Summoner's Brainstorm: Champion / Gameplay Ideas

Hello all,

I know that Riot is full of very talented people designing champions and abilities and such, however, I would like to have a thread where players such as myself can throw some of our ideas for champions at the wall and maybe get some feedback from the community. Feel free to comment and add your own ideas on to this and offer honest critiques and such as you see fit.

And now, on to the idea:

Surfing on youtube led me to a video where in it was brought up that Riot had been throwing around the idea for a shapeshifting champion that was essentially made out of a cloud of insects and wanted to play with the idea of binding that cloud to ally champions to buff them, or something along those lines.

This is obviously a really cool sounding idea, but it also reminds me a bit of Abathur from Heroes of the Storm, an interesting, yet entirely unsatisfying Hero to play as. To sum up Abathur, you don't feel like you're actually doing anything, but you do the most damage and are the most productive member of the team when the stats roll in at the end of the game. This is kind of the opposite feel to what I think that players want.

I do like insects however. I think it would be interesting if it was not just a cloud of insects, but a colony rooted in a rotting corpse, animating it. Basically, it is a sentient cloud of insects that moves a dead body around and can literally burst this vessel and dig up a new one (for something along the lines of a movement spell or an AoE spell during which the player becomes un-targetable as they are a swirling mass of insects that, at the end of the spell, burrows underground and emerges in a fresh vessel in the position the player cast the spell). This is of course, more along the lines of a visual theme, and less around the abilities, but it still kind of works.

Also, the idea of binding to allies is kind of cool but I have another idea that would allow this to be a support type champion or a solo top laner/jungler. That is that the passive on an ability works that:

Passive: When player champion is NOT near ally champion the insect swarm sticks to its vessel, providing additional armor, when near an ally champion the armor bonus is lost and nearby ally champions gain bonus attack speed, attack damage or ability power (it buffs their damage output). This allows the champion to operate well on their own, or help an ADC or any team mate they come in to assist during a gank.

Active: Ability is cast on target enemy champion. If enemy champion is not near any other enemy champions, they receive an armor reduction/slow (similar to an exhaust summoner spell). If enemy champion is near other enemy champions (such as in a team fight, or ADC and support) the debuff is to attack damage, attack speed and or ability power). This allows for utility in a support scenario as well as the capacity to do a respectable amount of damage in a solo top or jungle role.

That is kind of all I have for now. A champion made out of a swarm of insects has a great potential for movement spells/abilities, damage over time and so on. I just prefer the much more visceral image of these insect exploding out of a corpse only to find a new one (as summoner's rift is supposed to have been a very bloody battleground, I'm assuming the swarm would find plenty of bodies it could use).

At any rate, that is my first contribution to this thread. I plan on making more as I enjoy game design, especially the brainstorming of ideas aspect of it.
