Hey Riot, Why Are The Women In Your Game Mostly Sex Objects Despite Having No Real Reason To?

GingerLoops··6 votes·1,513 views

So I've played 645 games this season as of this post, so I've seen some of your recent skins and played around a lot of them. I've also played as 99 champions in pvp and roughly 130~ in bots games. Now as a male player I've noticed that it seems there's a LOT of attractive females skins and champs and I never paid much attention to it because I assumed it went both ways. But it really egregiously doesn't Riot. Now It seems to me that you disproportionately sexualize female characters more than male but that seems like a broad statement so allow me to specify: You made 3 female characters whose lore literally includes and promotes being seductive and hotAhri Evelynn Elise despite no male character even coming close to matching that lore and the fact that I can't even find one male character with some kind of seductive or even succubus adjacent lore. But ya know let's give you the benefit of the doubt and say that society doesn't really have male characters like that nearly as much as they do female. Well then I guess that's it, thank god you didn't make female characters who have no succubus-adjacent lore seem slutty or wear skimpy clothing.Janna MissFortune Sona Jinx Caitlyn Leblanc NidaleeKatarina Kayle Cassiopeia Kaisa Qiyana Neeko Morgana Syndra Zyra Akali

Yeah so I was kidding there. At this point though I would like to focus specifically on Janna![Janna](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Janna.png) , Miss Fortune![MissFortune](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/MissFortune.png) and Nidalee![Nidalee](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Nidalee.png) because I'm sitting here reading their little Bios and nowhere does it indicate a reason that Janna is in her bra and panties, you already know why Miss Fortune in there and why Nidalee is also wearing basically nothing and even her skins are almost nothing, the Pharaoh one is completely wrong and inaccurate to what female Pharaohs actually wore and then there's french maid. These three are picked out not only for the skimpy looks but also in game the voicelines and dances all indicate that these women are horny. Like to contest this? please hit Ctrl+3 on Janna and Nid and describe the dance with using the word "pole". But hey, WW does the thriller and Talon does a moonwalk crotch grab and neither of them had a "Neverland" type of documentary for their crimes so dances don't really represent a champion right? So maybe Nidalee and her pole dance aren't THAT bad, except that a lot of her lines don't sound aggressive and hunt-like, instead it sounds like she's hunting for d**(you choose whether that's for ![Neeko](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Neeko.png) or![Rengar](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Rengar.png) ) and Janna also has a weirdly uncharacteristic tone that sounds more like eve than someone standing for what's right like Garen. And again, don't even get me started on![MissFortune](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/MissFortune.png). But in all seriousness these are 3 non-skimpy female champions that for some reason get really really sexually objectified(coincidentally Miss Fortune and her skins sell really well)

But hey, sometimes a female may get a little skimped up, it ain't sexist if the same thing happens to male characters right? Pantheon's how now so sexism is solved guys they're treated equal. Except it doesn't because almost every female character has something to some degree sexualized so frankly it isn't even closed to balanced because ya might be able to point out 6 or so guys that seem hot but that doesn't even compare to the female roster of hoes. But let's take it back to ![Ahri](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Ahri.png) ![Evelynn](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Evelynn.png) ![Elise](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.21.1/img/champion/Elise.png) the holy trinity of justified hot characters, and it's fine if the lore correlates but that's not the reason these champs sorta represent the "women are just objects" mentality. These three exists but no male equivalent exists and thus it shows that when riot thinks of a champ, who has to be hot and seductive all three times they were female and they always will be, despite eve having the possibility of looking male we never see it ever. This doesn't just say "women are objects" it says "when we think of a sexual object, we just can't use men". Frankly this kinda thing seems small but it says a lot about where their heads are at and what Riot thinks of not only their own characters but their playerbase. This is clearly marketed to young men despite many female players also love league of legends and it's kinda weird to hear "man I love her but she's so slutty" whenever me and my female friends try to relate to characters because I LOVE Pyke and my friends try to relate and they had Kayle but her rework left her with thicc thighs pronounce breasts and hips that do not lie and now she seems too much like a sex object to relate to.(Also on a side note this phenomenon in video games is a common cause of dysphoria where people don't like their own bodies leading to disorders like anorexia, so good on ya Riot, the gift that keeps on puking)

