Greetings everyone! Welcome again to this month's Community Concept Open Stage. In this contest, I ask for any and all Champion Concepts posted in the months of April and May (that have not been entered in a CCOS prior), and run it by a temporarily anonymous panel of fellow Summoners! If you're interested at all, read on! Everything is detailed below.

Entry Requirements:

  • Limit ONE entry per player.
  • Concept Entries must be posted this month, or have been posted last month (as in this month; May 2017, and last month; April 2017), and never entered in a CCOS before.
  • No WIP Concepts please. This contest is here to encourage complete content. WIP Concepts will be disqualified and / or ineligible for points.
  • Concept Entries must be YOURS. If the linked Concept's author and your name are different, your entry will be disqualified, and / or rendered ineligible for points.
  • Entries will be taken from now until I post a [Contest Closed] thread on the 17th. If I forget to post this topic, let me know!
  • All entries must at least have a LORE and a KIT section to be considered a concept. More is needed to remain competitive, but to proceed to judging, you need at least that. Concepts without a LORE and a KIT by the time judging begins will be considered a WIP Concept, and thus disqualified and / or ineligible for points.
  • The first 30 entries will be taken. Any posts above that limit will not be entered.
  • Entrants can be disqualified and / or be ineligible for points based on rude behavior towards other entrants / judges (though negative feedback, so long as it is constructive, is fine), as well as disregarding of the Universal Forum Rules (no, porn is NOT a legitimate reference image). Other major problems may also qualify.

  1. Post your concept normally within the Skin & Champion Concepts Board, if it's not already posted.
  2. Reply to THIS POST with a link to Step 1.
  3. Wait for me to reply with "Entry Confirmed!". If it takes more than a few days for me to reply, don't hesitate to remind me! I might've missed you!
  4. Watch the "Current Entrants" List above and double check that you're up there, if you are, then you're in!

As before, leave useful feedback on a fellow entrant's concept, then make sure the judges have a way to find it easily.

Judges Needed: So if you're at all interested in judging this month, E-Mail me at '[email protected]' and I'll give you more info. I encourage lots of questions! I ALWAYS need more judges, and there is no detriment to stop trying and walk away halfway through (because a lot can come up over the course of a month).

I do ask that all judges fill out the rubric and provide feedback for every champion. If you don't, I can't accept your scores.

FAQ:

Hey wait, Outreach Bonus?

I'm splitting the good neighbor bonus since this subcommunity is getting too insular. The outreach bonus follows the same rules as the good neighbor bonus, but has to be on a concept that, at the time of posting, is NOT in the CCOS.

But I've never made a Concept before....

Honestly, just give it your best shot. Try searching up other CCOS entries and look at what won first place. Focus on what makes your champion unique from everyone else. Imagine playing against it - is this guy going to be permabanned like Zed or Yasuo? Study up on how Riot writes their lore.

Or just reference Sir ArmaMalum's Introduction to Champion Concepts. That works too.

I have a WIP Concept...

Feel free to post and work on your Concept as much as you want. It's not technically entered until you provide the link to the entries thread. Just make sure you're not the 31st entry or beyond, and that the Concept was either made in April or May, and has not yet been entered into a CCOS!

I don't have a Concept, and I don't have time to judge, but I want to help!

This is still cool. The single best way for you to help is to give feedback. Negative or positive, just make sure it's constructive, and that the author can use it effectively if they choose to do so.

Can I change my Concept after entry?

As encouraging feedback and Concept participation is a major motive behind this contest, I encourage iterating on a Concept, HOWEVER you have to be able to argue it's still the same champion, so no major changes. Otherwise, it will have to count as a new entry, with your previous entry being disqualified. Please keep in mind that your entry doesn't start until you provide the link here; If you want feedback before entering I advise you to simply post it normally, and provide the link when you feel you're ready. Just be sure to enter before the entry period ends, and before we hit 30 entries!

Does that mean I can't swap out my Concept completely?

No. So long as there's still room left, you can completely swap out your Concept. If we're at 30 entries and you want to change, then I can't allow that.

Should I drop out?

