AP Bruiser Itemization Ideas

Dear Riot,

I love playing Diana . I may be new, and my reflexes are terrible, but I love her. Smooth, deadly, beautiful, determined, and...rather one-dimensional. She can jump on fools, and if the fools are squishy enough she wins. Otherwise she dies very fast. And while Diana mains will argue all day about why that is, I'd like to take a few pokes at one of those reasons. AP Itemization.

Per a couple months ago there was a 'slow burn' project for AP Bruiser Itemization going, and while a comment from MapleNectar suggested that this project had been put to the side until at least after preseason I would like to drop a few suggestions for such items to whoever at Riot is listening.

I know AP Bruiser Itemization is a tough subject – avoid the return of tank Fizz while allowing broader build paths for Diana, Morde, Rumble, Singed and a few others is not easy – but I do hope that its one where progress will eventually be made. And so, here are a few of my ideas.

ARCANE HYDRA

  1. +450hp
    • 55 AP
  2. 10% CDR
  3. Passive: Unique. Basic attacks (on-hit) grant 6 magic resistance and reduce the target's magic resistance by 6 for 5 seconds. Stacks up to 5 times for a total of 30 magic resistance.
  4. Passive: Unique. 'Aura' Nearby enemies take 5% increased magic damage from purchaser (+5% per 500 bonus hp) (325 radius).
  5. Active: Unique. 'Crescent' Auto-attack reset. On next basic attack, do bonus magic damage equal to (50% to 90% AP) to units around your target. (50% near the edge) (400 units radius) Limitations: melee only. Build path: Wand's Edge (new item, see below) + Oblivion Orb I'd like to think this would be about 3000 gold, but I'm iffy on how Riot balances passives. Efficiency-wise the above clocks in at 2633 gold, or 87.7% efficiency. For comparison, Titanic is 86.4% and Ravenous 101.4% efficient by stats.

WAND'S EDGE

    • +20 AP
      • 10% CDR
    • Passive: Unique. 'Aura' Nearby enemies take 5% increased magic damage from purchaser. Limitations: melee only. 800 gold, builds out of an Amp Tome.

JIRAIYA'S WILL

    • +450 hp
    • +30 AP
      • 10% CDR
      • 5% ms
    • Passive: Unique. 'Dreadnought' Generates a maximum of 100 Momentum stacks by moving, which grant up to 60 bonus movement speed.
    • Passive: Unique. 'Crushing Blow' Basic attacks discharge all stacks to deal (1 per stack) on-hit bonus magic damage, up to 100. Basic attacks at 100 stacks also do additional magic damage equal to 10% of your AP. [Crit functions the same as Deadman's]
    • Passive: Unique. 'Lifeline' Taking 400-1800 damage within 5 seconds grants a shield for up to 3.75 seconds equal to 75% bonus health. Decays after .75 seconds. 60 second cooldown.
    • Passive, Unique. 'Jiraiya's Fury' Upon triggering Lifeline, all current cc will be cleansed and the champion will gain 15% spell vamp until out of combat.
    • Passive, Unique. 'Overcome' On triggering Lifeline and not dying until user has been out of combat for 10 seconds, gain one permanent stack. Each stack grants 5 AP and 20 HP. Build path: Aether Wisp + Kindlegem I'd hope for a price point near 3000 for this item as well, making it 71.9% efficient. While said efficiency is notably low, the passives are enormously powerful. For comparison, Maw is 89.7% efficient and Steraks is at minimum 64.4% efficient (but grows in efficiency with levelups – potentially maxing out at more than 120%).

So that's all my ideas for now. I know that even the idea of AP Bruisers is a bit contentious, to say nothing of which champions would count as AP Bruisers and which not, but I hope someday to see a few items make their way to the live servers that let my moonlit death have a few more options.

Cheers, DQD

PS. apologies for the formatting, I organize things I write to myself rather oddly and I hope it comes across clearly.

Yeah AP Bruisers need items for sure. I make posts about this all the time as well. There are alot of reasons why they don't exist, but those reasons need to be fixed so AP Bruisers can be fun again.

Arcane Hydra would be abused by tanks. 450 HP + % damage amp scaling with bonus HP...

The problems with creating ap bruiser items is that they either be abused by someother mage that leads to hard nerfs on that item (like cassio and ryze ruined abyssal mask for other mages) making it unviable.

The other is deathcap which basically exponentially multiplies ap, imagine 800 ap with your arcane hydra that would be 400 aoe magic damage to non primary target, deathcap fucks up every attempt at sustained ap damage itemisation as it turns it into burst item or the damage ratio is so low that deathcap is required for decent damage but at that point burst is better due to having high ap.

item 3170

WTF these items are bloated af. Both of the final items are like a 3-in-1 in terms of abilities. Why would you make everything so fking op if you actually want this to happen
