If Braum was dating Illaoi, how would you think they'd manage?

Okay I know this ship hasn't even left the harbour but I was thinking about the two characters.

Braum seems like the guy who would go out of his way to help. Illaoi will "test" people she deems worthy.

Heck, Illaoi seems like the person to close her heart to love ("My god is not love...") while Braum is called the Heart of the Freljord for a reason.

I mean what if Braum wants some wrestling/goat rearing but Illaoi is too busy tending to Nagakaborous 's will.

I think you've all missed Illaoi's characterization. She's not inherently violent, she doesn't live to kill. She simply lives her life to the fullest, following the teachings of Nakaburos. Her ideology is that you should always live life, keep yourself on the go, always crave and seek out experiences. This is what she lives by. Those who come to her (she is a priestess after all) she tests their spirit, to see if they are worthy of her aid and that of her god. She doesn't just kill people and beat them senseless unless she's given good reason to. At most, for people approaching her or her temple, she would spar with them and test them in that manner, but again, she is a priestess, and death is not her goal; her goal is to open people up to life and experience. Because of her ideals, hedonism plays a large part in her way of looking at life and so she enjoys the company of men like Gangplank, who does live life on the edge, and she wants the company of Braum, who is a celebrated hero and strongman of his home. Compared to Braum, Illaoi's goals aren't terribly different. Braum wants to make the world a better place - so does she. Braum fights for what he believes in, like her, and he's not afraid to throw himself into the belly of danger in order to protect people, something which Illaoi greatly admires. This is why she thinks they would be a great match. And I think so too.

Yeah, you make a lot of sense here. I just think the big mismatch is the way they regard others. Braum treasures friends and compassion, that's pretty much his whole reason for being.

Illaoi doesn't seem to care much about that, she'll certainly respect people, as she clearly does with old GP and Miss Fortune, but she's not really the type to go out of her way to save or befriend someone, unless it's advantageous to her. She just doesn't seem to be the kind who's super interested in long-term relationships. Settling down, after all, is totally against her philosophy and her giant serpent god.

Illaoi is basically extremist of her religion. She tests people and destroy their life if they're weak. And she doesn't ask for it. She pushes her religion to others. It doesn't matter what her purpose is, she is harming people, That's why she is such a bigot.

Except her religion actually does have a profound effect on those that survive.

We also don't have other religions to compare it to. So we have no idea of hers is the only one where the God is real.

Plus she doesn't forcibly convert people. She only tests them, and the test is usually when they are at a crossroads in their life.

Those who fail did not have the will to live. The drive to move forward.

She's basically the villain from Saw with a religious twist. She destroys people's lives, murders them, because her God commands. Because she thinks that's reasonable to force people to undergo this near death or actual death experience.

She is honestly one of the more evil characters in the game. Not Shaco or Hecarim level, sure. But she is basically a caricature of what's wrong with medieval style religions. She may think what she's doing is good for the world, hell she may even be right. She's still evil.

Wanting to die and having the will to live are not the same thing. Living is not just surviving, it is moving your life forward. Gangplank was becoming stagnant. He was fine with just being king, and because of that he was shoved off the throne. If Illaoi was in his position, Queen of pirates and all that, that lady would of started her plans to take over the next area, and the next, and the next, and keep doing that until the day she died. She is motion, and her god(who, by the way, is real enough to take out your soul and smash it to bits) demands that all life be in motion, or to have their energy be given back to them so they can fashion something else that won't be quite as disappointing.

In other words, Necerabos says "use the energy I gave you well, or I will take it back". It doesn't care whether you give it homage or not, it wants you to live! Jinx, Gragas, and even Himerdinger are great examples of people who live according to Illoai's religion's code, yet they do not even know of it!

Illaoi's a bit too harsh for Braum, I think. One of them just wants to be everybody's pal, the other rips souls out of bodies and viciously beats them to prove their worth, which either helps or...kills them.

They could probably have a killer arm-wrestling match though. They both carry heavy objects all day.

Yeah, this sort of underlines why the pairing is stupid, despite Riot's teasing of it.

It's like one of those anime ships: there would be a lot of sexual tension between the two characters, but nothing will never happen (in this case, because their characters are too different). Braum would never be able to watch Illaoi beating the living soul out of someone: he would immediately intervene, because, even though he might understand her reasons, he won't accept her methods.
