Notes from the Underground
As we all know, there can be some pretty scary things that pop up out of the ground. Whether it's ambushing from nowhere

, some terrible secret buried beneath the sands
, deadly assassins
or even whether it's ferrying the dead straight from below
, League has its fair share of underdwellers. But today, I'd like to talk about a different kind of Underground. No, I don't mean like finding your roots
or exploring the depths of the seas
. Heck, I don't even mean like the spooky fellas from the Shadow Isles or who knows where
. No, I'm talking about the shady underbelly of society, whether it's Noxus
, Zaun
, or Bilgewater
. Even in Demacia
, we don't know everything that happens behind closed doors. League may have its fools, backstabbers, cold-blooded cutthroats, renegades, and mercenaries... but the privileged, lucky, charismatic underdwellers? League has yet to see a true happy-go-lucky swindler; a brilliant and persuasive, beloved rhetorician to the public while playing the Puppet-Master behind the scenes; the mastermind behind the heist... a crooked politician.
Enter ** Vino Slick **, a wealthy, esteemed businessman and local congressman in Demacia, and don of the most heinous crime syndicate across the globe, operating worldwide on a number of elaborate schemes... whether he''s funding some notorious Zaun research projects, turning his political opponents against one another, distributing self-promoting propaganda on every continent, or dealing in the black markets of Noxus, his position is all but unattainable as he plots his next move. With the growing popularity and global presence of the League of Legends, Slick has seen his opportunity to reach an even wider audience. He doesn''t care so much for the cheers and admiration… that&rsquo's more Draven’s thing. But Slick knows that if he controls the League, he’s one giant leap forward towards ruling the world.
((I don’t know how to upload drawn pictures to the internet or I would do so, so I’m going to give his visual description here.))
Vino Slick is a yordle of average height with a fair complexion, at least from what can be seen of him. He wears dark sunglasses, has broad (and wide, fluffy) ears which are striped around the edges and which are a delicate pink at the middle. He has no hat, but instead (perhaps as a tribute to his name) he has lengthy, slicked back hair. He can often be found with a slight twitch in his smile, indicative of some less-than-savory thoughts passing through his mind. From the neck down, however, he’s all business. A full black suit, coat and tie cover most of his body, and he wears finely tailored white gloves. He carries a tall black cane which is taller than he is, which has what looks to be a very pricy diamond atop it, a further indication of his health. He then wears dark slacks and decadent, polished white shoes. He is showy about his bling and about being a status symbol. He’s not stupid, either, and he is never seen without his two hulking bodyguards (Dumb and Dumber… No but seriously, they’re like meatshields backing the little yordle, and I haven’t come up with good names for them yet, suggestions welcome). His bodyguards look more like the traditional bigsuit, black-sunglasses big agents you see in those spy movies (and they’re not Yordles). They follow Slick around wherever he goes.

** Abilities: **
Passive: Shady Connections
- Vino Slick and all allies receive an additional 40 gold when the game begins; and for Vino only, items in the shop have a % discount that increases with level (up to 10% at level 18).
- Slick also has access to his Bodyguards, offering some tanky resilience and adding a small amount of additional damage to his base attacks. They can also intercept certain skill shots. Any bonus AD, Armor, MR, Lifesteal, and Attack speed from items bought will only buff the Bodyguards (not Slick, so watch out!). If one or both Bodyguards are destroyed, Vino cannot replace them until death or until returning to the shop at base. Bodyguards cost 50 gold apiece to replace and appear as a special item in the shop that does not take inventory space.
- When moving around normally or standing still, Bodyguards follow behind Slick. When making a basic attack, his Bodyguards will stand in front of him and add their punches to his basic attack. When using an ability, his Bodyguards will move out of the way of his ability.
Q: Compelling Lie
- In a relatively medium-sized range (AoE), Vino Slick gives illusory (temporary) health bonuses to anyone caught within range. Enemies caught in this sphere of influence facing Slick are slowed, whilst enemies facing away from Slick are charmed and turn towards Slick (these charmed enemies are not also slowed). At the end of the duration, the health bonuses vanish for everyone. Allies gain a burst of movement speed when the bonus ends, whilst affected enemies take some poison magic damage over the next 2 seconds.
W: Blatant Thievery/Bribery
- Passively, whenever a minion, pet, or regular monster dies near Slick (even if it's his own team's), Slick loots .5/1.0/1.5/2.0/2.5 gold. When a large monster or champion dies near Slick, he loots 3/6/9/12/15 gold instead. These bonuses stack with kills and assists, and if Slick gets the kill himself, the killed champion loses gold equal to the bonus gold Slick gained this way.
- Slick can activate this ability targeting a player in melee range to give that Champion 15/25/40/60/75 gold. Targeting an opponent with this ability will cause you to appear to be that Champion's ally for 3/4/5/6/7 seconds (except that they do not share line of sight with you). Whilst seen as an ally, Vino gains invulnerability to any attacks or abilities from that champion, can't attack that champion, and gains bonus movement speed when moving away from that champion. The Passive ability is lost while Bribery is on cooldown.
E: Molotov Cocktail
- Vino Slick lobs a Molotov Cocktail into a region specified by your cursor. Any enemies caught within the vicinity of the Molotov Cocktail takes substantial burning magic damage over time and reduces the effects of heals on enemies affected. If the Molotov Cocktail is hurled into brush, the brush CATCHES FIRE and deals additional damage to any opponents caught in the brush. Additionally, the brush vanishes altogether when hit and will regrow after a 30 second period, until which time that region loses any stealth capabilities it once had.
R: Underground Networking
- Vino Slick and all player allies within a certain radius of Slick are stealthed for up to 7 seconds; the next attack made by any player stealthed this way is an automatic critical strike.
** Play-style Suggestions **
Vino Slick may look prideful and polished, but he definitely plays dirty. He acquires gold easily and can use it with greater versatility than most other players. A large part of keeping him alive depends on efficient use of his bodyguards, however, and those too are a financial investment. Most upgrades Slick purchases just buff his bodyguards, some notable exceptions being Ability Power, Spell Vamp, Mana, Mana regeneration, and Movement Speed (the last of which buffs both Slick and bodyguards). It is therefore possible to adjust what Vino can do to best help out the team...
On one hand, Slick's offensive spells stack off of AP, and his other abilities can give him some gold advantage and gank resilience in solo laning. On the other hand, Slick's abilities are primarily targeted at groups or helping allies, and he doesn't need to get kills to get his gold, which makes him an ideal candidate for support: Whether it's giving your
that additional little heft of gold from your purse for her
or it's your ultimate giving your entire team
stealth, there's plenty of potential to be very useful to your team.
Using Slick's Q can and will give your enemies a temporary buff, but take advantage of the slows to make a getaway if you can, or lure a weakened opponent into easy prey for your ADC, or for a well-aimed E. Slick's E is an amazing counter-jungling tool in its ability to obliterate brush while dealing extra damage to foes stealthed by the brush--a would-be assassin''s worst nightmare. Slick's W is useful to your allies as well as to yourself--it also gives you a unique escape mechanism against solo opponents (give them a little gold and you can make a getaway to avoid being killed and giving them more gold). Each of Slick's abilities match his characterization and attitude quite nicely, and his playstyle includes all-new mechanics sure to make playing this fella and against this fella quite fun.
