Noxus vs Ionia

So I've been reading the lore and all, and it surprises me how Ionia defeated Noxus. With Noxus being this powerful Empire, that has defeated everyone around them except for Demacia, they invade Ionia, a spiritual and peaceful land, with no standing military (from what I know of and at the very least one that is outclassed in every way) was able to beat back the Noxian invaders, though it was a pyrrhic victory, Ionia still won.

So this leads me to believe that maybe it was like Vietnam, in that The Noxian Empire fought against Ionian guerilla fighters, and could have won in theory, but after so much fighting the Noxians were just tired, and beat up, the war being unpopular back home, they pack up and leave.

What do you all think? (p.s If this is stated to have happenend in the lore and I did not see it I apologize)

It clearly echoes to the Vietnam War obviously. Ionia is one of the most particular place on Runeterra. Not only the people, but also its wildlife, creatures, spirits. Everything is linked in harmony and the land was angry. Even if Noxus is the strongest army of Runeterra, they came mostly unprepared and unaware of many important details. They should and could have won but Darkwill underestimated Ionia and was hurried to attack them. It was bound to fail. However, now that Swain seized control of Noxus, things will change, for the better. Ionia is not a priority, since troups got called back and the land have no beneficial purpose in the times to come. Well, in fact, Ionia has a lot to offer, but not for the moment. Noxus needs more power, military assets, technology. So, their focus will be turned upon Piltover and Zaun. Once they'll take over those areas, Ionia could be considered as a mean to enhance the attribute of their technology (Hextech) and to get manpower, soldiers etc. Noxus would easily crush Ionia after that. People are divided, weakened, no backup. A childsplay for Swain.

That's actually kinda what happened. When Swain took power, he told all the Noxian troops to go home because they were losing.

So the Ionian War is just a re-telling of the Vietnam War?

Well the problem is that ionia is full of magical beings that protect the land and likely weakened the noxian armys quite a bit.