Thank god we have skins and new content that improve upon that kinda stuff leaving only older stuff sexist. Except I mentioned the Kayle thing and then there was Kai'sa with a skin tight body suit and deep V-neck and then Neeko wearing little clothes despite being able to shapeshift them on and of course Qiyana, the first Latina in the game, thank god she wasn't in any way enabling a racial stereotype. By this point the sarcasm is tacky so I'm gonna get on with it. Seriously despite multiple promises and employee purging it seems Riot loves a good buttocks. Kayle was personally the most puzzling because nobody knew she was a female character and was shocked meaning her outfit didn't make it obvious, then she was reworked and is obviously a feminine champion. Now the skin line thing is actually interesting because sometimes it's real subtle like have ya ever noticed no female project character has their face fully covered? Or how all the Christmas skins have the human females in sexy Santa costumes with only Braum in one too? or If you look close enough Fiora, Caitlyn and Miss Fortune are showing massive cleavage? It's small things like that that separate men and women in the game. Men look cool and women look hot, end of story. So maybe the new content isn't all sexy bikinis but that fact that they continue to release content like that shows more than once they changed nothing when they promised less slutty characters in league.

Now I a mere Pyke and Galio main so maybe I'm the smartest guy in the world and I could come up with a few solutions like with every rework comes a quick visual update on just the base playermodel on a champ but it wouldn't be as good as team of developers within the Riot headquarters so if you can't tell what I specifically want, it's: a slow and gradual change to older champs and skins to make them less sexualized and going forward they become equally sexualized as male champs or not at all.

In the end it doesn't really matter. I could make this 50 pages long going into far too deep detail how Riot is super sexist and misogynistic but if the game is so big with 70 million players and so many of these champs are just way too sexualized one post isn't gonna do anything. So if a rioter reads this, give me a great counter argument and I'll change some parts of my post if they're wrong and if you play league and don't feel the same way you're just as free to call me wrong, stupid and a libtard despite my mostly conservative values. If you agree I ask that you just put down you own experience and give further points to talk about. All in all these are my thoughts and it's what I believe and there isn't much to be done to change it.

Many of them were designed in the earlier era of League when female characters usually only ever exist as sex objects. I mean, we all remember that Janna was a walking phone sex joke, and Caitlynn wearing that questionable outfit despite being an upstanding and in fact seemingly overly serious cop (and her W's name is racist, especially when back then Yordle was an actual race on Runeterra before Riot re-wrote them into more abstract entities. Still ehhhh tho). That trend probably continued to about Season 3 so yeah we have a lot of female characters covered on that period.

In terms of female portrayals nowadays, Riot has gotten a lot better since they're actual people now.

Well, save for that guy who insists on making female characters all as sexy models in spandex as shown in their flex in Kai'Sa and Kayle.

Evelynn is a special case, since she's a sex demon so obviously she's going to be extremely sexual (and it's kind of funny that Riot wanted to keep the game rated for T so they contrively reason that Eve doesn't actually have sex with her victims lmao; I think she still could if she wanted to, but she doesn't and she kinda just touches them and kills them that's it. Where's the hentai that features overtly sexual girls turning out to be actually really reserved in bed when you need them?). Blame our ancestors making succubus such a big deal.

Evelynn can't have sex and is actually a virgin. Riot confirmed that she doesn't have any sexual organs.

That's like saying Tahm Kench doesn't actually have digestive organs. That's a bit contrived.

Not sure what good this serves since that's essentially just to dodge the R18 tag and I guess avoiding to make some people sad because they want Eve as their waifu but doesn't want """""""""used goods""""""""" or some shit (urgh that mentality; but really tho, who the hell have a succubus waifu and expect them to be virgin? Who knows.).

But hey, good to know.

Well, I mean, she doesn't really need to have sex with her victims anyway. She feeds off of agony and just uses lust to lure her prey.

Because it does not give her any benefit. She only feels something while hurting others... not giving them pleasure.

Raping someone is actually often way to show absolute dominance, now she could rape them without organs, but surely it would be easier with them.

People should be introduced to the glorious concept of "femdom".

But really tho, female rapist and sexual predators who rape men or boys certainly exist and is certainly not in negligible numbers. And pretending they don't and is not a problem is not doing anyone a favour.

Granted I would prefer a massive discussion of Evelyn and whether or not she has sex to be not on this particular post this is a pretty good example of the mentality that is incredibly toxic and is a big driver of stuff like this. "Not doing anyone a favor" is an understatement because men committing suicide has risen in the past couple of decades. Feeling inferior is a large cause of this and it sometimes stems from being raped by women(statistics like these are difficult to track as many of the examples of this are seen in posts so the number of these suicides might be bigger than it's being presented) because society thinks it means the man is weak or just in general isn't "enough"

I've heard horror story about men who were raped and walked into a police station to report it, and the cops be like "were they hot tho, you lucky shit."

