Skin Rental

I have a hard time believing I'm the first person to have this idea, but I couldn't find another thread about it, so if I'm double-posting, someone let me know and I'll move myself over there. Thanks.

A friend of mine recently expressed to me her displeasure about having to pay for skins with real money. I explained to her that Riot has to make money somehow, and that literally everything else in the game is free (aside from boosts, name-changes, and other non-visible stuff like that). She understood, and while she still isn't happy with the system, she acknowledges its necessity.

However, the conversation got me thinking. What if there was a way for players to test-drive skins in the main servers? It would help prevent buyer's remorse in situations where the awesome skin art doesn't translate quite as well into the game (Harbinger Kassadin), as well as uncover hidden gems with derpy skin art and amazing in-game visuals (Dryad Soraka). It could boost actual skin sales by giving players access to skins that they can't live without when they otherwise might never have seen them, and at the same time it would ameliorate players who don't want to spend real money, but also want skins for special occasions.

Here's what I suggest for how this might be implemented: during skin select after the champion has been locked in, give the option for any given un-owned skin to be rented by paying its regular RP cost with IP. This will let the player use that skin for the champion for a single game. If the option exists to do the same on the store page, the player can buy 'charges' that they can burn by using a skin in-game if they have enough IP to throw around that they feel like that's a good idea (this particular function also means that if the player rents a skin in champion select and then decides they want a different one, they can pick another one without feeling like they wasted their IP; they can use that rental later). To help promote champions during their free week, their skins can be rented for 1/10 their RP cost. IP rental cost would also go down to reflect the RP price of a skin on sale.

There's one more benefit to this system. It would let Lv30 players with 9 of each rune, every champion, and no real-world money to spend do something with the IP they have accumulating that they can't do anything with.

Anyway, that's my two cents; I'll let people with a higher ELO than me decide whether this is a great idea or a terrible one. Riot comments are appreciated.
