My Shyvana Rework

Shyvana is a Champion I come back to every few weeks with a different build in mind trying to make her viable, and every time I end up playing one or two games before getting frustrated at the lack of anything I do. Shyvana is in the worst place I've ever seen her, which is unfortunate because she is my long-time favorite champion.

Where Shyvana is right now:

1. Her kit has very little flow;

  • The W is flat out useless now besides the minuscule movement buff it gives.

  • Her passive is extremely underwhelming and heavily reliant on the team which is unlike every other passive out there.

  • While her Ultimate is cool and useful the changes to the abilities, E excluded, are not so much.

2. She gets beat out by most junglers;

  • Vi can not only solo dragon as soon as it spawns but she also stays very healthy when doing it.

  • Warwick and Master Yi both do the camps just as fast while also having a much greater impact on the map.

  • Having no other forms of regeneration or shielding besides what's given by the jungle item has put her way behind half of the junglers available.

3. Her power curve is underwhelming;

  • For most champions that first item is a game changer. You can now take fights you previously couldn't or gank lanes and actually have a chance to succeed. Not for Shyvana. Her kit just doesn't support itself.

4. Her kit just feels bad to build items for;

  • Everything about this champion SCREAMS auto attacker from the double auto proc from Q, the range and damage-per-hit feature of the W and the percent health damage from E. But you know? That build rarely, if ever, works out. Why? Because none of her kit supports that kind of play style. Oh sure the W gives a small movement speed buff and her Ultimate is a dash but you know what? That doesn't matter. Why? Because the W movement speed starts decaying immediately after casting making it next to useless as a catch up tool and the Ultimate is her only gap close OR escape.

  • Every Auto attack heavy melee champion has some way of closing that gap or at least keeping it closed, except for Shyvana. W doesn't last long enough to count and the Ult is an Ult.

  • If they have trouble keeping that gap closed Items will help, specifically Trinity Force, Black Cleaver, Frozen Mallet or Blade of the Ruined King. Blade of the Ruined King- Great item for her but the slow doesn't last long enough to help. Trinity Force- also a good item but the fact that she doesn't use mana and her longish cooldowns besides Q makes it a rough buy. Black Cleaver- HA! All her abilities only do magic damage so it's next to useless. Frozen Mallet- Just a meh item that can't really be built early as it gives no other benefit, great late though.

  • AP Flamethrower Shyvana is just dumb. It's just a single ability that requires her to be in dragon form that has a 6 second cooldown at max cdr, it's not a viable build.

  • Tank Shyvana doesn't work. Her kit does not support it.

Summary: Shyvana as a champion feels bad to play, makes her own team feel bad when she is played and makes the enemy laugh in joy. Her kit has no flow and is difficult to itemize do to the ratios and effects.

I want to fix that.

MY REWORK!

Passive- Her current passive is way too reliant on the team and will often be completely useless during a game.

Current Passive- Fury of the Dragonborn (Awesome name, horrible ability) Innate: Shyvana deals 20% bonus physical and magic damage to Dragons. Additionally, Shyvana starts with 5 bonus armor and 5 bonus magic resistance, which is permanently increased by 5 for every elemental drake her team slays. (League of Legends Wiki)

Response- What? Why is this a thing? Not only does it make it pointless to play any lane other than Mid or Jungle but it is fully reliant on her team. Besides, that 30 magic resistance and armor isn't really all that worth while.

New Passive- Dragonborn's Fury Effect- Burn Baby Burn- The Dragonborns flames set enemies ablaze causing her next auto attack or Q to do 3% max health magic damage. Additionally, Shyvana is healed for 10% of the damage dealt.

First Ability- Twin bite (Human Form)/ Chomp! (Dragon Form) Twin Bite Effect- Shyvana attacks twice in rapid succession with the second attack doing only 80% attack damage, if this attack would activate Blaze it will activate twice instead. Chomp! Effect- Shyvana bites down on the enemy slowing them by 25% for 2 seconds. If this attack activates Blaze the enemy is instead slowed by 45% for 2.5 seconds.

Second Ability- Fiery Aura (Human)/ Dragons Rage (Dragon) Fiery Aura Effect- Shyvana surrounds her body with an aura of flame that continuously applies Blaze to nearby targets, does not deal damage. The duration of this ability is extended by .5 seconds whenever Blaze is activated. Dragons Rage- Shyvans roars her fury causing a cone of flame to erupt from her maw. Enemies caught by this ability are set ablaze for 5 seconds and take 20 / 32.5 / 45 / 57.5 / 70 (+ 20% bonus AD) physical damage every second.

Third Ability- Dragons Rush (Human)/ Dragonfire Path (Dragon) Dragons Rush Effect- Shyvana propels herself forward with the power of fire greatly increasing her movement speed and Tenacity for 3 seconds after which she will become fatigued and be slowed by 10% for 3 seconds unless Blaze is activated during the ability, activating it after the ability ends will end the slow early. Dragonfire Path Effect- Shyvana leaps forward leaving a trail of fire in her wake that slows enemies that walk on it by 10% and applies Blaze. Can go over walls. Deals Magic Damage.

Ultimate- Dragons Descent Passive- Shyvana passively gains fury while in human form, 2 fury per auto and 100 fury when the ability is first learned. Active- Shyvana transforms, diving forward while coating herself in flame. Enemies hit are carried along her path and set ablaze. While in dragon form: Shyvana loses 5 fury per second for the first 20 seconds and 15 fury every second thereafter. Activating Blaze grants 10 fury.

Final Recap As you can see I left quite a few things alone to keep the feeling of Shyvana familiar but got rid of some things that didn't make sense and added some extra utility to help her chase down her prey. I focused heavily on her passive Blaze proc as I felt like it would give her a unique identity among the vast array of melee attackers in the game. But most importantly I gave her Dragon Form it's own identity firmly moving her into the Shapeshifters category along side Nidalee, Jayce, Elise and Gnar that she has been floating around the fringes of for far too long. I mean sure, turning into a dragon is hella fancy but if your abilities don't change you will never truly be a Shapeshifter of League of Legends.

Hope you enjoyed and I would very much like to discuss you're own thoughts on what Shyvana needs. And If you wanna crap all over my rework go ahead and let me know what YOU would do different.

more bruiser/tank shyvanna and less ap fireball shyvanna? i am in!

its kinda strange how shyv was first kinda broken with rune PTA and now is with her AP fireball oneshots.

a real dragon uses spells but is also not scared of close combat and should be tanky. +1

I actually have another idea for Shyvana's passive due to the PBE, and think it's pretty cool idea, and your's works just as well. My idea is less reliant on dragon but keep it themed still towards what dragons there are. So I decided to make it based off of rift state All passives get the 20% dragon damage bonus. Because I feel that is very important to her play style. • Normal Rift: She deals an additional 10% to dragons (so 30% total) (or something better as seen) • Infernal Rift: Enemies she hits with her Q ignite taking X% of damage over 2 seconds scaling with Q levels and AD Wind Rift: Gives her X% CDR scaling off with champion levels • Ocean Rift: Something to do with healing scaling off champion levels • Earth Rift: She gains 5 AR and 5 MR scaling off of champion levels capping at 35 at level 18 (like her current if she killed all drakes outside of the PBE)

Hey all,

If we have an idea, instead of bumping an old thread, let's create a new one. Since necromancy violates the Board Universal Rules, I'm going to lock this down. Feel free to post your own ideas and concepts on a new thread.

If anyone has questions about this lock, feel free to reach out to the Moderation Team via:
