LORE

My name stretches far, far back: back to when Runeterra was nothing but a gentle, pulsing light on a horizon of darkness.

It was the only light that gave us hope, a reason to continue talking through the cold, deep blackness of a world without thoughts and souls—a world bereft even of The Void. In this darkness we tried to find our way, reaching our fingers towards the cosmic walls that did nothing around us but expand and stretch outwards, a prison so wide and so absolutely empty and numb that we had no other choice but to talk to each other. The trouble was, nobody knew how.

Liandry was the one who spoke first. She was the also the first to construct her mask.

When she cried in pain that no one could hear her words, the great dark skies above the world’s glowing heart were filled with the light of a thousand hearths. Her tears were pulled across the cold expanse, and as thoughtless winds blew they scattered her torment over the velvet jet canvas into the most beautiful stars and galaxies you ever saw.

Night came. The rest of us could only watch in absolute wonder as she slipped behind her white mask, the wisps of her nightshade coiling beneath its comfort like begrudgingly satisfied briers. She had become something entirely different. She had become something. And the others yearned to feel as she did.

But not me. I moved away into the shadows and contemplated.

I did not like the masks at first, but one by one I watched as more of the primordial shades followed suit. They braided masks made of brawn and the valiant oak trees; masks of the liquid tides; masks of fortune, wit, love, and masks of hatred and blood and war.

Masks of the Solari; the Lunari; the Planari; or as they were known then, the Great Firebirds.

Beneath the stars of their growing world, the shades behind the masks danced and wept to a perish song, and in the carousel of their empyrean lyrics I watched Runeterra spin into existence. Runeterra, my playground.

I know the smell of Noxian spices. I sold them during the quiet periods between the First and Second Rune Wars. I know the taste of the oil deep in Piltover’s labs, because I move with its viscosity through the cold nexuses of time. I know the gentle winds that hum under the golden wheat that lines the western cliffs of Demacia: I cry for water with them when Runeterra is dry.

It is possible you don’t know me, but you have certainly met me. I am the chameleon who lives on your shoulder, quietly singing his own song, and I have woven underworlds and realities far greater than you, Runeterra.

Today, I don the mask of change.

ABILITIES

Passive: Aspect of the Chameleon: Jeir’ak is the living incarnate of change, and his base stats (and some abilities) depend on whether he purchases a Doran’s Ring, Doran’s Shield, or Doran’s Blade as his first item. Jeir’ak can sell his Doran artifact at any time during the game, however he must also sell all his items at 75% of their normal value. This can only be done once.

Q: Slight Jeir’ak switches places with an enemy champion.

Doran’s Blade: Slight of Hand: Jeir’ak’s auto attacks do 50% more damage for 4 seconds. Cooldown: 10 / 9 / 8 seconds Range: 200 Cost: 40 / 50 / 70 / 90 mana Doran’s Ring: Slight of Wrist: Instead of switching places, Jeir’ak releases a rapid beam of arcane energy that deals 80 / 130 / 150 / 300 / 500 (+65% AP) magic damage Cooldown: 2 seconds Range: 1000 Cost: 75 / 80 / 100 mana Doran’s Shield: Slight of Shoulder: Jeir’ak gains 20 / 40 / 70 / 85 / 90 armor for 5 seconds. Cooldown: 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 Cost: 40 / 60 / 70 mana

W: Cutpurse Jeir’ak immediately turns invisible for 0.8 seconds. If he auto attacks an enemy champion during this invisibility, he steals 10 + (4 x level) gold and 100% movement speed that decays rapidly over 2 seconds. If Jeir’ak is hit with a spell or an auto attack during Cutpurse, this gold bonus is reduced by ½.

