Champion Design: Araneolus (Another Spider Concept)
Just an idea I came up with on a google doc, here ya go:
Appearance: A gigantic meaty spider whose frontal fangs are almost as thick as it’s legs. (I would look up a picture to give a clearer example, but couldn’t bring myself to it). Hairy around most of it’s body the spider is more wide than tall with legs that don’t extend too far, relatively. It’s center just a tad smaller than the rear. It’s great muscular fangs cover the mouth. It’s webs are more about quantity than quality with no specific design except in it’s center which is a “tent”. A lighter brown color that goes to a more reddish hue around the joints and the eyes.
Splash art would showcase it in the center of its web inside of a jungle that would make the spider look more normal sized from a distance. I was thinking Helmet Bro with a torch casting a glow of light unto a huge dark figure you can make out a spider, looming over from it’s web, soft glow in it’s eyes.
Theme: Once just a great spider within a great brood which lived in a great jungle, Araneolus was nothing special. The forest of it’s home, affected by magical warfare, started to wilt and die which in turn so did the spiders. Food became a battle to the death within the brood, with the victor eating the fallen opponent. Araneolus instead left the jungle home unsure of its strength, was sure it would die to the others decided it would rather die alone. Able to find a cave massive enough to hold it, Araneolus waited to die. Just when the spider was about to go into it’s last rest, there was movement in the web. A group of treasure seekers hearing rumors of the cave became it’s meal, and not too long after another group, and more. After growing a taste for these small greedy humans, Araneolus ventured out to a world that felt smaller and became the great nomadic man eating spider.
AA range: Melee, mostly using the strength of its fangs
(Passive) Horror Webbing: Araneolus cannot use standard trinkets, instead having an item that activates a 2 second channel to spread some Horror Web. The Horror Web spreads in a circular area around Araneolus during the channel, not going through terrain. Araneolus can spread more Web but there is a maximum surface area that increases per level. Horror Web heals Araneolus for 0.5% maximum health while out of combat, and while on the Web gains Tremor Sense of enemies in the Web. Araneolus has reduced sight while outside of the Web, and everyone can see the Web, but only Araneolus can manipulate it. Does not decay over time. There can be multiple Webs but more benefit to having it connected.
(Q) Eager Hunger (45 Mana,17/15/13/11/9 seconds Cooldown): Araneolus eagerly dashes 600 units in direction of cursor, stopping on terrain. Distance increased by 200 if cast within Horror Webbing, dragging more web with it. Distance scales with bonus movement speed (I’d say 20% but units of distance is hard to get an exact figure)
(W) Venom Aura (60 mana, 12/10/9/8/7 second Cooldown): Araneolus can use some of the magic that killed it’s home, creating an aoe dot centered on it (12-60 + 15% ap x2 on monsters magic damage) for 6 seconds. If a Champion is hit by this effect for more than 4 seconds consecutively, Araneolus heals for 10% maximum health, half effect if procced multiple times, this heal can overheal, 50% effective on large and epic monsters.
(E) Horror Trap (100 mana, 28/27/26/25/24 Cooldown per charge, 1 max charge + 1 at rank 3 and 5): Araneolus places a trap in the Horror Webbing that after a 2 second delay goes invisible. If an enemy champion goes near the trap it is triggered and expires. If Araneolus is on the Horror Web of the Trap when it expires, it is instantly moved to the victim's location and automatically casts a channeled stun on target that lasts up to .75 seconds. Araneolus cannot cancel this ability once triggered but can destroy its own traps. Araneolus can use all abilities during the channel, Eager Hunger drags the target with it and Venom Aura deals 20% more damage to the target for the next 10 seconds.
(R) Anticipation for Blood (0 mana, 120/100/80 second Cooldown): Araneolus hastily spews temporary Horror Webbing in target area that lasts for 15 seconds that can be dragged (does not count for normal max limit), while this web is up, all Horror Webs grant 30% movement speed. On cast for 20 seconds this ability changes to…
(R) Taste for Blood (80 mana): Araneolus leaps to an enemy champion treating as though they activated Horror Trap (not instant travel) working the same way as Horror Trap. This ability applies on hit effects, and if the channel is not interrupted Araneolus deals 10% max health (+ 15% ap) damage on target. Cast range increased from Horror Web and also drags Horror Web.
Yes I doubt we'll see another spider anytime soon but no this is not based on Elise, a Lion does not = to a house kitten. Elise relies off of Venom and is more Human than Spider, while this is just a basic hungry beast.
