Story mode or a separate game based on Lore.
Not exactly sure if this goes here, but here goes. I pitched out an idea about a year or so ago maybe on twitter and it's about time I actually put it on the boards.
Gameplay Thoughts:
So I've always thought that LoL had the story foundations to build a good story driven RPG game. However, I also believed the game should still FEEL like League. I was sifting around ideas of how to make that work. I kept snagging on the concept of combat and progression, which are the primary focuses of a League game. How could I come up with a story driven pitch in which combat and progression kept the same basic feel. Then I hit upon an idea while playing Diablo. An action-RPG would fit this perfectly. Now I know the next concern is how to keep the feel of the champions in an action-RPG. This was an easy part, the kit should directly reflect the base kit of the champion in LoL. However, this brought up the issue of champions who tradition don't work well in fights by themselves. How could I keep the kits mirroring the LoL for champs like Soraka who are literally designed to only play supportive roles. The solution to this was also the solution to progression. Gear drops would be based on the champion played and that would balance the character strength in game. Following the gear drops, you will have 6 relic slots for your characters to equip the iconic LoL items to have their effects in this game. These would likely be legendary level items or something equivalent. They would bind to account, then bind to character on equip, to make it easier to farm them for solo players. The final character progression piece would be a version of the runes and masteries system with additional slots to enhance abilities.
Story Input:
Story would basically be a transcribed version of the Lore. Each major faction would get its own starting area along with an additional area for neutral characters. (They could also be offered a choice of which faction they'd like to choose, obviously if it makes sense within the Lore.) Now each character's personal story would be interwoven into the overall faction story to give each character it's own unique gameplay aspect to the game. There are many ways that can be done, but the most logical would be to have the character story happen at certain increments of level. There is still more room to develop even more story for the progression so I can't really be like "this is the end."
Additional thoughts:
Obviously releasing the game with all the characters playable at the start would be improbable, so probably release like maybe either one faction at a time, or a few champions from each faction. With this idea, it could actually make an MMO or a Diablo-esque 1-5 player game (5 to keep the feel of League).
I think that's about the gist of my idea and thought processes on it. I for one would be willing to play a game like this based on League's story.
Thank you for reading this to the end,
support thanks you too.
#Example story card:
Part 1: Cinematic of Talon making a living as a thief and training himself into an assassin. It ends with Noxus underground guilds sending him the message to join them or die. (Could even be something simple like a slide show/comic with voice over)