You can, but there's no opportunity cost to staying in, so I'd recommend you just go the distance.

Can I change my Concept after judging starts?

Yes, but this may not be the smartest thing to do. The judges peruse the entries at their own pace once judging begins, in whatever order they desire. This means there is no guarantee that your changes will be seen by every judge. If you do make changes, especially late in the judging period, you have to be prepared for a score that does not accurately reflect your final Concept.

Will there be any specific themed CCOSes?

I've considered the idea. I don't think it's a good idea to run them in place of the CCOS since they might exclude some up and coming concepts, but if anyone wanted to take the initiative and run their own themed CCOS, such as one where all contestants HAVE to have been a prior entry, I'd very much endorse it. I'd do it myself, but one's enough.

What's it take to host the CCOS?

If you're not judging? Not much - have some Google sheets for scoresheets to pass out to the judges and make sure you get them all back by the end.

What's it take to judge?

You need to be able to understand why certain design choices are made. It's not enough that a concept looks cool, it needs to make sense from a design perspective and still be fun to play and at least defeatable by opponents. You also need to be able to identify the individual parts of each champion and how they work toward one whole champion. If you're in the habit of posting long good neighbor reviews, or if you've scored in the top five in any CCOS, you're in a good spot here. If you're the kind of guy that can't muster even a paragraph for another concept, I'd suggest refraining or improving upon your critical analysis skills.

Support the CCOS: Some of you have been doing this already, but if you'd like to support the CCOS, as well as get more people involved each month, provide a link to this post on your entry so that others can find it easier. This lets the CCOS accrue more visibility without anyone needing to spam reminders. This is by no means a requirement, but thanks to anyone who does help out!

Also, re: judging, I have one other judge and I've never seen him around before.

After much deliberation, I have elected to enter Vaughan into this collection of Cs, Os and Ss(s).

I think I may've been unlucky at the time of his creation. TWO contests at once - I'm getting no feedback. And yes, this is totally a thinly-veiled attempt for sympathy reviews.

I've no problem with that at all. I know my concepts are big; so I try not to guilt trip people into trading reviews with me. That said, I'll make a point of looking over your character properly, instead of just giving you table tips. I was gonna do this, anyway, but may or may not have been more interested in formatting my own concept (it turns out I'm boring).

I spend a lot of time being 'creative', so I don't remember much of what goes on these forums unless it pertains to Viktor, with whom I am obsessed. That said, from what I can gather from my upvoting the other reviewer (and my enthusiastic reply), I got whatever I was after from him. Heck, I didn't even update my champion. I was probably satisfied with the learning experience. :P

Your post talks about minimising text and, evidently, didn't grasp the context of the ult on the character. Which could easily be my fault. If you posted while I was still watching the champion, then I probably didn't consider it in line with my goals as far as the concept went. Sorry if you felt slighted. I'm ignorant; not malicious. I swear.

First of all, I'd like to apologise to Raxistaicho who made a detailed review on my previous concept, Lyra (which I won't be entering since I have encountered writing + kit issues)

I would instead like to enter Kirylis, the Snowborn

May she freeze out the competition! (and hopefully not suffer too badly from the Skylarke factor)

Honestly I think Echoing gives you too much free advice.

In the nicest way possible I think you should know it's kinda inappropriate to ask the judge for feedback before judging begins. Echoing, I also think that you oblige Skylarke much too much advice before the contest even starts. It's fine to advertise your concept with other contestants, but the judges are here to be the final arbiters of what you ultimately give them, not pseudo-contestants that give you free advice to be more tolerable in their eyes.

I have not been the only recipient of such advice, either now, or in the past.

As a disclaimer, I am not saying that I am obliged a review (nor is anyone, to anyone) but merely stating a fact.

The Anagram King asked for, and received a very extensive breakdown of their concept (what they chose to do with it being another matter entirely).

Echoing has also obliged to provide reviews to other concepts in the past while acting as judge within the CCOS at request, or when he feels like doing so. If you want him to institute a policy that prevents judges from commenting whatsoever on any concept which may or may not be within the boundaries of the competition, then so be it, and by his own will, not any crazed and frenzied directive of yours.