Doran’s Blade: Cutpurse deals 25 / 50 / 120 / 180 / 200 (+140% AD) damage and the invisibility bonus is increased to 1.2 seconds. Cooldown: 18 / 17 / 16 / 14 Range: 425 Cost: 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 Doran’s Ring: Cutpurse deals 75 / 85 / 115 / 150 / 180 (+70% AP) and slows the enemy by 40% for 2 seconds. Cooldown: 11 Range: 650 Cost: 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 mana Doran’s Shield: Cutpurse grants Jeir’ak a shield equal 4% of max health for 5 seconds. Cooldown: 10 / 8 / 4 Cost: 70 / 75 / 80 / 90 mana

E: Line magic

Doran’s Blade: Jeir’ak creates a zone in front of him that lasts for 10 seconds. Enemies that pass through the zone bleed for 12 / 15 / 20 (+10% bonus AD) magic damage (stacks up to three times) and are slowed by 60%. Range: 650 Cooldown: 12 Cost: 50 Doran’s Ring: Jeir’ak creates a circular zone that lasts for 10 seconds. Enemies that pass through the zone are slowed and are inflicted with Grievous Wounds. Allies that pass through the zone are immediately healed for 20% (+3% per 100 AP) of their missing health. This can only be applied once. Range: 650 Cooldown: 12 Cost: 70 / 80 / 90 mana Doran’s Shield: Jeir’ak creates a circular wall of earth around him that moves with him for 5 / 6 / 8 / 10 seconds, pushing all units it comes into contact with aside. Cooldown: 17 / 16 / 14 / 11 Cost: 70 mana

R: Primordial Veil All allied champions immediately turn invisible for 3 / 4 / 5 seconds.

Some thoughts on gameplay

Jeir’ak is a champion that’s built around the idea of adaptability. Aspect of the Chameleon makes him an elusive pick and addition to any team composition. Will he function as a marksman harder to keep track of than Lucian? Will he be a mage with Lux-esque lasers on an extremely short cooldown? Will he be used as a disruptive tank in the top lane? Could he function as a support in the bottom lane, focusing on using his line magic for crowd control?

The idea is that you have a choice.

Jeir’ak is designed for team interaction as well as lane interactions that are centered on his ability to steal gold and run away with it. This becomes an especially interesting late game strategy when, sometimes, it’s more viable to just sell all your items and build something completely different.

His ultimate is designed to create surprise, and to promote coordination among team members to use it at the right time either as a disengage or as a strong engage. Imagine if five enemy champions just sprang from the bushes all at once? The pink ward battles would be pretty intense.

This is a great concept, but rather broken. If you make the stealing more of a skillshot, like a thrown kat or Shaco dagger that would be better. Also, possibly instead of swapping places, you could have Jeir'ak be untargetable for a second and look like an enemy champ :)

Yeah I was thinking about Urgot when I was considering the whole swapping places thing. I think it's a great mechanic that causes confusion, which is good for a thief character. As for making his stealing a skillshot, I actually considered this, but I thought that him needing to get close to the enemy to do it would increase the risk and chance for champion interaction.

So you can't start boots or Machete with this character? What about in other gamemodes or maps where they don't have Dorans items? Even if you use Prospector's items, I believe there's only two of those.

Needing to have a Doran's item feels like the same inventory issue that Viktor has, except no dorans items are as useful as Viktor's Hex Core, especially now that it has been buffed. Unless you gave him better base stats to compensate? I don't really know how his numbers compare.

Honestly, I think this champion is really broken as it is. I figured it would be better to go all out and create something with ridiculous stats (his Doran's Ring form basically has a Lux ultimate on a cooldown lower than her own). I thought it would be better to pare backwards from something super OP, kind of like chipping away at a statue.

He cannot start boots and machete, no. But his base stats with the Doran's Shield make him a potential in the jungle. He moves extremely slow at the beginning of the game with a Doran's Shield though, so I personally wouldn't play him in the jungle. It's possible though. But yeah -- he can't start with a machete.

As far as other game modes go: Dorans items are available in TT, ARAM, and SR. There are at least ring and blade equivalent items in Dominion. Could just use those and maybe adjust the base stats for those modes if he proves to be too OP there.