That's pretty much how most men treat fellow men being raped, especially by women.

This mentality effectively lets female rapists get away (and in the worst way where it's not even the rapist hushing you, but your peers and the people who are supposed to help you; mind you, this effect is extremely bad in the case with female adult raping a young boy, their victimisation is often celebrated by peers as something spectacular) and also prevent male victims from accessing actual help. It's pretty bad, if not horrifying.

Kinda a belated reply, but yeah seeing you've only ever used Boards twice and the last time was 3 years ago I can tell you why there aren't "more people".

Because they've mostly been bullied away. It's pretty simple as that.

I mean, why do you think most online spaces have been taken over by assholes lmao? Any poster moderation will be decried "draconian", and leaving it as it is means it's inevitable that bullies will rule the playground. Which route does most forums choose? Ofc the latter because they at least want to look good since both scenarios stink anyway so why not choose one you at least feel a bit better in.

Me? I post here because I have posting addiction and this is the only platform I use.

This place is a cesspool, as is most online spaces today where bandwagon is the norm, outrage is the routine, misinformation is truth, and bad faith debates fill the air. You best run away as fast as you can before you've sunk too deep.

Why do the top female streamers on twitch wear revealing tops despite having no real reason to? Do they all live in apartments with high temperatures and no ac? HMMMM or maybe there's some strategic reason, and they clearly don't mind using this strategy for commercial reasons.

This is honestly such a pointless argument and a waste of time. Just like female streamers, artists are free to design their characters how they like. The community for the most part has accepted these designs. So quit trying to create an issue where one does not exist.

Pointless? You just made a case where the playerbase of the game enables women to even use themselves as sexual objects leaning further into a separation of genders. Look you can call it pointless, but the issue exists because it does affect how women are viewed and are treated.

ChrisBrownze2 votes

Im sorry what's wrong with enabling them? Also, are you seriously attempting to blame the playerbase for women that choose to make an easy buck by showing their "assets" on the internet.

Perhaps the issue stems from the idea that if female streamers show "assets" they give the impression that that is how to succeed in life and influences how some women think of themselves and sometimes making those without "assets" feel inferior and dysphoric. It still seems wrong and Riot shouldn't enable this behavior.

Do most people choose to pursue a higher education and getting loaded by student debt? After all, higher education isn't legally required so no one is being forced to do it and they choose it out of their own will.

Except they didn't. Because most jobs require a higher education degree as a minimum requirement. So it's a bullet they have to bite nonetheless, just that the gun isn't aimed at them but their future.

But going with your logic, I guess that is a "choice" and we shouldn't complain about student loans so much since we all make our decision to take it. Yeah ok.

ChrisBrownze2 votes

I literally write my last exam to graduate from university tomorrow. and I will have no student debt upon graduation. So yes it is all about choices and the path you take. I also have several friends from my home town that instead of going to university have chosen the skilled trades and they have jobs. There's a shortage of skilled labourers here in Canada and plenty of incentives available from the government to get well paying jobs without a degree.

Its often the people that put in no work or effort and expect a job to be handed to them, that make up bs statements like "jobs require higher education as a minimum requirement".

You didn't have any student loan, in US of all places? Good for you you're born into a rich family, but think that's the norm is stupid. Or you got yourself into a backburner "university" that may or may not cost peanuts to get a degree in, and good luck, because your degree paper will worth even less than that.

.........

You are still in uni that's why you think the way you do now, that you believe there's full of opportunities as long as you look for it.

Unless you graduate with flying colours in grades and belted all over with experience (which you wouldn't be able to get as undergraduate and those that do mostly get it via family connection), the first 2 years or so after graduate is all but guaranteed that you'd be either unemployed or being a wage slave doing cashier job or other menial position to that nature.

Just so you know, in Australia where I'm at now there is an EXTREME lack of skilled labourers. Does that mean being an actual skill labourer means you're set for life? HAHAHAHAH I used to believe that, but look at me now.