But do not hang me as an example when there are those who have asked for more (and received) as such.

Firstly, I think that was an odd and unnecessary addition to an otherwise well-structured response. By all means, show me any part of my comment in which I came across as 'frenzied' or 'crazed'.

Echoing can do what Echoing wishes, but it is my belief that if we are to have fair CCOSs in the future that Echoing either doles out pre-contest reviews for every concept or none. Feedback is an integral part of any CCOS, but feedback from contestants and feedback from judges are entirely different beasts that come at different times and in different ways. What's fair about a concept that can receive feedback from the judges in advance, when others do not either because they did not ask or Echoing did not get around to it, which I don't blame him for? Hell, I even gave you a review back in December (admittedly before it became apparent that Echoing was unable to judge, and I shouldered that mantle), and one could argue that it helped you secure the 5th place spot.

I believe you that you are not the only recipient of Echoing's advice before or during the entry phase. However, I would argue that you have benefitted the most from it. It's a repeated cycle, in which the Skylarke entry comment is accompanied by a comment from Echoing/Raxistaicho/THE RlVER KlNG that bemoans another Skylarke-y concept (e.g., often excessively mobile, a hard counter to an entire class, and possessing a bloat of effects that allows them to efficiently bully their opponent out of lane whilst also responding to any other given conceivable situation). Maybe you even get a cheerful fugertech comment thrown in. Echoing then usually gives you a nice wall of text explaining the Skylarke Syndrome. Let's talk about Vyrda, because she is an egregious example of this.

You posted Vyrda twice - the first time, she was so flawed and unpopular with the community that you decided to retract and rework, but not before lengthy reviews from other notable champion creators, including Echoing. Fast forward to last month's contest and you have a shiny new Vyrda, hell, that Echoing even graciously reviewed AGAIN. There's a very strong argument there that this helped you place even higher in the April CCOS. There is a reason I cannot enter Viatus in a CCOS ever again, as much as I adore him. Echoing and Raxistaicho have already reviewed and scores him for me, so entering him again based on the feedback I received would give me an unfair advantage over other contestants because I know what Echoing is looking for. Vyrda may not have been entered in a CCOS twice, but she was as good as.

I am not trying to pick a fight, these are merely my observations.

I would just like to point out that it appears you label me as receiving favoured treatment. But I don't. I do leave long detailed reviews myself (although I don't do it as often now because exams) and do often commit to follow-up in this regard. I appreciate the reciprocation of my fellow champion creators of a review and feedback, but I rarely ask for it purely out of 'just cuz '. I don't actively look for handouts, but I appreciate them, and I reciprocate where I have the means and resources necessary.

Furthermore, Vyrda is, (with one exception (Evaire), but that one had the first version in the CCOS, and the rework to reflect feedback given from it) the first concept I have majorly reworked and reposted. I especially do not appreciate the tone you have taken, which implies that I regularly do this in order to benefit from higher scores.

There is nothing to stop anyone else on these Boards from doing the same way and receiving the same treatment. I simply abide by the rule of 'Treat others as you wish to be treated', which appears to have been fairly successful in this regard. It is also an attitude which I wish to engender in others.

Regarding the comment which you have selectively highlighted, it is because of the behavior which I feel you have exhbited during my interactions with you, both direct and indirect. You seem to take great conviction in whatever cause you pick, and while I have cause to commend that, I see also that it is perhaps your greatest flaw as it can lead down a road from which there is almost no return (ex. the Alt debacle, for which there was, and still isn't any substantive evidence) as it can border on behavior such as fantacism or zealotry.

I do not, however wish to end on a poor note, and as such, would like to wish you the best of luck in the coming CCOS.

I made my points clear in the previous comment and I see no reason to restate them.

Regarding the second two paragraphs, if your philosophy is treating others as you wish to be treated, then I would say you have made some slip-ups in that territory. I certainly have, and I find it odd that you wish to bring up that chapter of CaC history again, but trying to passive-agressively claim a high ground neither of us have earned is not the way to win me over. I would say you have many philosophies that change with convenience, but so do many. Some would say I do as well, which I would not presume to be swift to try and correcct.

