[Champion Concept] Corviin - The Master of Chance

INTRODUCTION As far as the LoL meta goes, there's a strong lack of pre-6 power-spike champions, especially in the AP department. Level 6 is the traditional spike for champions due to level 6 being the earliest you can upgrade the ultimate ability, but by scaling down the power of this ability (Udyr, Jayce, Karma) you can lower the power spike to 3 or 4. What I've tried to create is a champion that has an average laning phase, followed by a huge power spike before the enemy laner has their own spike, followed by an average mid-game and a strong late-game. By scaling his passive with his level, Corviin has the late game component all set, and by reducing the power of his fourth ability, as mentioned above, he also has a very significant power spike at level 4.

ABILITIES Corviin - The Master of Chance (working title)

  • Passive: (2 parts)

  • 1 Roll the Dice - Corviin has a (2 x champion level)% chance for any of his abilities to deal 150% damage.

  • 2 Double Down - Corviin possesses two magical dice, named Pyra and Qor, that have magical properties. Pyra is damage-focused while Qor is cc-focused. If Pyra strikes a target within 1.5 seconds of either die striking the same target, Pyra will "crit" for 150% damage. If Qor procs this ability, the target will be stunned for the duration of "Qor" ability instead of slowed. This effect for each die has a 3 second cooldown, respectively; more specifically, empowered Pyra cannot proc more than once in a 3 second window, as is the same for Qor. These cooldowns are, however, independent of each other, and would have a ring for each die around the target (similar to Nautilus's passive stun) to demonstrate the time remaining.

  • Q(5 ranks): Pyra - Corviin rolls a fiery die from it's previous location (Corviin's person or a spot on the ground) to a target location, dealing magic damage and burning enemies hit. (Think of a Viktor E mixed with an Orianna Q)

  • W(4 ranks): Close to the Chest - Corviin recalls both dice back to him, procing both dice's effects on enemies hit as they travel to him, granting him a small speed boost (20/25/30/35%) for each die recalled.

  • E(5 ranks): Qor - Corviin throws a frozen die from it's previous location to a target location, dealing a small amount of magic damage and slowing enemies hit for 1/1.2/1.4/1.6/2.

  • R(4 ranks): Higher Stakes -

  • Passive: Increases the chance of Roll the Dice by 10/15/20/25%.

  • Active: Pyra and Qor swap places and guarantees Roll the Dice on the next ability within 2 seconds.

POTENTIAL COMBOS

  • E(slow) -> R(stun and crit) -> Q -> W(run)
  • E(slow) -> Q(crit) -> W(stun and run)
  • Q -> R(stun and crit) ->

RECOMMENDED BUILD PATH Morellonomicon -> Sorcerer's Shoes -> Luden's Echo -> Rylai's Crystal Scepter -> Rabadon's Death Cap -> Zhonya's/Void Staff/Abyssal Scepter.

CAVEATS AND ADDITIONAL COMMENTS Since both "Close to the Chest" (W) and "Higher Stakes" (R) require that at least one die be on the field, they will not be enabled until level 2, much like Zilean's W.

As far as lore goes, I pictured this guy as being one of the "Rat Pack" that Vi and Jinx were a part of while growing up, hence the name Corviin. He's a risk taker and a protege under Twisted Fate's wing.

I believe Corviin should be able to dole out sustained damage and have decent poke in lane, but should still have strong bursting capabilities. Also, much like an Orianna ball, the dice would need to recall to Corviin after he reaches a certain distance from him, lest the first-time players leave their dice on opposite sides of the map.

I see Corviin as having short cooldowns, a small mana pool, and a high mana regeneration rate. This would add to his character of being a strong burst mage, but should also prevent him from being able to constantly spam abilities during a team fight without buying an Archangel's Staff, which would reduce his potential power and prolong his item spike greatly.

This is also a very mechanically challenging champion concept, as many new players have a hard enough time playing Orianna for the first time. Micro-managing two separate entities (three if you count the player himself) will require a great deal of visual optimization to make sure the player has a very clear understanding of the position of all three elements. The ranges of his abilities would also stand to prove troublesome, since he is designed to be a burst mage, but leaving his ability with incredibly large range would make him untouchable in a team fight, especially with the potential for a 5-man crit + stun combo.

EDITS EDIT 1: First and foremost, my summoner name changed from igrad (original post) to Scurvy Doge, so keep that in mind while reading comments, etc.

  • Changing Higher Stakes from "Pyra and Qor swap places and increases the chance of Roll the Dice by 5/10/15/20% for 2 seconds" (not a very reliable, solid ability) to a more consistent ability.

  • Changing Double Down proc time to 1.5 seconds from 2 seconds. 2 seconds is a very forgiving window, which would leave the target vulnerable for a rather long time. Reducing this timer should help to reduce Corviin's AOE threat a bit, allowing him to focus on whichever remaining targets are vulnerable.

  • Adding visual indicator to Roll the Dice passive to show the player two things:

  • Time remaining on ability to proc empowered Pyra or Qor on the target

  • Time remaining to proc Double Down after using Higher Stakes

  • Added a few comments and cleaned up other sections

  • Organized the post a bit better

I like the sound of this. This sounds like a cool concept.

Cool concept, but I think Corvin's ult should do more. For example, increase the chance of Roll the Dice passively, and having a different active. Or the same active, just longer and give it a passive. Because if your Roll the Dice doesn't go off, it would be a waste. This is just my opinion, again, super cool concept, just it would suck if you used your ult and it didn't do much.

If Pyra and Qor swapped places with Higher Stakes, could the switch cause the dice to kind of "detonate", dealing damage and allowing their effects to proc, or something along those lines? Small idea, really, but it might be needless. This concept is kind of neat, a lot of active manipulation can be made while fighting with a kit like this. I can see Corviin wielding two dice tied together with string, and he could be kind of mid range (like mini-Gnar) and wack people with them. The abilities could project a magical manifestation of the dice, which Corviin manipulates. (Just laying down the general look and feel of his kit the way I'm imagining it.) But yeah, this sounds solid and fun as frick to me. One note on Pyra's on hit passive: Considering you have a chance to deal 150% damage anyway, could this compound into 150% of 150% damage? If not, maybe Pyra could deal extra damage based on the enemy's max health or something. Pyra is centered on destruction, while Qor is bound with hexes TwistedFate "Looks like fate has given me a difficult hand to play."
