A Misc. Champ Idea

Hi Riot,

I've been designing random game mechanics and characters independently for years, unfortunately none have come to fruition. So I might as well give them to people that have the knowledge and time to make them instead.

Something that has been floating around in my head since I played Dementium back in 2011-2012 was the idea of a 'void room'. Basically, a small area of the map separate from the original, but accessed in real time. Much like how Kayn can traverse through walls, and Bard can create a fixed passageway, this ability would be a mix of the two. The champion would create a void gateway that both teams can use, allowing passage to the void; a different dimension on the rift which would grow bigger as the skill was leveled up, or through a collection mechanic. This other dimension could have special effects on allied and enemy champions, depending on champion specific itemization (like Viktor's staff upgrades), or just a fixed set of team A is healed, team B is damaged while inside.

The area of this void would be restricted, with only two ways to exit: the portal which was used to come in, or the portal used to come out (this portal would be created by reactiving the skill inside the void).

As an ultimate ability, the champion would tear a rift in the normal dimension, exposing it to the void - in turn forcing all nearby champions to undergo their respective effects for a short time. This void area would not be restricted, but could share the size of the separated void, and effects/bonuses would be halved.

In case you couldn't get a visual of what the 'void room' would be, I'll post a picture of it in a little bit.

So, what I'm getting here is that:

  • when the ult is cast a huge area is created on the ground (circle of radius 500-2000, or something).
  • everyone inside that area is trapped inside, and can exit only through a single door (likely located at the edge of the circle nearest the caster).
  • Champions inside the area ignore all pathing restrictions, except the boundary of the area created (which is a wall which cannot be dashed across).
  • The Ult may be re-activated up to once, to create another "door" in the outer wall nearest them.
  • Allies and enemies receive some kind of buff/debuff while in this area.

Does that sound accurate to what you're suggesting? I think you were actually suggesting that the "doors" don't need to be at the boarder of the area, but that could cause big clarity issues. My big concern Is more logistics than balance: what happens to minions and monsters in the area? do they disappear and then re-appear when the area is gone? do they just stay, and continue acting, but can't be interacted with because the void area stops you from getting to them? I see a lot of issues with this where enemies just can't counter it, and are cut off from interacting with things they need to.