Regardless of how you feel about me, you may have missed a rather sincere apology a while ago that I believe was a suitable precursor to my attitudes and viewpoints moving forward. Using FEK, it is easy to note that the thred received a heartwarming 21 upvotes, but also a troubling 15 downvotes. It's despicable enough to downvote any concept in this board, robbing it of the chance for some time in the sun, but much more so to downvote a sincere and contrite apology. It is clear that there are still people in this sub-board who refuse to move on, 15 in fact, and I do not recall upsetting at least 15 people who did not comment their support of me on the aforementioned thread; alts have long plagued this sub-board in particular and I am sure they are still at work. As to whether they are yours, mine, or even some vengeful spectre of regonas; is not my business and I realize the mistake in vocalizing without absolute proof (which is arguably impossible to ever produce), although I will always crusade against their usage. Regardless, it would be a shame if you numbered among that stubborn quindectet, because I have genuinely expressed my contrition and wish to move forward.

I made my peace with NewSupportMeta a long time ago, and I do not wish to have any enemies, public or private, in Concepts and Creations. Best of luck to you as well, although I will offer you advice with the benefit of hindsight:

Not tying to seem condescending or anything, it's just my humble opinion that the judge (which is 99% of the time, you) of all people should not feel obligated to hand out reviews before the judging starts. It just feels a bit unfair to those who are left out, and I won't be the guy who mandates that you must write a review for every concept for the sake of equality, since you will end up doing that anyways by the end of the month.

That's just my two cents.

Actually Echoing, I'ma let you decide what I post this month. I have ideas for two champions, one of them a rather nice Zaunite creation who just wants to live in peace, the other a boisterous adventurer with a taste for mead and monster guts.

Sorry I couldn't post last night I was tired. I'd heavily prefer that all Judges explore the website rather than the post, as there are some things on the site that aren't on the post and I spent a lot less time formatting the post due to the extra stuff.

I have 2 concepts in creation but I think I can't work on both at the same time, which is why I'll shelve the other one and work on the other and sudmit it to the next contest.

So which would you prefer:

  • A genius mastermind/tactician who gives commands behind his ranks
  • A yordle on a hot air balloon who drops bombs the size of his body

The latter sounds too much like you're doing a Clash of Clans design, which has some innate problems on top of being too close to Ziggs, so let's go with the former.

I just realized this. And its great.

Results are planned to come on the 31st. And I've been doing a "no candy, pop, or crap food" and being a vegetarian for a month. And this ends on the 31st! School also ends on the 31st for me.

So the 31st is gunna be like... the kewlist.

I was wondering though, if anyone else has noticed a distinct lack of reviews in the more recent CCOS's? It may just be me, but I've found in the past 3 CCOS's I have participated in, comments and reviews have been becoming distressingly scarce. I will admit that I have not done as much as I would have liked to fix this problem (Only got my out-reach bonus this time. Was incredibly busy and couldn't get another review out D: ), but I fear it may be a problem none-the-less.

I just find this a little worrying. I have always been proud of the CCOS community for going out of their way to aid each other and concepts in general, and would hate to see that disappear. Once more, I admit that this might be an isolated incident for myself (maybe I don't listen to my reviews enough?), but just thought I'd try and bring the problem into the light if it is indeed a problem.

I know when I entered I went out of my way to do the reviews for other concepts, but last time I'm fairly certain I didn't get any either. It's a gamble. Sometimes people will return the favor if you link it- sometimes they won't. A good review does take a substantial amount of time to write up- it's not exactly a 5 or even 10 minute thing.

That's fair. I know for a fact that my biggest trouble with getting reviews out is that they take me about an hour, and during that time (if I even have that time) I get to doubt myself so much that half the time I don't post haha.

I apologise if this post sounded whiny or entitled. I had simply noticed a trend over the last couple of CCOS, and thought it would be beneficial to bring it to people's attention. If we simply can't get the reviews out, then we can't get them out.
