Champion Concept: Alaric, The Hand

This is my first champion concept I've made that will actually reach the eyes of the internet, all driven by the CCOS! (Link here for those interested: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/TeRqTxRI-ccos-june-ccos-entry-time-enter-here) Don't be afraid to be a little harsh on the criticisms, I'd rather directly know about an issue than need to assume because people want to spare my feelings.

#Inspiration Alaric has been bouncing around my head as several distinct pieces for quite some time. I wanted a proper magic damage brawler since Diana ended up as more of a diver/assassin, I've always been a sucker for the drifter/traveler type, and for as long as I could remember wanted to create a proper villain of Demacian origin rather than continue the tradition of heroes or elitists (Looking at you, Fiora). After the recent Demacian lore release all the bits and ideas in my head started to tumble into place. Lux's story provided the perfect example of the ways that Demacian culture could alienate or harm its citizens, but her privileged standing allowed her to find a place in Demacia where she could still use her magic and be a member of her nation. But what if someone poor, unloved by the masses, and who had worked themselves ragged to earn their place in Demacia was discovered to be a mage? What if instead of gaining support and steeling their resolve, they were exiled, embittered, and vengeful? How would their strong will and massive effort that had previously been committed to Demacia be redirected? From this string of thought, Alaric was born.

#Appearance Alaric is the portrait of a drifter. After his flight from Demacia he roamed Runeterra for years, gradually becoming more and more of an anarchist. He wears an old, worn travelers cloak whose faded colors showcase its Demacian origins. White darkened by the years into a muddy grey with sun-bleached blue accents and tarnished metal fasteners. Peering out from under his hood are two grey eyes that despite clearly being worn from exhaustion still have a sharp gleam about them that hints at the strong will underneath. His skin has a light tan, but it is offset by his somewhat sickly appearance. His face is framed by a short beard and moustache, and a mane of wavy, shoulder-length dark hair. Dirt stained wraps tightly cover his hands, above which are badly beaten petricite-infused forearm gauntlets, their usual bright white having dulled to make them appear much more stone-like serve as a permanent and painful reminder of where he came from. Thick, faded brown leather boots/greaves, well-worn, cover his feet.
He wields a hardened wooden staff, doubling as both a hiking stick and a versatile weapon. It is relatively plain, badly nicked and wrapped with dingy cloth. At its top is a metal club, pitted from years of use. (For reference, wukong has a somewhat similar weapon, albeit much more ornate and less functional. If I am able to do a sketch of him that satisfies me I'll post it.

Attack Range: 175 Units (Melee)

##Passive: Entropic Mana After using a spell or ability Alaric's next basic attack applies a stacking DoT dealing 25 (100 at level 18) (+20% Ability Power) magic damage per stack over 4 seconds. He can hold up to 2 of these basic attacks at a time. Deals 50% Bonus damage to large and epic monsters. Max stacks on enemy: 4 (DOES NOT APPLY SPELL EFFECTS)

##Q: Trip up Cooldown: 20/18/16/15/15 seconds.
Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 Mana Active: Alaric swings his staff to trip enemy champions in a cone in front of him, briefly stunning them (.75-1.5 seconds), and knocking them down if applicable. Deals 5/6/7/8/10% of targets current HP in true damage. (+1% per 100 AP.) (Range: 475, Angle 90 degrees) Passive: Alaric gains 5/5/10/10/15% Movement speed per stack towards champions afflicted with entropic mana,

##W: Outburst Cooldown: 15/13/11/9/7 seconds.
Cost:_ 20/30/40/50/50 _ Mana Lunge at all targets in line, dealing 20/40/60/80/100 (+15% Ability Power) magic damage as well as physical damage equal to 100% of his total Attack Damage. Applies spell effects, on-hit effects and one stack of** Entropic Mana** (If any stacks are currently being held). Holds up to 3 charges. If any stacks of Entropic Mana are present on a target hit, Alaric heals for 25-100 (+20% Ability power) over 4 seconds. The heal stacks up to five times. (Cooldown on heal proc per target: 10s) (Range 200, Angle 50 Degrees)

##E: Vent Mana Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 seconds
** Cost**: 80/90/100/110 _ Mana Alaric unleashes a burst of toxic mana from his body, cleansing all crowd control effects and creating Twisted Earth that persists for 4 seconds. Enemies on the Twisted Earth are slowed by _ 70/70/70/70/90%, decaying over 2 seconds after they exit the area. Twisted Earth refreshes existing stacks of Entropic Mana every 1 second. (Radius 250/350/450/550/550)

##R: Sunder Cooldown: 150/120/90 seconds
Cost: 100/125/150 Mana Alaric vaults through the air to target champion, becoming untargetable, instantly applying a stack of Entropic Mana and dealing 150/250/350 (+25/30/35% missing HP) magic damage. A massive cone of twisted earth erupts behind the target, dealing 50/70/100 magic damage to all enemies hit and copying the stacks of Entropic Mana from the initial target. If Sunder kills the initial target, the cone persists for 4 seconds, applying a stack of Entropic Mana every .75 seconds to enemy champions. (Dash range: 700 units) (Cone Range: 1100 Units, Angle 75 degrees)

#Discussion Alaric is mage whose magic has grown uncontrollable due to years of repression and resentment. He cannot contain his power and as such he releases discordant mana uncontrollably into targets that he comes in contact with. He is a skilled melee fighter and combined with tactful use of his overflowing magic he becomes a force to be reckoned with. Alaric wants to get into his enemies faces and beat them down with his close-quarters aoe damage whilst the deceptively high damage from his passive eats at them from the inside. Alaric excels in drawn out battles so he can spread his Entropic Mana to as many targets as possible. He is extremely susceptible to chained crowd control and burst damage, as his self heals are all done over time and he needs to get very close in order to deal damage.