They say that often NOT because there is an actual shortage in skilled labour, but because there is a HIGH DROPOUT RATE of skilled labours. Why is that? There can be many reasons and depend from nation to nation but the bottom line is that skilled labour industry is often utter dogshite. In Australia, tech industry is extremely underfunded, there is no infrastructure for most things and no economy for it to despite constantly claiming we're "developed", and it's also in that vein our tech industry is full of fraud and shady shit. I don't know what Canada is like maybe it's the promised land but I ain't holding my hope so high.

Point is, as much as I like to believe in "effort", it's often a lie. We haven't gotten there yet with everyone having a choice.

If a man is not high elo his chance of getting views on twitch are pretty much 0. On the other hand, women who dont put in the effort to climb to high elo have the option of showing their "assets" on stream to get views. Please explain how women are being treated unfairly in this circumstance.

That's like saying there's a light and day difference between feeding a dog only after it does a trick and feeding a dog more when it does a trick.

It still doesn't change the fact the dog is bound by the fate that it has little agency and has to do tricks and depends on its master (and entertaining them) in order to get stuff, just the degree varies on how much.

That at its core, is a problem.

My comment was in no way to pursue or forward an argument. I replied and that does not constitute anything of an argument. Also to like something does not indicate immaturity. It seems you're trying to make some case calling me out or baiting for a response so you can have a "gotcha" moment call it a win and then leave. You don't actually care about any of these issues you just thinks it's obnoxious for someone to have these views or perhaps your angry as in your mindset you think women are on top and you deserve more for not having "assets" you can use to get to the stop of the streaming lists. Then again maybe you're a very rich woman who believes that you worked so hard to get where you are and seeing those streamers upset you. Either way you're very angry at them and THAT is your point. Then again there does exist mature attacks on character but I've rarely seen them done via an image. Perhaps I'm wrong and you comparing me to that image was very very mature and enabling certain people is immature but who knows. Point is one of probably isn't dumb enough to have a screenname that is very similar to that of a notorious man who beat a well liked pop star. So I don't quite know what it is you're doing here acting as if you have a valid opinion on something like equality for female video game characters and their adverse effects on the populous. Also did you actually READ the post you commented on?

ChrisBrownze2 votes

Listing off a bunch of terrible possibilities in order to create the impression that I must fall somewhere into this awful list and cannot be outside of it , is a low level tactic in trying to make a point about my personality/situation.

I bet you'd be shocked to find out I fall no where within your list of awful cases. Too bad you wasted all this time writing out that somewhat extensive but not exhaustive list.

Tbh Ive never been bothered by female streamers and I'm definitely not angry with them. My original comment was only meant to defend the artists that design the champs. Maybe I used a poor analogy.. but once I got the response that related female gamers to slavery(still laughing at that) I knew I was in for a good time debating people who have no clue how to structure an argument or spot weaknesses in their own points before posting them. While I dont have any passion for this particular subject, everything I wrote, I do believe is mostly true, so at least you can rest assured you didnt waste your time arguing with a troll that was only playing devils advocate.

To summarize I had no interest in arguing but the extreme response I got to my original comment. I just couldnt resist.. [vlad-salute]

Yeah I don't think you understand the point being made on how this kind of behavior affects the female playerbase and what they should of themselves. I felt you had a grasp but that bit of women treated "unfairly" indicates you don't know the definition of unfair because it's still technically unfair but in their favor.

It's not more options and it's not even an option.

Male players have to prove to be good to be watched in general. Or they don't, I heard there are streams that specialises in being mad and throwing games (Tyl... cough)

Female players have to prove they are pretty and hit the waifu buttons. Skills won't get them views, in fact it gets them toxicity, just like last time a female streamer streamed Dark Souls or some game to that nature and played pretty good and her viewers immediately and furiously demanded her to show her key strikes because reasons.

I'm not sure if you are deluded to believe we're in 24th century where everyone is free to be and do whatever the hell they please, but think this, hard gendered roles wasn't even a century ago, what makes you think that suddenly everyone has a choice?

They don't. We're all slaves to our social expectations. At least men are valued on their abilities unlike women are valued on their existence like a prop (and let's not talk about minorities), I guess.

ChrisBrownze2 votes

For starters Tyler1 is currently in Master tier. Hes a high elo personality streamer. If he was not high elo, no one wouldve ever watched him in the first place.

Females don't have to prove they are pretty, this is something you fabricated to fit your argument. If a female on her own without getting "duo help" climbs to challenger and has some personality. Just like all the top male streamers, I guarantee she will get views without taking her clothes off.

You often forgot that the viewers choose who they watch. And that decision is obviously going to be influenced by their bias, cultural or not.

