Richard, the Gatling Gunsmith
Description: The name and title are both based on the inventor of the very first gatling gun, Richard Jordan Gatling. His abilities are all based on is use of machine guns of different types. His primary weapon is of course a machine gun. Let's get into the details.
Stats: Attack - 90% Health - 35% Magic - 10% Difficulty - 30%
Attributes: Primary - Marksman Secondary - Support
Abilities: Passive - Trigger Happy Richard's basic attacks do not hinder his movement. He can still move around while attacking his target. But as he attacks, he will have reduced movement speed. (Other champions would always root themselves in place as they use their basic attacks. But Richard, he continues to move even while he's attacking.)
First Ability - Sentry Gun
Richard deploys a sentry gun that fires at whoever Richard's attacking with basic attacks. Richard gains additional attack speed as he stands next to his sentry gun. Richard can only place one sentry gun at a time (Unlike
who can deploy 3). Leaving the sentry gun's range will automatically disable it.
Second Ability - Signal Shot Richard fires his machine gun in the air, revealing enemies at a large radius around him, keeping the enemies revealed for 2 seconds. Within those 2 seconds, Richard deals additional damage and has additional attack speed only towards targets who are affected by the Signal Shot.
Third Ability - Stagger Bullets For 4 seconds, Richard's basic attacks will slow down his targets until the duration of the ability expires. Richard's Sentry Gun also applies slow effects.
Ultimate - Stationary Machine Gun Richard Deploys a Heavy Stationary Machine Gun, rooting himself in place to fire rapidly at a direction that faces towards where the cursor is placed. (It controls like Vel'koz's Life Disintegration Ray and has the same range). Enemies hit will take physical damage that stacks the longer they remain under fire. This ability lasts for 2.5 seconds or until interrupted or reactivated. Early disable will lower the cool-down. If Richard's Sentry Gun is nearby while active, the Sentry Gun will also rapidly fire at the direction of the cursor but deals half the damage. Richard can also deploy his Stationary Machine Gun on destroyed turrets (except for enemy inhibitor and nexus turrets) to have increased range.
Synergy:
-
Works Well With:
More Guns, more fire power. In team fights, Heimerdinger and Richard are gonna need all the guns they can place. It could make the perfect defense.
You need to keep very well protected if you're gonna root yourself in place. Braum can be your shield as you fire those bullets.
Bullets and Lasers. Two types of fire power bring great effectiveness in a team fight, especially if the enemy team is perfectly lined up for the fire power. -
Struggles Against:
Richard is very dependent on his basic attacks. If he's blinded, his bullets will spread and always miss. It's all thanks to Teemo's blinding darts.
Azir wants to keep his distance and lets his soldiers do all the killing. Since you can't kill his soldiers, they'll just keep poking you and your sentry gun, especially when rooting yourself in place.
Every bullet can get blown away by Yasuao's Wind Wall. Not matter how much you shoot, the bullets would only fly at a different direction.
Tips:
- Playing as Richard
Stay close to your sentry gun. You are very well protected and very effective when attacking. When traveling through the jungle, use Signal Shot in tight spaces to see over terrain. Stagger Bullets also applies as you use Stationary Machine Gun. Activate Stagger Bullets first before using Stationary Machine Gun.
- Playing against Richard
Lure Richard away from his Sentry Gun or take it down first when he's not targeting you. Sentry Gun has a long cool-down time. Richard's most effective with his basic attacks. Try blinding him. His Sentry Gun will also miss. Pin Richard down as much as possible. He can't simply place his sentry if attacks are focused on him.
Lore: Richard Gatling, the inventor of the Gatling Gun. Before his career, Valoran's use of fire arms would always have the shooter take a very long time loading one bullet to shoot again. They did manage to make use of basic flintlocks and muskets but they were not really as useful compared to bows and arrows where you could just take the arrow from your quiver and fire away. Guns, they seem like a good idea but how they are used aren't really effective enough.
Sure they eventually invented guns that don't take long to reload but it's not enough to take on distant groups alone. That's when Richard's new invention comes to play.
Richard's plan was to invent a gun that can take out multiple groups by firing bullets consecutively. After years of research and tests, he was soon able to invent the Gatling Gun. During times of war, military groups valued Richard's inventions and wanted to continue their research. Some of Richard's blueprints were even stolen. At least Richard was making a living with his career.
His work was especially valued by the scientist at Piltover. He even helped a former Screaming Yipsnake ace pilot
install a gatling gun on his machine.
Years later, Richard's inventions were getting stolen more frequently than last time. This led to Richard having to resort to using his weapons to keep thieves away from his workshop. Richard has worked too hard to not get an unfair payment for his invention. He would especially demonstrate what he'll do to thieves at the Fields of Justice.
