Should Riot show a little more love to one-trick ponies?

Okay, so, hi...

So this post is strictly going to be talking about the state of the game for one trick ponies, e.g what could be improved, if we would to compare it to a jack of all trades kind of player.

First of all, there are points that you collect for champions by playing them. I think those points are there to track how much points you have on the champion, which is very important to some people. This could only mean that one trick ponying is encouraged, since I don't know why anyone would ever need points to track on champions otherwise, or there would be a cap. This brings me to my next point.

As of right now, there is a cap on champion levels when you reach level 7 with them. Beyond that, your mastery points are completely irrelevant if you don't go and manually check on them. This could be improved through a number of solutions.

  1. Increase the amount of levels you can have on a champion by being able to obtain more shards and what not (not a fan on the idea personally).
  2. Make it so when you reach a certain number of mastery points, your champion level flair automatically converts into a new one, letting players know that you reached that. 3.Make it so there is a little counter somewhere in the flair when you display it that track the amount of points you currently have ( I personally like that idea the most).

Okay, we're all done with that... kind of. My next point is a very unlikely change (which I'd still like) that would involve chroma skins. I think this one is just a niche thing I'd love but is probably completely unwanted by everyone else, but it would be cool if you got a special chroma for the classic champion skin once you reached a certain number of mastery points. Anyway, let's drop this subject for now.

Next up ahead, loot. If you're NOT a one trick pony (I will refer to them as OTP from now on), you probably have a bunch of chests stacked up in your loot. Technically, this is a problem for both of the player kinds, but I'm just going to focus on the OTP part of the problem in this post. Halfway into the season, I can't help but to feel like I'm a locksmith, having 24 crafted keys which I can't use for anything. There should be a system in which you can sell / exchange keys for boxes or vice versa, but at an increased price point, naturally not 1 for 1. This would globally help to balance out the loot system, but I'm guessing that you're (Riot) probably making money out of that, so you won't budge.

I'm pretty forgetful so I don't think if I mentioned everything that I wanted to, but I got most of it into here.

So yeah, if you made it all the way to here... Good job. If you liked this post make sure to upvote it, so that it can get some CLOUT.

For now, this is all. I hope this wasn't covered before, since it will just make me look like an ignorant OTP (which I arguably am).

Let's hope we can get this post to change the game for the better!

[I've included a poll so we can get a demographic on how many people (that actually read this) OTP in one way or another.]

I believe Riot has actually said that one of their goals is to encourage champion diversity, not further incentivize one-tricking a certain champion. While I know that's discouraging news for the one-tricks out there, I do ultimately feel that it's better for pretty much every team when there is flexibility and diversity in the champions their teammates can pick -- doubly so when in ranked or draft.

Doesn't matter what they say, I'm still playing almost exclusively riven.

Well, yes... They did say that. I'm not denying that, but as I stated in my original post, they should have expected that people will start one tricking champions not just because of the point system to rank them up, but also because of the champion itself. If you really like something I don't see why you shouldn't play it. And than comes the argument "But you should have a higher champion pool" or "You can counter pick" or something similar. People who one trick don't have counters ~ they can play against any champion and more or less do equally good. For actually learning the game, playing only one champion is the best thing you could ever choose to do. When you embed the mechanical part of the champion into your brain, you have all that time left to only focus on the game itself. And about flexibility: One'd argue that you're stronger as a player if you play more champions. I'd strongly disagree. Simply put, you might be worse at other champions, but you're that much better on your main that it not only makes up for not being good at others, but probably makes you a bigger threat. Not being able to be counter picked against was already talked about, and also applies to this case.

I'm not arguing one-tricking is somehow bad, but rather simply explaining why Riot is unlilely to offer MORE rewards for it. :)

To understand the game better you should play all of the champions and be well versed in each. It opens more diversity within ones game play, and allows you to counter play better in my opinion.
