New Xerath Passive Concept

#EDIT: Ight nvm you guys are right that Xerath needs to AA for balancing purposes. I still like my idea but I get my concept isn't balanced.

#Mana Surge

##Every 20-12(based on level) seconds, when Xerath hits an ability he will regenerate 8-22(based on level) (+8% Ability Power) mana over 3 seconds. The remaining cooldown can be reduced by half once if Xerath hits another ability.

Frfr Xerath's passive feels like something that was just slapped on him to help with mana sustain in lane but it doesn't really feel part of his character. Xerath is suppose to be an ascended but not where he takes the form of an animal but pure arcane energy that had to be contained in a magical sarcophagus.

This new passive will still serve the same purpose but reward the player for actually hitting their skillshots and help Xerath to dish out more spells without going OOM.

It would have more of that feel of a Supreme Magus who is control of the arcane to its full extent.

##Take it or leave it just getting my idea out there. All numbers are obviously flexible for balancing reasons.

The reason Xerath, Lux, and Ziggs have auto attack passives is to try and provide an incentive for them to get closer to their opponents, giving the opponents more counterplay opportunities. Your change removes that incentive.

As a Xerath player, this is a very bad idea for game balance. This would break him.

As DrCyanide says, the point of long range mages having auto attack focused passives is to force interaction with the opponent so there is opportunity for counterplay.

Xerath already gets to a point where he can start completely decimating squishies with just a few basic spells, if not outright killing them. His spells are easy to land with extreme range, so he would never have to worry about running out of mana again. Take away that one weakness, and he completely dominates everything.

It's not that it was just slapped on, but he has the same issue Lissandra and old Nunu has/had: items are now designed to make mana almost as reliable as energy or lack of a resource. Every starting item gives a heap of the stuff. Compare that to season 2/3, where one of the two major starting mage items was strictly regen with no flat mana at all.

Xerath and Lissandra need new, non-mana-based passives. Just because they're blue doesn't mean they need outdated abilities.

Eh, I feel like the cooldown should be reduced to 20 - 10 seconds (based on level) and the mana changed to 5 - 25 (based on level) (+ 10% AP).

But it removes the risk involved in going by AA which is far more scary than misisng a skillshot.

Imo what Xerath needs is to get MPen on targets hit from more than one skill.
