Champion Concept: The Ruined King
This is an idea based on the Shadow Isles, The Ruined King. In the lore of the Shadow Isles, we have all heard how it got started because of The Ruined King and his quest. I thought (if Riot already doesn't have their own ideas) on how to make The Ruined King as a playable champion.
First before I get started on this, I will state I am not good with getting the actual numbers down. These are all rough estimations that would be best left to people who know how to actually balance champions. Also names are place holders.
When we look at the lore of the Shadow Isles and The Ruined King, we see a king driven mad by the death of his queen flamed on by the rumors from servants (Hecarim). The Ruined King in his grief goes with Hecarim, Kalista, and his knights to a holy land only to corrupt it because of the Ruined King's madness sending everything into a land of undeath. Which we know as the Harrowing, comes around every October.
Base Concepts _- King and his Servants.
- Can cast some magic (This is how the Ruined King started the black mist).
- King going into madness.
- Has a sword (Blade of the Ruined King), so melee.
- Bruiser/Engages (Gets involved in his quest personally, rather than let his servants do all the work). _
Passive, Growing Corruption - Every time the Ruined King successfully lands a basic attack he gains a stack of corruption. After he gains 3 stacks of corruption his next basic attack will do an additional % of the targets current HP as magic damage and will empower his next basic ability.
Spectral Charge (No Cost), 15 second cooldown, 500 dash range (Skill Shot) - The Ruined King charges in a straight line stopping at the first champion hit and slowing all targets hit. Empowered - Same effect as Spectral Charge and summons two Spectral Knights that follow the Ruined King for 6 seconds and attack the same target as the Ruined King dealing magic damage on hit.
Notes - Specters can go through walls, so can this charge. Has a decent cooldown, meant to use as engage or escape not both.
Whispering Madness (% Current HP cost), 11 second cooldown - Creates a % Max HP shield that lasts for 4 seconds. While the shield is active the Ruined King is slowed by %15. Empowered - Same effect as Whispering Madness and gives the Ruined King 10% lifesteal while the shield is active.
Notes - When you're losing your mind and descending into darkness you ignore everything advice, logic, damage. You also don't move very fast as you are thinking alot of paranoid internal thoughts. As for the % lifesteal, the Blade of the Ruined King has lifesteal as well as I decided to make alot of the Ruined Kings abilities cost HP so it made sense as well as gave him some sustain at the cost of being easier to hit.
Harrowing Mist (% Max HP cost), 13 second cooldown, 150 radius around the Ruined King - Releases tendrils of the black mist causing all enemies around the Ruined King to flee in fear for 2 seconds. Empowered - Same effect as Harrowing Mist and Harrowing Mist applies a % Max HP DoT and Grievous Wounds for the duration of the fear.
Note - Since the Ruined King had some kind of control over magic, figured his undead visage would allow him to control his creation, the black mist, which causes everyone in Runeterra to run with fright.
Black Origin (% Current HP), 120/100/80 second cooldown, 1000 Target Range (Skill Shot) - Dash to and grab the first enemy champion hit rooting them into place and briefly pulling all enemy champions in a 400 radius range around the affected enemy champion every 1 second for 3 seconds before exploding for a large amount of magic damage.
Note - "Repulsed at what he had done to his beloved wife, the king enacted a spell to end their lives and bind them together for all eternity. His conjuration was successful, but unwittingly empowered by the many potent magical artifacts stored on the island, its power was increased a hundredfold. A hurricane of black mist surrounded the king, spreading across the island and killing everything it touched." - Hecarim backstory
This was how the black mist was born, in a giant explosion of death that spread to the surrounding area leaving no place for escape. The Ruined King binds himself to his target setting off a large magical energy that explodes as black mist. This was the idea behind the ultimate ability.
Overview Notes - The overall concept is to make a melee bruiser that dives in to get up close and personal, but once his abilities have been used to engage he has no room to escape. Great at starting team fights (He his a leader after all). Down side is that while he may deal alot of percentage based damage his abilities also cost percentage based HP, so building him tankier is going to be a must. He also loses some of his damage if he uses his engage to run away and is easier to gank while his shield is up.
Yorick, is the only one in complete control over The Black Mist. I think the King is injected with the Queen's desire for him to live after offering the entire well being of his kingdom, and himself, to revive her--even if she became an abomination--so the elements of The Black Mist in the King is a means to protect his life.
Olaf and
Tryndamere too much. Instead I made him like a raid boss, one with a three-story tall sword to make it painstakingly clear how powerful he is.
