"Very Non-Traditional" Marksman Theories Thread

Wanted to wait and see if we were going to get anymore news about this champion before making this, but I think its better to post this sooner rather than later on the off chance that the marksman gets actual teasers instead of just getting straight up revealed. I enjoy some good speculation. Knowing my luck, though, something is going to be posted about them as soon as I post this thread. Just kidding, of course, but just imagine if that happened. I'd be disappointed. All this work for nothing. https://nexus.leagueoflegends.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/05_Teaser-HalfFrames_794d3985l76z6z0foz4f.gif Anyway, here are all the current theories I have seen for the "Very Non-Traditional" Marksman.

  • The Shadow Isles Theory: This theory states that this new marksman is from the Shadow Isles, due to the dark setting of the teaser and the seeming use of dark magic. The patterns on the wall also seem to bare resemblance to Ixtal architecture(more on this later), the Ixtal having influenced the Blessed Isles long before the Ruination.

  • The Senna Theory: Building on the Shadow Isles theory, this theory states that this new marksman is Senna, free from Thresh's lantern, but changed. This comes from the seeming use of light magic as well as dark magic in the teaser. Senna and Lucian, as we know, used weapons that fired a similar light to defeat to defeat the creatures of the mist, among other things. However, we also know that Senna's gun is now in Lucian's possession, so perhaps Senna is now using some other weapon or just general magic.

  • The Ledros Theory: Building off of the Shadow Isles theory, this theory states that the new marksman is Ledros from The Echos Left Behind. This wouldn't be the first time a new champion was teased in a story, after all, but why it was released so early on if it is a teaser is beyond me.

  • The Ixtal Theory: This theory states that this new marksman is another Ixtal champion. This theory is based off of the patterns on the wall, which again, seem to resemble Ixtal architecture.

  • The Targon/Lunari Theory: The newest theory I've seen, this theory states that the new marksman is from Targon and a member of the Lunari. This comes from Pantheon's VO, where he has a quote specifically for the Lunari. However, Diana isn't the only one that triggers it. Zoe does too, as she is also a Lunari. However, this does not rule out the possibility that the marksman is another Lunari.

  • NEW: The Shurmia Theory: This theory states that the marks man is from Shurima, due to the seemingly ancient and dusty look of the the background in the teaser, as well as the use of brown/gold instead of colors normally associated with the architecture of the Blessed/Shadow Isles.

  • NEW: The Icathia Theory: Building off of the Shurima theory, this theory states that the marksman is from Icathia, as some Icathians have actually survived(though they are in stasis thanks to Zilean). There also appears to be a purple tint to the dark matter in the teaser which may indicate a connection to the Void, which as we know, took over the Icathian Peninsula.

Did I miss any? Have any of these already been ruled out? Got your own theories? Go on, discuss everything! That's what this thread is for.

I love the Lunari theory. Fingers crossed for Diana getting a new companion. [sg-jinx]

You fail to mention one of if not the strongest theory, in my opinion: Icathia.

There is a purple tint in the matter that's being blasted, suggesting something to do with the void in my opinion, and with the Zilean lore we've learnt that Icathians have actually survived, although in a stasis.

But surely Jax and Zilean aren't the only Icathians left? I think there's room for more!

Zilean lore was also released, but this isn't much for evidence. It could possibly be setting up for something though.

In my opinion the stone is too yellow for Blessed Isles, and there's too much gold to really pass it off as non-Shuriman.

You descriptions are always well thought out! Amazing work here! (I think Ledros also)

A few months ago I made a theory on Reddit that the new champion could be some sort of dragon based on the fact that the markings on the teaser looked Ixtali and that when the name "Aphelios" was supposedly leaked there seemed to be two Aurelions and their names sound similar so I speculated that maybe the other Aurelion was like a very early test of the champion's kit using Aurelion's assets before being moved to his own slot but the more I though about it the less it seemed likely however now I have a new theory and thankfully I found this thread. Looking back at the teaser , my post and now this thread I agree the markings look more to be from the blessed isles especially because of the black mist, but my theory is also based on some other things: 1.- The Skin Lines. So far every new champion has been shoved into whatever current event has been going on at the moment, looking back at the Dev Diary where they announced which skin lines would be coming back the only one that is missing so far is Star Guardian which makes me think the new champ will most likely be shoved into that line and therefore will probably be female. 2.- "Non-Traditional Marskman". Last time I said I couldn't think of a light-slinging champion that would feel too different from Lucian, Ezreal or Kai'Sa so a dragon would, but that was based on appearances not gameplay. But maybe it's not meant to feel too visualy different from those, maybe it's in fact meant to be similar to certain champion we already know: Lucian. I think we may be getting Senna as the new champion, somehow having escaped Thresh's lantern and gaining some light powers for herself, with the non-traditional part of her design being that she can benefit from being played with other marskmen, sort of like an Enchanter ADC all so she can be played along with Lucian. That's my theory, that doesn't explain the "Aphelios" part but it was fun speculating.

I'm feeling Shurima vibes from this gif teasing

Maybe related to some lurking entity from the past, or below

Shadow isles haven't received love in awhile so they'd probably be looking to expand on that imo Would love to see a Piltover ADC tho

Updated the post to include the Shurima and Icathia theories. I unfortunately don't think I can edit the poll though, so if you want to support either the Shurima or the Icathia theory, just vote "none of the above/other."

Another small update. Zoe does, in fact, trigger Pantheon's Lunari interaction, so its not just Diana.

Would love to see another Shuriman character and would wonder what kind of weapon a marksman from Shurima would wield.

It doesnt have that dark&decayed feel that the shadow isles usually has, instead it seems ancient and dusty....to me.

Shurima/Targon seems about right.