Lacking any form of mobility for engagement outside of early uses of his ult, he focuses on punishing enemies who enter his range with the frequent Magic Damage from W: Outburst and his synergy with Ability Power On-Hit items. Q: Trip Up and E: Vent Mana allow him to stick to a fleeing target or attempt to turn a fight if used properly. By rooting an enemy with Q inside of the area created by his E, Alaric is able to extend the damage from his stacks of Entropic mana by at least 25%.

Before level 6 Alaric will have a difficult time trading in lane due to his lack of range and his reliance on items to deal damage. He relies heavily on stacking Entropic Mana with his W and disengaging with Q and E. Four stacks of Entropic mana will deal at minimum 100 magic damage plus 80% Ability power over four seconds, potentially turning around a fight or unfavorable trade.

Throughout lane phase Alaric will need to carefully manage his mana, as overuse of his W will quickly leave him drained of resources and extremely vulnerable to counterattacks.

Lategame Alaric will be a powerful fighter, able to dish out tons of damage from close quarters before finishing a foe off with his ultimate. If he manages to kill a fully stacked foe with his ultimate and he gets four stacks on the remaining members of the team, not only will they be taking large amounts of damage but they will need to quickly regroup in order to prevent him from using his increased movement speed to pick them off.

Alaric will need to choose between holding his ultimate for use as an execute or using it to try and get into range of a kiting opponent.

Items that would likely be core to his damage build would be Lich Bane item 3100 , Nashors Toothitem 3115 , and Rod of Ages item 3027. Afterwards he would need to decide between building resistances like Abyssal Mask item 3001, which would scale well with his passive on top of providing MR, whilst Dead Man's Plate item 3742 would provide him with some resists and extra mobility for getting into range to bring the hurt to the other team. Other items that could work are Rylai's Crystal Scepter item 3116 and Wit's Enditem 3091.

#Lore Across Runeterra there have been rumblings of someone, or something, marking symbols of power and the houses of nobles with a magically burned handprint. A mark pushed directly into stone, wood, metal, accomplished by directly injecting unstable mana into the object. Few know his name, and those who do fear to speak it, lest its cold, driven owner decide that they should be silenced. Simply called "The Hand" by most, he has left his mark in Noxus, Shurima, and Ionia. Assassins and bounty hunters sent to track him down all wind up unidentifiable, badly beaten and burnt to death from the inside.

Now, a mark has appeared on the walls surrounding the Demacian city of High Silvermere, along with a warning.

I am Demacia's reckoning.


Alaric is a Demacian mage, born to a poor family in a small village on the outskirts of the nations territory, he worked with his mother to collect the resources required to fill Demacia's immense need of petricite. His father was an ex-soldier, having been removed from service after losing his legs to an enemy mage during a skirmish. As such, he was raised in an environment with an intense loathing of magic, and provided with exactly what he needed to repress his own gifts.

He carried on like this for years, his father providing him with standard Demacian military training in hopes that he would be able to find a better life for himself. Alaric put his all into learning combat and into his pride as a Demacian. It kept him focused on something other than the magic that so desperately yearned for release. When he managed to start taking professional combat lessons he rapidly surpassed his peers through his constant practice and commitment. He didn't let himself have any time to think, he was constantly either training or working with his mother harvesting the trees for petricite. He loathed his gift and hated himself for having it, all he could do to make up for it was make himself useful to his nation, and take the secret with him to the grave.

Keeping it hidden eventually proved to be impossible. Years of hatred and suppression caused his mana to change, to compound on itself and become twisted. The inside of his body became like a well of mana that could do nothing but destroy. It was like a deadly poison to the world, and on when he finally had an opportunity to put his skills to use as a member of the Dauntless Vanguard, his control failed him. He was struck by an arrow and his control faltered, magical energy springing forth into the very ground he walked on and harming friend and foe alike. He was exiled. The faces of the people who had seen such promise in him, even his own parents, became clouded with disgust at the very sight of him on his final days. He kept the petricite gauntlets on him at all times in order to punish himself and prevent his magic from bursting forth again.

His life had been torn away from him. The nation that he had committed everything he had in order to protect had thrown him away like trash, even driving his own parents to despise him. He had nothing now but the clothes on his back and the gift that had destroyed his life. Alaric spent several years wandering Runeterra as his magic continued to grow and become twisted by his self-loathing. As he roamed he was able to learn about other cultures, and to see what people who were not under the thumb of Demacia were like. The more he learned, the more his resentment grew. People were not naturally terrified of magic, and they would not all throw their own family away so easily. He did not blame the common people for his exile, but he came to see it as an exercise of power by the Demacian nobles in order to maintain their authority. By keeping the people thoughtlessly loyal and constantly promising protection and order, the Demacian nobility had shrunk the world of their people, expecting them to sacrifice everything for a nation that would throw them away like garbage. Alaric's drive had returned, but with a different purpose. To people he seemed to be gentle and kind, but he was driven by a cold anger which led him to tear down anyone who stood in his way.

During his travels his magic made close association impossible. All he could use it for was to destroy, and controlling it was extremely difficult. Things and people he touched were all in danger of his deadly magic seeking to escape and fill the world. It made his resolve all the stronger. He would destroy those who enslaved the people around them. After some trial runs in Noxus and in one Ionian village he knew it was time for him to return home. He knows that after his work he would be put to death for his crimes, but if he succeeds then the people would tear the nobility from their roosts and discover just how much more the world has to offer.

Good job, I like it! I think you should nerf his damage a tiny bit though. He would be horrible to trade against in laning phase lol.