Whens the last time anybody talked about all the male streamers that hover "plat and diamond". LMAO. Comeback when you find a solo challenger female streamer that gets no views.

When was the last time you opened Twitch.tv?

Not every male streamer is Challenger, you know.

Hashinshin usually hovers around Diamond (though tryhard, super hard, once and got to Master before tumbling back), SoloRenektonOnly hovers Diamond, Trick2g often hovers Diamond but his fans usually insist that he's smurfing and memeing in Diamond or something, the list goes on. All of them are pretty big that people can easily recognise. I am not sure why you assume all male streamers are Master/Challenger or something.

EDIT: Deleted Annie Bot because he is NOW in Diamond so not really a long term resident.

Lol what? Solorenekton was GM 300lp earlier this season, Hashinshin has been in master tier before. SRO is also famous for his guide on wave manipulation that he put out many years ago when the community was growing. Hashinshin is a personality streamer who preaches to his choir of viewers on everything wrong with the game.

The point is all these people have been high elo at one point and frankly I regard d2 and d1 as high elo, but simply being d2 is not enough to get views, you need personality or educational content to keep people coming back, and that's what these streamers you listed have.

Idk, I check the opgg and it says

S4 Diamond; S5 Diamond; S7 Diamond; S8 Diamond; currently Diamond.

Win streaks don't count, obviously.

Hashinshin has been in master tier before.

Many years ago. The last 2 seasons he finished Diamond and is also currently in Diamond. We consider that updated information.

He did recently climb to Master once when he tried REALLY hard (mostly because he's motivated to prove a point since he was in a climatic feud with IWD). And then fell back to Diamond right after reaching it.

SRO is also famous for his guide on wave manipulation that he put out many years ago when the community was growing. Hashinshin is a personality streamer who preaches to his choir of viewers on everything wrong with the game.

Looking at SRO and his Diamond spree, obviously elo is by far not the only determinant here.

And also, we're currently talking about TOP VIEWED STREAMERS, and even they don't even need to be top elo to succeed as it turns out.

So what makes you believe your average streamer needs to be a top player to get anything out of it?

Also yes, you used the term "personality streamer". Well I'm sure there are more than 1 since I'm also quite sure there are viewers who don't look for skill display particularly and just want a nice persona to watch. And yes, female streamer can be a personality stream too, or is it to be taken as worthy and legitimate they have to show your their Challenger badge before you even care to watch them?

To ask for someone to prove and beyond just for you to give them the lowest amount of attention is pretty much the core of discrimination; we're back at the female player again who just because they're good at a game considered "hard", the viewers demanded her to show key strokes because everyone assumes she's cheating. And in this case, I guess other streamers can be a personality stream just fine but female games have to show their Challenger before anything amirite?

............

Also SRO hasn't been an informative streamer for quite some time already. He's currently known for being a rage gamer that spouts some of the worst shit when he's tilted.

TF Blade is also currently following his steps.

If you click on tier graph on solo renektons opgg profile you can see he was GM 200lp+ from 07.06 to 08.05.

Also Hashinshin may not have challenger macro but his mechanics are respected as being extremely good and he has his personality (Source.

Idk what an "average streamer" is to you, and yes I mostly watch high elo streams to get better at the game. I see no value in watching a plat stream when Im already in plat. However I once watched a few min of Kaypealol a while back because she was in the top 10 streams on twitch and i wanted to check her rank.

To my surprise she was in plat and had a lot of views. Then I realized something else. Her stream is not sexualized like so many other low elo female streamers. She has a wholesome personality and frankly I respect her for not taking the easy way to get viewers and for keeping her shirt on. I dont watch her cuz I dont have the time but I respect her and no one in her chat was questioning her keystrokes. She is proof that just like men, a woman can succeed in streaming through personality alone. Personality streaming alone without elo, is extremely difficult for both men and women and most personality streamers are at least diamond. But Kaypea is proof that with the right personality the internet doesn't discriminate against men or women.

Putting aside literally everything else in this thread, this isn't a good comparison because twitch streamers are real human beings with autonomy and fictional characters are not...

ChrisBrownze3 votes

Yes but the artists who design the characters should have autonomy to draw and design stories they like.

I didn't say they can't. I just said it was a bad comparison. A fictional character can't choose to pop her boob out, since she doesn't exist.

Hey OP, I agree with your post but you really put it in the wrong place. Try a different forum, people here get angry if you even try to suggest that women have feelings
