Story mode or a separate game based on Lore.

Not exactly sure if this goes here, but here goes. I pitched out an idea about a year or so ago maybe on twitter and it's about time I actually put it on the boards.

Gameplay Thoughts:

So I've always thought that LoL had the story foundations to build a good story driven RPG game. However, I also believed the game should still FEEL like League. I was sifting around ideas of how to make that work. I kept snagging on the concept of combat and progression, which are the primary focuses of a League game. How could I come up with a story driven pitch in which combat and progression kept the same basic feel. Then I hit upon an idea while playing Diablo. An action-RPG would fit this perfectly. Now I know the next concern is how to keep the feel of the champions in an action-RPG. This was an easy part, the kit should directly reflect the base kit of the champion in LoL. However, this brought up the issue of champions who tradition don't work well in fights by themselves. How could I keep the kits mirroring the LoL for champs like Soraka who are literally designed to only play supportive roles. The solution to this was also the solution to progression. Gear drops would be based on the champion played and that would balance the character strength in game. Following the gear drops, you will have 6 relic slots for your characters to equip the iconic LoL items to have their effects in this game. These would likely be legendary level items or something equivalent. They would bind to account, then bind to character on equip, to make it easier to farm them for solo players. The final character progression piece would be a version of the runes and masteries system with additional slots to enhance abilities.

Story Input:

Story would basically be a transcribed version of the Lore. Each major faction would get its own starting area along with an additional area for neutral characters. (They could also be offered a choice of which faction they'd like to choose, obviously if it makes sense within the Lore.) Now each character's personal story would be interwoven into the overall faction story to give each character it's own unique gameplay aspect to the game. There are many ways that can be done, but the most logical would be to have the character story happen at certain increments of level. There is still more room to develop even more story for the progression so I can't really be like "this is the end."

Additional thoughts:

Obviously releasing the game with all the characters playable at the start would be improbable, so probably release like maybe either one faction at a time, or a few champions from each faction. With this idea, it could actually make an MMO or a Diablo-esque 1-5 player game (5 to keep the feel of League).

I think that's about the gist of my idea and thought processes on it. I for one would be willing to play a game like this based on League's story. Thank you for reading this to the end, Aatrox support thanks you too.

Too much work that I don't think they'd ever do, and in the end probably wouldn't be successful

I'm not saying this is a bad idea; it isn't, I just doubt they'd ever do it so don't get your hopes up.

I think a story-based adventure mode against ai- like what hearthstone has, would do the job as well

As someone very passionate about lore and reading/watching a good story I have wished for a "Story mode" on LoL for quite some time. Even if doesn't change the platform of the game ( an entire new game in RPG 3rd person setting ) just having some campaigns interwoven with cinematics and dialogue would be nice.

My favorite idea is this:

When you own a champion you get his "story card" which would involve 1-3 campaigns and some cinematics to tell you key points of their lore and also teach you how to play them.

Talon #Example story card: Part 1: Cinematic of Talon making a living as a thief and training himself into an assassin. It ends with Noxus underground guilds sending him the message to join them or die. (Could even be something simple like a slide show/comic with voice over)

Part 2: Map of the sewers of noxus (yeah actual map) you are playing as Talon and the objective is to outplay the Noxus guild assassins and escape pursuit.
(The map would be highly binary and involve you learning his mechanics - Q AA reset, kiting with W, warding over a wall to E something and going for burst trades and making it out and other such stuff in order to survive to the other end of the map.)

Part 3: Short comic leading up to Talon getting hunted down on the streets of Noxus by some unknown assassin and cornered in a warehouse.

Part 4: Fight Katarina's dad ( General Du Couteau ) - Boss fight - You start at level 3 and need to evade enemy skillshots while duking it out to level up over time (passively gain experience from doing damage) while trying to stay alive until you get level 6.

Once you are level 6 (lets say 5 min game of cat and mouse with the boss) he taunts you: "Show me a true expression of skill. I heard you are the best assassin in my city but I can't see proof of it." Then you need to perform the perfect burst combo: A Talon Voiceover (of his thoughts) narrates at how it should be done.

So you do the maximum amount of damage in the smallest window possible and avoid the boss hard CC. (Much like you would in a teamfight.) Fail this and he will kill you.

Part 5: Cinematic - The general defeats you in the end even after performing perfect combo on him (same as lore) but offers you to work for Noxus and you swear your allegiance. Then you get some general "How Talon lives every day" arc until the general disappears and Talon starts to look for him.

Just like that we get a Tutorial/Campaign + Lore/Cinematics in one.

Also to get players into those it would be nice to have some award for completion like a chroma pack on the classic skin or something else champ related.

It would most definitively be awesome but will it happen?

The answer is - probably not.

Even if they go cheap with comics and not cinematics I doubt Riot would dedicate that much resources for each champ individually.

The project for Talon alone involves at bare minimum: 2 Comics + Voice overs + 2 custom made maps + General du conteu and Noxus assassins models.

#In the end

Riot disappoints me in the fact that they decided to focus so much resources on Pro play and left Lore with the leftovers.

I mean I enjoy LCS to an extent but have always liked good lore/events more.
