[Champion Concept] Apo'Phis - The Void Serpent
I have made champion concepts before this, but this was the first one that I put some time into making. I knew I wanted to make some serpent
, and built his abilities around this idea. Since I’ve never put this much work into a concept, I’m new to balancing so I decided to leave out the specifics like cooldowns, unless I found it necessary to specify.

APO’PHIS - THE VOID SERPENT “Cho’Gath, The Terror of the Void. What terror is that? Maybe you were powerful once, but you’ve become weak, old. Runeterra may still fear you, but the Void does not, I do not. I have come to fight you again, I have come to repay you for these scars you gave me centuries ago in that pit. So come, fight me, kill me if you can, maybe make it a bit more permanent this time.” Apophis is a massive serpent, born deep in the Void. While trying to kill Cho'Gath in order to gain the respect and fear of the Void, he was badly wounded and almost killed. After hearing of Cho'Gath's departure from the Void, he vowed to take revenge, which meant following Cho'Gath into Runeterra. Because he was injured, however, he was trapped in the Void for centuries until he regained his strength. Now he seeks out Cho'Gath in Runeterra, waiting for the day when he will take from Cho'Gath what was taken from him.
Abilities:
Passive: Piercing Venom: Landing abilities and auto-attacks on a champion adds one stack of Serpent’s Wrath to that champion. Every stack on a champion reduces their armor and magic resist by X. At maximum stacks, a slow is applied and Apophis’ abilites against that champion gains an additional affect. Note: Apophis can use all abilities with maximum stacks immediately, so I want to make it somewhat difficult to reach max stacks.
Q: Constrict: (18/16/14/12/10) After channeling for a short duration, Apophis is launched in a target direction, and latches onto the first enemy champion he hits, and suppressing them for 3 seconds. He can release the enemy by recasting the ability. Apophis can use other abilities during the duration. Passive effect: Constrict gains additional range, and upon reactivation, Apophis can again leaps in a target direction, but cannot hit another enemy. After the ability ends, Apophis has a short time to reactivate to jump, but can instead choose to not use the secondary jump.
W: Serpent’s tooth: (12/10/8/6/4) Upon activation, Apophis’ next auto-attack gains extra range and damage, along with applying a slow. If used during constrict, it gains 50% bonus damage. Passive effect: Serpent’s tooth stuns the enemy.
E:Phantom Serpent : (7/6/5/4/3) Apophis launches a zig-zagging projectile, which widens as it travels. It damages champions, and can hit multiple times, also applying multiple stacks. Passive effect: If it hits a champion with maximum stacks, the projectile returns, and Apophis is healed for a portion of the damage dealt. Note: The projectile goes through its full course before turning around.
R: Serpent’s Armor/Shed: (90/80/70) Passive: While Tough Skin is on cooldown, Apophis gains X% bonus armor and magic resist. Active: All crowd control is removed from Apophis and he gains additional movement speed. Also, the additional armor and magic resist from passive is traded for increased damage. Apophis gains a thornmail effect during the duration, dealing DOT. The passive effect is traded back again after 10 seconds.
Overview:
Apophis is an AD scaling champion, most likely to be played in mid lane, because of his high damage potential and utility. Because of his ability to escape situations with his ult and Q, he has the luxury of being squishy and being able to survive fights without being immediately hit with crowd control. What Apophis lacks in early game because of long cooldowns which make stacking difficult, he makes up for in great scaling and ability to make quick, clean plays that can turn a fight.
Apophis plays around his ability to assassinate a desired target. He needs to build up stacks on a target, and quickly get in, kill them, and get out. If he gets stopped by cc, his ult helps him escape and gives him a boost of damage to finish his target off. Because Apophis has very little multi-target damage, he has to wait for his cooldowns to come back up to go onto another target, unless he can get within auto-attack range.
