his icon update was in the works already months prior today but was ice box. And now its ready for shipping.

PS: warwick got a new splash june 2016, 7 months after his live VGU. NUNU received an update nov(now) and by the looks of it, the next vgu champ may come in may/june making these ability icons have a 7-8 month old and having nunu a good candidate for the next vgu.

I really like the updated icons Riot has been making these past few year. I believe they are over half-way done.
